Vintage Delta 1426 12" Disk Sander Restoration

I picked up a Delta 1426 12" disk sander for a very good price. The motor runs well but the machine has been very neglected. This is part 1 of what will be a series on this restore.

it sounds great for its age.. one thing you might do is check out the runout on the plate once youve got it all degunked.. here's one i found restored: vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=7070 for the radius of that curve.. its a formula: www.mathopenref.com/arcradius.html

Think I would just measure the length of the flat and the thickness of the arc and let AutoCad tell me the radius...I'm lazy like that.. lol Good find on the sander...should clean up fine

Ya only if I had autocad and knew how to use it. I was a draughtsman many years ago, all manual, and I still do most drawings by hand. I think I'll just do the manual math to figure it out. I have a feeling I need the Wizard to help me out on this one, Tom???? You watching?

Do a few measures and send them along. See what I come up with and compare to the Wiz of OX. ;-)

Hi Steve, I hit the sub button, I have been to your channel before. Nice disc sander and should be a fun project, when I built the trunion for my buddy I put the part in the photocopier, you get a scale photo copy that now you can draw on and measure. Looking forward to your progress on this nice machine ATB Chuck

I have the same 12" disk sander but my motor might be shot. Any ideas on the best motor replacement?

I would take the motor into a motor shop and get it repaired if that's feasible. Otherwise any motor with the proper sized shaft should work, you might need to block it up a bit since the original motor is so big and most others would be much smaller..
