One of my favourite rc cars,this is the best one I've ever seen. Fantastic job and really enjoyed watching it come together.

Hey Mate, love your videos. You got some painting skills. Love the commentary, it's like your talking to me. Just got an original Optima can't wait to get into it.

Thanks mate. Awesome that you got one, gotta love the Optimas. I could never afford one in the 80's but just had to have one eventually. Good luck with your Optima resto! 👍

Do you use the score and snap technique or scissors? Notice the body cuts are really good.
@RCHobbyShed4 жыл бұрын
I use a combination of both ways. I usually cut the long lines with scissors and use the score and snap method around shock tower cutouts and wheel openings. I usually sand up the edges too, with some sand paper wrapped around a file.

Awesome job! Did you use the Marwan replica decals or are these originals?
@RCHobbyShed4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! These decals are actually from MCI Racing in Canada. 👍

Hi mick, video long since finished. I notice on this build your driver head was inbuilt in the lexan, yet the turbo optima one was a standalone head u attach with a screw. Any idea why I got the screw on head -that I’m happy with- with my optima, bought mid 2022. Maybe they ran out of lexan head sets 🤔? 🤷🏻♂️

G'day Graeme! The original Optima, Javelin and Turbo Optima all had the fully moulded Lexan driver. I assume in the rereleases they figured they'd go with the two piece type. I guess they decided to go with the screw on head in the later models to make it a little more detailed, or just easier to paint. 😂🤷♂

That turned out really nice, I like box art style number 5 too, looks so much better than the 5 on the kit decal sheet. I was never sure how use the pin striping tape, is it supposed to be used on the inside or outside? How did you go about making the mounting holes?
@RCHobbyShed5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It turned out better than I thought it was going to. I actually used a rere number 5 on the front because it's wider than the MCI decals I have (which are on the sides) and I'd painted the black area too wide. In the old days I'm pretty sure the Kyosho Microline tape went on the outside, but I know some people use it under the paint on the inside. I cut the mounting holes out with a hobby knife. The rear ones is ok, but the front is too big as the body had 3 markings for the mount, each mark about 1-2mm from the other. Kinda of weird but it worked out ok. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍

@@RCHobbyShed A few weeks ago I saw some rectangular hole puch's on ebay, if you could find the right size punch it could be a good alternative for the mounting holes, assuming they'd work OK on polycarbonate. I had an Optima body professionally painted in the box art scheme a few years ago and don't wanna mess up the body holes.

@@keithrx3c I'm not sure I'd get enough use out of one. I guess if they're cheap enough it would be good to have in the toolbox. I'll keep an eye out for one! 👍
