Thorfinn calling Thorkell insane for enjoying combat was always funny to me in a tragic way because he should realize that this makes him the madman, not Thorkell. What I mean by this is that Thorkell loves to fight so he fights. That makes sense right? But Thorfinn hates to fight yet he fights. Just like his father, Thorfinn hates to fight and kill people yet that's all he does in his life and he does it just to get a chance to fight and kill one specific person. So which one really sounds like a madman here?

If you're seriously gonna say that fighting and killing people despite the fact that you hate fighting and killing people all to get a chance to fight and kill one specific person just to avenge someone who very obviously did not want you to ever fight and kill people is ''sound and logical'' you better explain your reasoning here. Otherwise, your comment is really pointless. Don't get me wrong, I sympathize with Thorfinn, he was just a kid when it happened, it makes sense for him to have been consumed by rage and madness. But he is absolutely the madman here. Not the guy who loves fighting and who's just enjoying himself by doing what he loves regardless of the consequences. That's a very normal mindset that a lot of people have. Now sure, what Thorkell loves to do seems weird by modern standards but it really isn't for the time period he lived in. Hell, you see it at the end when they march too, Thorfinn is the only warrior there who's not looking forward to the next fight, even the guy with one arm can't wait to fight again.

Thorkell the Tall is a legendary Viking of the era. The historical record of him paints a very different picture, less warmonger and more honor-bound man of high moral, but regardless he was known for his size and strength.

This is cool, I just listened to a podcast about King Alfred and the brief rundown about how everything concluded included a lot of names from characters in the show like Canute and Leif Erickson and some of Canute's family. Vinland was even mentioned. This is only about a 25% anime friendly podcast and the host was not the anime friendly one
