Wow! What a beautiful idea- using your own shed hair for volume. Thank you so much for sharing this and for not being weird about it. I've been sad to have to throw away my hair that collects in my brush and this makes me happy again. xx

Solitaire ❤️ thank you for not being weird about it too 🤗 people are normally grossed out by their own hair but it’s much better than using the “hair rats” on amazon that are plastic and one size. I’ve found it is the best way to help me with all styles and I’m so glad you’re going to try it ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Haven’t even watched the whole thing yet, but my god, THANK YOU. I’ll be real, I really don’t know jack about hairstyling (I don’t even know how to braid). I love some of the 30’s and 40’s styles, and I’ve been wanting to try one on myself for quite some time! Seeing all these other “easy” tutorials where people just flawlessly apply all these unsaid techniques left me in absolute frustration; not to mention, my hair is super fine, straight, and hard to work with. I know it sounds ridiculous, but just understanding how to do a finger roll has greatly improved my confidence and will to go further. People like me need more of these seemingly obvious and simple tips!!!

They were called night jackets! Grandma ALWAYS wore them! They didn't have central air heaters back then. At night the fire would go out and it could get horribly cold! My grandma was a hair dresser. At night she would ALWAYS use 2 Bobby pins on each curl when making pin curls, crossed over into an X. 2 pins makes for a much tighter curl. Setting lotion works MUCH better than moose! It's available at any beauty store. It also drys faster then setting with water or damp hair.

Love your ease with pin curls. I do want to try them for future Dapper days at Disney. I esp love the half up, half down at 12:25. Love that and use at "rat" hairs... didn't know there was such a thing. 😅😊

I had watched a video a while back where a woman with super fine hair (like mine) did the same thing but with cheap hair that comes in packs at Walmart. She would make somewhat flattened balls of it & put as much as she wanted into knee highs & tie it off. She would then pin it with bobby pins. That way, she could get as big of a 'bump' to add to her hair-do as she wanted :) Being that the hair was in pantyhose, it is easy to wash too.

In this video I'm wearing vintage. So just the thrift store and vintage shops. I know... it's the worst answer when you want to find the same thing but that's the best thing about vintage, they are normally one of a kind. Their are some cool facebook groups that sell vintage and it's at much better prices

Love the technique! How are you securing the curl??? Is it bobby pins??
@LiveCollegiateShag5 жыл бұрын
Yes I try to use just one bobby pin per curl and then I come back after and add more if I feel any aren't secure. The more you put in, the more they stay because you're slightly overlapping them :) hope this helps.

In her older years, my grandmother had short hair and still pinned it. If you can twist a curl, you can pin it.

ahhh!!! those bldy, pincers, my hair just slips out of between my fingers, I can't even get 1 turn of 2 fingers 😫, maybe if I wait until my hair is a little dirtier, had it baliaged 2day, super soft, having been washed several times with quality salon shampoo instead of tacky supermarket brands. practice, perseverance, frustration, grubby hair, mind u i didn't have any mousse or product to put on first, mite try the cheats way and use hairspray for stickability to fingers, then try rolling it, after all they didn't have mousse back in da 40's
@LiveCollegiateShag4 жыл бұрын
I know it seems hard with slippery hair but you can do it (It really shouldn't make a difference how slippery your hair is - though it might make it harder to learn :) My fingers slip sometimes too, you just have to move through the actions at the right speed to make it work. Pinch the end of your hair with one hand, place your other finger and when you start moving the pinched hair, let it start slipping through your fingers right before it hits the "tightly pinched hair". The idea is to trap the end before you roll up. It takes a lot of practice but you'll get it :) promise. xoxo
