The main struggle I have with vintage fashion is related to time and selection. But recently I’ve found more and more online stores that really take care to select original pieces. As an experiment, I want to show you what a vintage capsule for Spring or Summer could look like. The online stores where I’ve found these items and many other treasures can be found on my blog. The final capsule consists of 5 tops, 3 bottoms, 3 cardigans, 2 pairs of shoes, 2 bags and a belt. When I mix all these items together I get 15 fully interchangeable outfits in a romantic-classic style.

I've been trying to only buy vintage/second hand lately. Not only is it sustainable, but I don't want to be one of the "crowd". It takes patience, and doesn't provide instant gratification. But when you do find a piece, it's very satisfying.

I love that you're going this direction! To this day, my favorite wardrobe items are the ones I found in second-hand shops.

My goal for this year was to only buy from Charity shops (second hand) or shop my wardrobe xx EDITED TO ADD It's January 2020 and the only brand new clothing items I bought last year were underwear, a pair of trainers 👟 and a handbag 👜

@@wonderwardrobe Very well, actually plus I've got my friends doing the same. I also find that having an item in mind when shopping (grey trousers, white shirt, navy cardigan) stops me from coming home with just 'anything'

I volunteer at a wildly popular hospital charity shop in my town here in the US. One thing I love about shopping in charity shops and vintage is that it's possible to shop all your favorite brands and even designer items in one place - you can put together a unique and "organic" looking wardrobe in this way. On the downside, I've found that one has to shop very carefully - sometimes volunteer staff/shop owners/managers overlook small holes and flaws in items. Furthermore, we've found that there is usually a much larger inventory of small sizes - of course, that's a reflection of what's in retail stores but it feels more extreme in our charity shop. The best stuff is small and even extra-small. Thanks Daria, love your channel

Thanks for sharing! I keep hearing people complain that they can’t find small sizes in charity shops. I guess they just aren’t looking good enough

@@wonderwardrobe I think that, in general, extreme sizes are harder to find (XS/XXS and XXL or more). It might also depend on where you live. Some areas attract more to some kind of people, therefore one is more likely to find the brands and sizes they buy than in other areas. Where I thrift I see lots of (very) small sizes but few very large sizes, and it's always the same brands.

Yeah, I've had bad surprises within my local thrift store too (in France). Let just say it is a lesson in paying more attention before buying anything.

Well done! Since two years I buy my clothes from Second hand markets. It is not only safe my money it is more a new responsibility for our lifestyle as well. To buy used clothes is for me so just in time because it is washed out of the poison chemicals, unique, and I appreciate this piece of clothes so much where a lot of people worked for it to produce it. I take care of my clothes very well - wash it softly and wear it often. Thank you so much for your great videos because you have found a interesting way to bring us your philosophy very close. I agree with you in many aspects. Your ideas are admirable . Have a nice weekend

So much work to present this and also the blog: thank you! For me, 'vintage' is often pieces I've kept from my mom, dad, and my own wardrobe, that range from 60's to 90's. I take them out of storage, and mix them in with current trends. My favourite this season is a made-in-Canada heavy cotton canvas boiler suite. Totally on trend, I just changed the 70's hemline a little to make it look more current. I've seen 'sustainable' sites charging around $600 CDN for similar.

I got gorgeous cream baby alpaca sweater with lovely knit motive in one small vintage store. It looks barely worn and seems softer and fluffier than my cashmere sweaters. I was so proud with my find. Also a pair of wide legged beige Isabel Marant cargo pants basically for free.

I bought a few vintage items on Etsy shops, but I usually buy vintage items when I have the chance to try it on in store because there's often things you're not aware of when shopping online. Sometimes the sizing is off, they can have that 'vintage smell' or the condition isn't how it seemed online. A good return policy makes up for it though :).

Yes I agree with you. I also prefer trying on the piece in the store because sizing could be tricky and of course the smell...

