Well , I’ve tried the shave cream , it didn’t smell like Old Spice. But, I’m with you Mark on feeling a burn. Wearing my mask all day burns my face and caused a rash. Had to change shave soap to a sensitive skin formulation to offset discomfort.

Ooh. I feel for you Prentiss, the rash and discomfort from wearing a mask must make shaving problematic before you even start. This is going to sound weird utility have you tried wearing... I can't think of the name. White tub, red writing. It's a barrier cream that is used for nappy rash, and a whole lot of things. It's very good. It may just ease the rash and discomfort caused by the mask.

I had a similar reaction to the Old Spice cream, hot and Itchy feeling with quite a drying affect on the skin post-shave. Lucky to fall back to the classic vintage, that mug is a beauty.

That caught me slightly unawares, it was okay at first but when the burn started it really came on. It was rather a shame as I was really looking forward to that shave. Strange, how these soap only burn some of us.

Hi Mark.Where is the best place to get the blades for this razor ? Preferably UK based to avoid the dreaded customs charge. Great to see vintage razor videos.
@FriendshipShaving4 жыл бұрын
I think most shaving 'shops' sell the Gem/Personna blades, that you'll need. Connaught Shaving certainly do and they'll fit all vintage Gem, Ever Ready razors. I have some Treet blades made by the American Safety Razor Company but I'm beginning to think they might be vintage. They are really nice!

My *Mikes Natural* and Tobs St James Shave Stick arrived a few days ago. Also got Nivea maximum hydration AfterShave balm. This is my first time using all these products and I’ve been wanting to try mikes barbershop for a long ass time and happy I finally own one. I have samples of both st James and jermyn street and decided to get the st James. I’ve also been wanting to try Nivea aftershave balm’s for a while too but every time I went to CVS Rite Aid or Walgreens they either never had it in stock or couldn’t find it. But it definitely put so much hydration and moisture back into my skin leaving it soft and shiny looking !!! I’m going to use Mikes natural barbershop in my next Shave 💈😁✌🏻💈

Aho Mark from across the pond. Hope you are well Kola. Nice video as always. You gotta be careful buying soap products from India… some may be okay, but I haven’t had good luck with the few soaps I’ve gotten from Indian. Growing up in Meysey Hampton, my partner always purchased Lifebuoy Bath soap, because it was the most available at RAF Fairford’s Commissary. We used to by large clear plastic bags with about 20 bars in it. I personally loved the soup, and thought is color quite appealing. When we moved back to South Dakota, it became available at the Ellsworth AFB Commissary… the same large bags… may have be shipped that way for military personnel? I was a happy boy. We moved East to New Jersey in the 1970s, and the Original Lifebuoy Bath Soap was no longer available, but Lever USA made their own version, which was the same carbolic soap only sweeter. I prefer the original but I was happy with this. Then in the 1990s lever stopped producing it. I had to purchase a case of 72 bars but the shipping was just a few dollars and they gave me a reduced price on the case. It worked out to roughly one US Dollar per bar… slightly more. We use it primarily for washing our hands because it’s an antiseptic soap and I occasionally shower with it… a few times each month. I managed to purchase some Lifebuoy Bath Soap from England, but the shipping was very expensive. And one day, I found Lifebuoy Bath Soap on eBay at a good price and shipping was very reason. So I purchased 10 bars. When I got it it said that it was made in India. Straight away it did not smell like the original Lifebuoy Bath Soap, but thought I would give it a try. When I was done with my shower I smelled like I showered with some sort of Medical/Cleaning solution, and my skin got so dried, irritated and itchy it drove me insane. Afterwards it started burning and I developed a nasty rash. The rest of that soup properly was put into the trash bin. Fortunately I got in touch with the gentleman in London who ran the Campany, and he referred me to a distributor in New York who sold the original life boy soap from England. As for Old Spice, here the have two versions, and it’s quite confusing… one is Classic, the other is Original. Some confuse Classic with Original and the smell very different. Be sure it’s the “Original” scent if you ever get some. Online it’s easy to fine, but in the story the push the new Classic Scent… and I honestly don’t find anything “classic” about it. Best wishes, George Silver Hawk

Hi George, this is quite a story. We also used Pears as kids, I think mam just bought what was cheap, as well as Lifebouy. Pears had a particular scent; my Uncle has used it for decades. I bought some recently from a reputable supermarket, but the soap is now made in India, with different ingredients. The scent, upon opening the bar, was so strong that it triggered an asthma attack. It wasn't a nice scent, certainly not what I remember. It was very harsh and it went in the bin, unused. With Old Spice, if it says Shulton, I'll buy it, if not it's had it.😄 All the best.

Hi Mark 😀 I had the same face burn sensation with a modern Old Spice tube, thought maybe it was just me as it seems a popular cream by Procter & Gamble. That's a fantastic idea of blending a balm and aftershave splash in your hand!! Like a home made Nivea 2 phase but much more options; I'll definitely do this with my Tabac splash, it is very strongly scented. I would be interested in your thoughts on how the original Old Spice performs compared to the Tabac in terms of slickness and texture. Take care 😀👍
@FriendshipShaving4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad I'm not the only one 😃 It happens doesn't it. I've had it happen with Artisan soaps. It raises interesting questions about whether it is possible to make a soap that is non reactive to absolutely everybody. I think mixing the two would work well for Tabac. I'd like to get some but, as I shave in the early evening, I'd just be stinking out the lounge room! I think vintage OS and Tabac are both excellent quality. Having only used them a few times, I think Tabac beats the OS. The cushion and post shave slickness is something else. But, they are both very good imo 😊
@JoyShaving4 жыл бұрын
Nice Shave Mark , enjoyed watching , these old spice shaving creams are getting discontinued as per my communication with P&G , the aftershaves and other OS products will continue. There are two more variants, Musk and Fresh Lime, some people like the Musk variant more than the Original and Fresh Lime. Cheers!
@FriendshipShaving4 жыл бұрын
Hello Joy. It is interesting that the Old Spice getting discontinued. Perhaps they are not selling well. I'm sure if P&G bought out the original soap and splash, it would sell well. I notice at Old Spice.com they do not sell shaving items. That seems very strange.

This is a FIRST! I've seen KZbin Wet Shavers pause a video to swap a Blade. I've seen KZbin Wet Shavers pause a video to swap a Razor. I have NEVER seen a KZbin Wt Shaver pause a video to swamp a Soap. :D I guess that proves the adage "there's a first time for everything"... ;-) But, you had to do what you had to do.. ;-) I have a nickel plated Micromatic and a Micromatic Clog Pruf. There is one more version with "wings" that I want to complete the Set.

A man's got to do what a man's got to do 😃 That burn was really kicking in. I'm not brave. Ron's post is very interesting about the bump less Micromatic. Mine has the bumps so would have fitted the Gem de blade. I've always wondered why it's called the flying wing. I've seen that with a Chrome bullet tip but also an early plastic bullet tip, like the Merkur Progress.

I did laugh out loud when you lathered your glasses!🤣 I used the Tabac I ordered last week. It gave a very good shave I must say. 👍 But, I was a little disappointed by the scent. I expected the usual Tabac experience, but all I can smell is, um, soap -and a very potent scent at that. 😕 Sill, a good buy though and you do get a good amount.
