Yeah. Shame Vinny will probably drop it before it really gets going but as someone who's beaten the game it's probably a top 5 Mario RPG for me. It's also way more challenging than either TTYD or SMRPG. It's just a shame the beginning is slow paced cause the back half of the game is filled with so many cool moments.

About 11 hours into the game, still enjoying it. The pace is definitely slower than in previous games but I attribute that to teething issues with some of the staff of the originals not making the switch...to the switch :')

The game is DEFINITELY slower paced than the previous games (I'm about 17 hours in and still only have 2 sets of Special Moves and I have yet to even hear a whisper about Bowser), and probably isn't as good as BiS, but I have been enjoying the puzzles and humor quite a bit. The story does get a bit more interesting once the main villain group shows up, but I'm still waiting for something BIG to catch me.

I'm glad Vinny picked it up for another round. I'm about halfway through the game so far and have been having a blast. I have a few small gripes but the game does capture a lot of the Mario & Luigi vibes that I love and have missed so much. The writing is a little off but that's something that can easily be worked on in future titles. We may not have beautifully animated sprites but damn are Mario and Luigi (shoot even the monsters) beautifully animated and expressive! I've really been having a blast!

i finished the first “world” recently and the game really opened up. finally met the villains and what they’re doing. the last piece of the combat feature. great music. better more interesting writing. that first arc/world of the game is so slow and annoying until you finally get though tutorials, and story set up, and all the “busy work” it felt like. starting to like this game a lot. thankfully i don’t have much other stuff to play or am interested in playing unlike vinny who i’m also interested in seeing playing all the cool stuff he wants to play like dragon quest. i hope he will continue with this because i think he will like it more once he finished the first world & the first island or two of the second. horrible sentence to hear about a game. if it wasn’t mario and luigi and someone said “hey man keep playing, the game starts to get really good like 6 or 7 hours into it ur almost there keep going” id be pissed and want to stop playing more so i get vinny’s conundrum with keeping playing this especially rn.

Sad that Vinny is gonna drop the game so this might be the final part after all, I don't really blame him since JRPG games are a commitment of time and the game suffer from pacing issues and not very engaging dialogue with having a very slow start but it does get a good fair chunk better when you get to the good stuff later in the game and has some of the craziest moments in the M&L serie IMO. But as he has said before on the latest Echoes of Wisdom stream, he's gonna be dropping the game so it is what it is.

I know it’s a common joke to make fun of people saying this type of stuff but it really is true in this case, so much combat and story elements are introduced later on that it makes it worth getting through that slow first world.

Mario Party Jamboree looks a bit different. They really cut the playable roster down. -- The first boss of this game might have taken a bit longer to get to compared to the other games but it was a very strong first one. The enemy and boss patterns in this game are so so engaging and fun.

Another gripe i have with the game is that there's no bonus stat to add after a level up, like in the first one. The rank bonuses you get are pretty cool, but I'd still prefer adding +1/2/3 to stache by choice.

I'm really disappointed Vinny won't be beating Brothership but I almost saw it coming, though I hoped he would finish. Shame he's gonna be missing some of the really cool stuff later in the game. It's kind of a vicious cycle with how much viewers (me included) are constantly asking him to play more of the M&L games , which has made him only increasingly more reticent to actually do it. At this point he's really looking to only play the slam-dunk entries because he's more selective about long games with how much stuff is coming out to play.

I feel you don't get a decent experience until the first great lighthouse, around level 12. You can't say you played the game before then, it's like the meme of "It gets good after a certain episode". The combat makes the game, since the story is meh until maybe around the beginning of the 4th sea - At least for me. There is a mechanic you get not long after around level 13-14 which is super engaging - you get to swap around effects using battle plugs. Yeah, it keeps up with the plug & socket theme. The battle plugs are the spice of the combat, if you didn't find the combat too engaging by then this should help - I sure battled everything on my path because I liked the combat a lot more with the battle plugs. My hope is that Vinny gets to the battle plugs before considering dropping it for good, it's fun to see his reaction to the silliness. If not, it's worth playing on your own for the combat alone if you don't enjoy the story, if you have nothing to play and maybe if you get it cheaper at a later date - A must-play "baby game" in my opinion. For my scoring : 5/10 for the pacing and overall, 7/10 with most of the combat unlocked and 8/10 once you reach the 4th sea, for those who played - You know why. Spoilers....... I'm a fan of the big guy.

I know the game is called Mario and Luigi, but it could probably benefit from additional playable characters. I've only played Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario before, but those benefited greatly from having a squad you can mix and match for interesting combos and synergies. Otherwise it's been like 4 hours of basically no progression

With M&L the gameplay mostly comes from the enemies and how to dodge them I think (even if a few games had multiple playable characters). With this one a lot of the variety comes from future mechanics Vinny hasn't unlocked yet, but the gameolay is really fun probably some of the best combat in the M&L series (but it's not helped by the game really slow intro)

That is one of the biggest problems with rpgs with this kind of combat system,at the beginning you think that the qte combat it is going to be more engaging than your standard turn based affair but then you realize that the devs didn’t scale down the amount of encounters to fit better with this kind of combat so now you are trapped fighting the same enemies and watching the same unskippable animations over and over again.

I'm enjoying the game more than I thought I would, and I think it boils down to two things 1. No more of those obnoxious gimmick fights like in BiS and DT. I know people loved the giant battles, but I couldn't stand them 2. Doing away with the attack pieces and going back to just fucking giving you new bro attacks. The attack pieces were just unnecessary busy work gatekeeping new combat options I still have my issues with it though. Music is just 'ok'. The humor hasn't really done much for me. Story is whatever. And the enemies are kinda bland so far. Still, having fun with it at least.

The dialogue still seems extremely dry, generic and safe. The music still sounds very bland for Mario RPG standards. Mario still doesn't sound like Mario. Everything here looks more like a paycheck than an Alphadream game.
