Oh my! What memories! I cleaned my house as a child, many times with this. We had several models throughout the years. Back then, the salesmen came to your door to demonstrate and the demonstrations were amazing to us then. I have searched for years another Electrolux. NO company ever made a better vacuum! A repair man told me many years ago that they were made so that anything pulled into them that should not be, would bypass the motor. He said no other brand could do this.

In 1963 as a kid recently out of high school, I was working as a door to door salesman for Electrolux. The "R" and the "G" models were what we were offering at that time. I still remember one of the sales guys removing the front cover from an "R" model which was not hinged and didn't have the auto shut-off, turning it on and putting it up against a woman's ceiling. He then let go of it and it remained right where he put it. He then asked the woman, How's that for suction. Her five year old son looked at the salesman and said, If that's how you're supposed to vacuum the ceiling I don't think we can use it. You can leave now. I still have an old Olympia One (1978-1982) for our own use. Just the other day one of our neighbors who's moving, threw out Model "F" (1957-1961) which I retrieved from the trash. I works great and I think that sucker could lift the carpet right off of the floor, if you're not careful. Great old vacuum cleaners.

Those woven hoses are notorious for leaking air. They do have a fair amount of power with a vinyl hose but if you take the inside of a woven hose out and pour plasti dip inside and coat the interior of the hose then leave it to dry it will reseal the interior and make it air tight.

My mother always had an Elextrolux. I would say it is 1950's to very early 1960s. The vacum she had when I was small was made in 1937 to about 1950 and was on runners. very powerful vacuums. Latest models even better. I think the first hose was the original and then you received a newer hose with it. Newer models have heppa filters included.

I have been vacuuming with these Electrolux vacuums since I was a child. My grandfather had a cleaning business and these were all we used the models from the the 1940s and this model produced in the 1960s. Yes every spring we treated our wool rugs for moths with that attachment. The metal with the brush on the end is the same as the replacement plastic one you attached at the top I have several as well my favorite tool I use it to vacuum wood stairs cobb webs and corners. Aerius owns Electrolux now and makes the bags they can be ordered in large quantities I can check exactly where I purchased. These originally had cloth bags that you had to empty and then I would take it outside and beat it against a tree.

Hi, I just bought one of these vacuums and I'm trying to clean and restore it. I cleaned up the outside pretty thoroughly and a little of the inside. I'm wondering though if I should clean the motor? How hard is it to get to the motor/fan? The vacuum is running pretty good with very STRONG suction, but I'm just wondering if it would benefit from cleaning the motor from dust, carbon soot, etc? I really want to thoroughly clean and restore the vacuum, but I'm kind of hesitant to completely disassemble it since it's working well. I wish I could find diagrams or a repair manual somewhere!

In any case, if you want to simulate a full bag, what's wrong with simply blocking the end of the vacuum pipe? I mean, you've done it already a couple of times with your hand. > EDIT: Wow! I eat my words. Blocking up the pipe would likely not work to "pop" open the door. What an ingenious design. I am most impressed (which is very rare indeed.) *_WOW!_* Just: *_WOW !_* >

(36:24) - There's actually very little chrome on that vacuum cleaner. That spring tab is chrome-plated because it's made of steel and would rust if left untreated. Almost all of the remaining metal is cast aluminium / zinc alloy which accounts for the silky sheen rather than a bright shine. A lovely, well produced video which provoked many a nostalgic memory of my sixties childhood. My father was in the Merchant Navy and he brought back the exact same machine from New York some time in the mid sixties, much to the delight of my mother. To test the hose for air leaks, fill a spray bottle with clean dish water and spray the outside of the hose. Insert the coupler into the exhaust port, cover the hose grip end with your hand, and turn on the cleaner. Bubbles will reveal leaks. Also, a couple other ways to remove clogs are to use a long wooden dowel to dislodge any foreign matter and to take it to a auto repair shop and request a tech to blow out the hose with the air hose. Btw, your hose is from the later gray cleaner era in the 1980s--including the Silverado 1505 or Deluxe Special 1453. Further, only the combo floor tool is original to the Model G. The metal ones (and the carton) were originally sold during the Model XXX era of the 30s-50s; and the ivory dusting/upholstery tool's original would have had the teal-green flaps (like the bumper on the combo tool).

Besides the filter bags, Electrolux counted on selling customers replacement hoses; which is why they were of second-rate quality. You can reseal it by removing the hose grip and using a liquid rubber product to recoat the inside. Doing so correctly will improve the suction to at least 90% of the original.

