Vintage 1994 Hoover Turbopower U2798 Upright Vacuum Cleaner

A present from my dear friend Richard!
One of the elderly ladies he cleans for was having a clear out and this was one of the machines heading to the tip. It was saved for me :)
These cleaners were SO common back in the 1990s. I guess because they were relatively cheap and did a good job. It came with the instruction manual, warranty card and even the original receipt for £89.99!

My grandfather bought one of these for my family caravan and it's still going shop however it lives with me now and is getting the love she deserves 😊

One of the last decent vacuum cleaners to be made, mine had a 450 watt motor, now has 575 watt motor, picks everything up including all the sand my dog[s] bring home off the shore, have tried two higher power clean fan Electrolux and a Dyson, all left sand in the carpets, The humble Hoover Junior also picks up all the sand but not small stones and struggles with my Huskies fur on the carpets. Another good vacuum cleaner is the Electrolux ZA62, has very good suction for it's age

My 1992 metallic blue Turbopower 1000, bit similar to yours, won't turn on all of a sudden...wonder why? Mind you, it has never been... 'serviced!' 😎

Hi I have one of these u2798s the handle release that you use with your foot isn't working does anyone know why?

Hard to say without seeing it in person but what usually happens is the chassis wear out / break at the point where the pedal 'clips in' to the chassis

I have probably said this before but I the theese cleaners so uneserseerlly noisy and I never thought they agitated the carpet verry well at all but that's just my oppinion based on my experience I can also say that the quality was awfull too

Yes they were rather noisy, especially if the fan was damaged, or the bearings were worn, and yes they were rather brittle and easily damaged, especially as they got older - but they did agitate the carpet well though with the famous activator brushroll, that beat as it swept as it cleaned. I did prefer the Turbopower 2 over the original Turbopower 1 dirty fan models, but the original Turbopower 1 still cleaned carpets well though.

MadAboutHoovers I'm not denying that they don't clean well I'm just saying that I find that they were over rated 😊