Lovely color scheme perfect for me...a Spring. I look for vintage pieces and am glad to see that it is becoming more fashionable. I do combine them with newer items. I was a professional woman and am retired. WHen I worked as a university administrator my uniform was suits, blazers...nice wool ones like the one you are wearing in this video, silk blouses...silk, linen or knits...cashmere. It was an investment wardrobe. I shopped sales in the late 70's through the 90's at Neiman Marcus, specialty shops, Saks, Lord & Taylor, those were the only stores I bought from. When I retired to a sailboat I donated all my lovely things to charity, I would love to have many of those things BACK. I had CHarles Joudan heels that I had had resoled three times and they looked as fine the day I donated them as the day I bought them Evening shoes (2 pr) I paid $100 each pr. USD at NM sales (originally $ 300 and $500 in the 80s) I gave to my daughter which she still has! All my silk blouses cost around $100 on sale in the 80's when that would be maybe $200 now. THey lasted 10 to 15 years and wear worn and dry cleaned over and over and lasted well. I owned several original 70s Dianne von Furstenburg silk jersey wrap dresses..I would love to have those back too. Now where I live in Latin AMerica in retirement we get US clothes shipped in in huge bundles and the items are sold very inexpensively. I have found a vintage 60's alligator bag, several silk charmuese (sp?) blouses, two wool tweed blazers, a few dresses that are vintage and in style all over again. Since I am buying at such a discount I also look for new look nicer brands here that are from end of season sales in the USA like Ann Taylor or Talbots, they tend to use decent (for modern times) fabrics

I almost exclusively shop second-hand now. Spending more than $4 on a pc of clothing really means it has to shine (if I spend $40 on one is it worth the 10 that it could replace). My favorite recent purchase was a white, heavy linen, jg hook wrap dress with paint-brush chrysanthemums in every color (pinks to grey) on it for $15. It takes a lot more time but I agree with you, the selection is so much more varied! The down-side is, you can't sit on a pc because there aren't more "in-stock" so you have to be quick about deciding.

My favorite new vintage purchase is a warm tan cardoroy jacket... Very excited for fall so I can add it to that earth toned capsule. I find the hardest thing and shopping vintage and having a minimal wardrobe is knowing what will not work with your wardrobe and being realistic about wearability. All vintage items feel special and unique and I find it harder to walk away from things that are not quite right but web shops are making it easier... You can narrow in on the right item more easily.

Thank you, Daria, for introducing me to Imparfaite. I have a very very limited budget and have been almost exclusively thrifting for the last 2 years. But there are things I can't find in my local thrift store. After a long time testing the waters I am finally understanding my style and what suit me. So I had been wanting to start and, very little by little, invest in better quality and lasting items (among other things XD)... at a reasonably low price. I also like having some vintage pieces. So Imparfaite is a good solution. I love it and found several pieces that are beautiful and totally my style. Today I received my first purchase from them. My "new" wool oversize blazer that is older than me will be perfect for Automn (and maybe even Winter). I am happy with it and plan to make another one. You understood their concept perfectly. You were right about the need to improve their navigation system. But they have been very quick to answer my question, have been very quick in managing my purchase and the packaging is indeed plastic-free AND CO2 neutral. Yay!

Love this concept ❤. If you are a budget conscious shopper, you can scour thrift stores and by spending an average of five-ten dollars each item, spend $80-160 dollars total for the 16 items pictured. A few well chosen or hand crafted accessories can really add more interest and personality to your wardrobe. TFS

Loved your video. First time I watch it. I wear mostly 1950s style clothing, sometimes 20s sometimes 40s with a touch of modern flair. I buy great quality garments mostly at thriftstores and I refashion them to fit my measurements. My last additions were, a pair of men's wool/silk trousers, a fitted wool winter jacket , an embroidered vintage sweater and two beautiful lounge robes one in silk with lace trimmings. I had to fix the belt that came with it but I only pay US $3 for it and it's long to the floor and super feminine . I also buy vintage inspired Jewlery

that's so impressing how you create such a good wardrobe just out of the vintage items! And I also appreciate your message that buying should be mindful. All the time when I go shopping I think of the item as a part of my wardrobe and think twice before just spontaneously buying something. Thank you for that!

