These kinds of taste tests should have a follow up episode, where they get the test results from a lab. It would be tested for all kinds of pathogens, toxins and heavy metals. It could also have interviews with horrified scientists/doctors who comments on the dangers of eating that stuff!

From google, old cans were often made of steel, which is a combination of iron and carbon (and possibly some other additives depending on use). So the blood taste were probably iron and possible other added elements.
