1966 deer camp in Venango County, Pennsylvania. When the lever actions with iron sights ruled and the 30-30 was King. I learned how to hunt deer, butcher deer, play poker, and drink whiskey. Yes Sir, 16 years old and deer camp on my way to being a man. Three years later I was drafted and life.

There seemed to be a lot of deer in the 70's but they were mostly doe. Then in the 2000's there was a definite decline for about 12 years. I attribute a lot of that to a certain large group of people that were rumored to not following the game laws in our area. They would shoot anything anytime (they drive buggies pulled by horses). Now the deer seem to be coming back now. PA antler restrictions have helped and you see bigger deer now. But the bigger bucks seem to have gone nocturnal. Game cameras verify this. The buck to doe ratio has improved significantly.