Ah hah...I was young in the late 60's and early 70s and though I was not a "hippie" I had to work and go to college for a decade to get my doctorate...I WORE hippie clothes...bell bottom jeans I embroidered the bottoms of with wildflowers, gold velvet party pants, Asian and Hungarian embroidered peasant blouses, some velvet pieces...I would wear ALL of them again right now. I feel my MOST comfortable wearing boho and just naturally know how to put these things together. Now I lean more to suedes and some leather(skirts, jackets, vests), cowboy boots with jeans or midi or maxi skirts...big buckle vintage cowboy belts with real silver buckles (found one worth $175 just needed polishing for $4 this week at our local used clothing market. These things I did not have the money for when a student...every penny went to tuition, books, living expenses, and gas for my VW bug (used). I graduated with no college debt with a PhD in '79 and worked on campus as a secretary, then teaching assistant, then researcher and then on to my nice academic career. It all paid off for me, that decade of sacrifice...no parties, no vacations, no concerts, no money...a serious serious student. I learned to live below my income and retired on my own money (not a pension) invested in the computer stocks in the 90 at age 50. Sailed the Caribbean on our 45ft sailboat and then moved to a lovely spot in LAtin AMerica...sold the boat paid cash for our home here. Where I live, boho will always be "fashionable" because I live in a town with loads of US, Canadian and European college student tourists coming to study Spanish.

Such a beautiful summer wardrobe for warm skin ,Thank you so much for this one! So just went summer thrift shopping and im so happy found some fantastic finds to complement My existing wardrobe - and im releasing some items back to the thriftstore which no longer suit My body shape so win win someone else are going to get some really nice summer clothes and so am I ! So what did I get , well ive been looking for for some time for a belt preferably in brown which creates a w shape higher at the hips lower at the front , Very hard to find especially in leather in modern stores and Yes! Score ! 59 kr roughly 5 euro , then a pair of perfect medium varm Brown strappy sandals Jupp you guessed it 5 euro, then ive been looking for a sheer flowery blouse with a v neck possible for some time and found one which has a tall neck with a bow and a keyhole decoltage which can be worn open or closed at the top as well as with sleeves which you can Change around in a darker green base with yellow, oranges , deep red and Brown in it somewhere between Classic winter and summer floral roughly 7 euro - perfect for My wardrobe! Can be worn under dresses, as a blouse on its own, with jackets and cardigans with leather, linen, corderoy but also jeans or over a dress or as a schal around the waist, shoulders or head because its so light! Linen jacket in cremebeige with green leaves and an abstrakt beige and Brown pattern which can be used as a jacket or blouse also 5 euro and finally a Fantastic Italian trench in a colour between beige grey and Brown which We call potato coloured with a colour in a perfect muted green When you fold it up and the best its lined with a warming lining so Now I have a trench for warm days in cream and this one for cold summer days - purfect ! I am a vintage shopper in the UK and I like shopping in 'beyond retro' and 'rokit' stores...I get inspired walking in and seeing racks of our history. Glitters of the 70s and 80s and sun dresses of the 60s. jumpers and trouser of the 40s and of course beaded dresses of th 20s that never fit me......With vintage ....one must be more specific about their likes and style I can go to many stores and only leave with 1 or 2 things, so no fast fashion overspending on things I won't wear, everything is something specific to my style and likes.I spend an hour in each one going through blouses and jumpers , checking patterns, cuts and labels. I am an 80s fan... so I do wear 80s clothes with modern Jean's and jackets from second hand stores . I bought an 80s nautical colourful top, shoulder padded for spring/ summer recently and look forward to wearing it in August.😍

Hi Daria, this was great:) I really love these two raw silk blouses I bought for a bargain in yellow and terra cota color, but they are slightly large and have short sleeves that reach my elbows. How would you suggest I style them ? Or even if you have and idea how it would be cool to flip them? BTW I love your outfit boards, they are very pretty looking but I feel as though they are a bit misrepresented, I would love to see them on a person, otherwise the looks are “too” pretty if it sounds logical. Great video and thanks !

Sew a casing and put elastic in the sleeves of one of the blouses. With the other you could make cuffs. To make the blouses slightly smaller, you can take in the sides a little or create long darts in front and back. Or you could just add a casing around the waist and run elastic through it. That would be cute with the gathered sleeves. The long darts would fit well with the cuffed sleeves.

But it is also possible to find well fitting clothes, if you try hard enough :) I have a list of online vintage shops here: wonder-wardrobe.com/blog/vintage And here’s the list for petite: wonder-wardrobe.com/blog/petite-brands

I noticed the prices were quite high. Would be nice if you showed how much each item cost and what is the total. Otherwise nice job!

Yes, the prices were slightly higher than what you could find in the physical shop. I guess that’s because they have extra expenses like taking photos of the items, uploading them to the website, make sure the measurements are there.., all these little things... But I wanted to mention the budget and forgot! so most of the items were around €29 - €49, the total budget for all the 15 items was around €500. Not bad considering that it can be worn at least for the next 5 years.
