I LOVE THIS WASHING MACHINE!!
This incredible SERVIS belongs to my lovely friend Richard and I have the privilege / honour of looking after it for him as he can't fit it in his mid-level, dual aspect, real wooden-floored, with a serving hatch, apartment. And his husband won't let him keep it in the lounge. I think that's unreasonable quite frankly.
Every month I like to get it out and give it a run. It's such fun to use and you can get through two wash loads in 25 minutes - what's not to love about that??
This is the first time I've ever filmed a twin tub in action so I hope I got all the shots you expect to see. I did overload the spinner the second time and had to stop to remove a fleece. Sorry Richard :(
Enjoy the video!

I have to admit, I love the good old twin tubs they’ve got character and how you have to put in the extra work instead of a front loader automatics.

I wish this the type of HE machine that manufacturers would produce. This makes sense being an HE type machine because it has dual tubs, a spray rinse in the spinner and the control by the user of how much water is used . This would therefore make the "Eco green people" content as there isn't the same amount of resources used. Also, it probably uses less water anyway even though it was made when the Eco green trend hadn't taken off in popularity.

There are so many ways this could save water, if you do a rine in the tub after you spin out the clothes the rinse water could be used for the next round of wash. I had a small twin tub and was able to throughly wash clothes with 1/3 of the detergent and roughly half the water because I could control how it was used

Yes but very water hungry though. Front loaders use the oldest washing action known to man and that is one of SUCTION. Slapping wet laundry against stones created this and as long as a front loader is NOT overloaded this is exactly what happens in them. I know as i use both to wash filthy factory overalls. Theyre ALWAYS cleaner from the front loader
@jeremynv89523
@jeremynv89523 4 жыл бұрын
@@syhooverman5418 your observations don't match my experience at all. I thought my front loader worked much less efficiently. To be fair, perhaps your front loaders work better than ours. Curiously, we never had twin tubs at all, either toploading automatics or wringer washers. The front loaders came later. (US)
@spencerwilton5831
@spencerwilton5831 4 жыл бұрын
jeremynv89523 Europe abandoned top load washers in the seventies / early eighties and they simply don't exist here anymore - few people under 40 have ever seen one. That's because front loaders wash better, damage clothes less, use less detergent, less water and less electricity. They also spin faster meaning clothes dry faster, and if dried in a dryer there is another energy saving. America is so wedded to top load machines that they have made attempts to make HE top loaders, an experiment always destined to fail because of the washing action needed of any top load machine- they fail to realise that front load are already HE by nature.
@patcola7335

We did have twin tubs in the US in the 70s. My aunt had a Hoover. Maytag also made one. Bendix in the US patented the first automatic washer which was a front loader in the late 1930's. We always had front loaders but they weren't anywhere near as popular as top load agitator washers for decades over here. I have recently switched to from load washing and while they do wash well, I find them no better than a top loader and I use both.
@jeremynv89523
@jeremynv89523 4 жыл бұрын
Spencer Wilton I respectfully disagree about front loafers washing better, but there’s an important difference-unlike European front loaders, our front loaders do not have heaters, so the hot water cycle will only work at the temperature of the tap water, which is 120F in most homes.

I remember when I was about three years old being in my neighbours kitchen while she did her washing and being absolutely fascinated by a machine just like this. My late Mother had two of these.. As a young child I'd always help her do the laundry, I remember the ticking of the wash timer control (12) minutes maximum and the lever that would start the spinner (which I was quite scared of due to it's loud wailing noise while in operation) I remember the whole machine rocking a bit at high spin and the sudden water being pumped back into the wash tub compartment, and when emptying the but, my Mother would remove the agitator and the tub would empty gradually and the gurgling noise as the last of the water was pumped from the tub. Finally, she would put the hose into a basin and the last of the remaining water would flow out into it. Great memories 😊

I remember my mother having a much earlier Servis twin-tub (the Mk. 2, I think); in the great British tradition of most machinery it leaked oil from its gearbox a lot. She had a service contract on it for as long as I can remember and it was with great reluctance that it was eventually pensioned off as mother was convinced it cleaned far better than any automatic ever could. It did live on in the coalshed for a while to wash my father's overalls in though.

The Hotpoint Supermatic of this time may have had the faster spin speed but the 3 vane "Spirolater" or "Spiroclean" was just a gimmick in my opinion. Having used both, the Servis Supertwin had the edge on the wash due to the 4 vane slower sweep agitator. I dont know why Hotpoint changed from a 4 vane agitator working in a square tub to the afore said Spirolator working in a round tub. Also its motion was TOO fast coupled with a shortness of agitator sweep.