@Performance reviews I have watched your videos for some time. I collect old Electroluxes. I use my 1950 Electrolux XXX with it's original attachments every day. It is wonderful, I got a new handle, filter, bag, and hose and the suction is surpisingly strong. I serviced the original motor, and I would say compared to my 1980's Olympia two, it is only slightly weaker. Also, really quiet.
@LlyleHunter6 жыл бұрын
The cord rewind needs to be lubricated and it needs a tweaking of its adjustment screw but just slightly. There will be a sizable increase in suction with a new hose. I hope that Sam buys an electrified pigtail hose and eventually a powernozzle with original wand for the powernozzle. It can be a great quiet machine.

I am sorry to correct you. The Model G was made from 1961 to 1968 and they were all TEAL in color. Only the refurbish machines were different colors. They only did the refurbish machines till they moved for CT to VA. The Model G was the best machine they ever made. It had more power and the motor was built to last many lifetimes. I know all this because I worked for Electrolux close to 40 years and yes I was around when this machine was made. My grandmother purchased one and it was the second Electrolux she ever purchased. She kept her old Model 30 which she purchased somewhere around 1942 just before things shut down for WWII.

@@wessmith7408 Ok. Something more to look into. Must have gotten my info mixed up. Anyway. I have what I think is a pretty nice teal colored Model G. I remember Mom having a Model G, while we were growing up. When the front popped open, it was time to clean the carpeted steps! It has the PN plug on the front and the tear drop cord/plug protector. I have the light colored power nozzle with the attached long, plastic wand and the one piece, long power nozzle cord. It is hard wired into the power nozzle and continues all the way to the front socket, on the machine. I have been gathering parts to allow the cord to connect/disconnect at the hose handle, as it would better facilitate the use of the other attachments. I use my Model G regularly. Is the large carpet cleaner/floor cleaner canister attachment worth getting and using?
@wessmith74083 жыл бұрын
@@jason60chev Sorry it took me this long to respond. I gather you do not have a power head for your machine. I had a Model G till I moved into my apartment about 4 years ago. I did have an up graded power nozzle called a PN 4. I also had updated the hose to a vinyl with the cord for the PN built into the hose. I had a 8 room home with almost all carpet. It was funny because the Kirby people knocked on my door and offered to do a demo. I asked if I could schedule it several days later. I vacuumed my regular way and shampooed my carpet with an Electrolux shampooer attachment that the suction on my Model G powered. When the carpet was dry I vacuumed. The day I knew the Kirby people were coming back I vacuumed that afternoon. I had a pile carpet about 1/2 inch thick. They came to demonstrate a G-4 Kirby. They vacuumed in the middle of my living room and the best they could do was suck up a small amount of nap. They moved to the traffic area from the front door. There they managed to get a little dirt. I offered we move to my den. The end result was I showed up the Kirby. So MY ANSWER WOULD BE TO LOOK for a power head for your Model G. My new apartment only has 4 rooms and the bath. I decided that having an upright would be easier to use. Since I have worked with vacuums over 40 years I purchased off of Ebay a Kirby D50 (the D-80 is the same machine just different color) with all the attachments. I again bought the best Kirby ever made. It is smaller and serves my needs well. I live in Central VA and we are famous for our red clay. Since my apartment doesn't open to the yard and we have a paved parking lot with sidewalks, I don't get the dirt I use to have from the yard. In the vacuum industry and when I was selling there were only 5 vacuums that was worth a damn. Electrolux, Kirby, Compact, Filter Queen and Rainbow (Rainbow the last choice). If you want to up grade your Electrolux let me know and I will do some research on Ebay for you and send the links. WES

@@wessmith7408 I have a power nozzle for my Model G. It is the light colored plastic wand, light colored nozzle with the turquoise band. It and the machine work well. The plug is at the front of the machine. The power nozzle cord is one CONTINUOUS cord, which makes it a pain to remove the wand and use an attachment for the sofa or chair. Congrats! Electrolux Corporation, the U.S. affiliate of the Swedish company until 1968, introduced the Model G (code for 'gentle' because of its quiet main motor output, was launched in January 1961. The color was changed from "aquamarine green", the color's official name, to "tan" in late 1966 when the motor was upgraded with more rpms. A hospital version in white was also available. It included a muffler-filter attached on the cord reel. The G-line was discontinued in 1968. It was the company's first vacuum cleaner that featured an integrated cord reel and rubber-covered rear wheels. The original power nozzle was the model PN-1, that had been introduced in 1959. The other optional auxiliary item was the Turbotool (succeeded by the Rug Washer) , made for shampooing rugs, stairs, and other small areas. Thanks for posting.
