Good video humor helps so many things. Hope that old poulan gets revived. Have a good week.

If I can get spark, I will be able to save the old saw. Poulans mid size and larger saws did not sell well in the PNW, and other than the small 25 series saws I have, it is the only Poulan in my collection. Never see them at swap meets, auctions etc. Humor is good . Thanks for watching and your nice comments.

Here is an interesting thought. If you had to bring with you a saw to whittle a civilization out of nothing, What saw design would be the hands down best choice?
@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea91563 жыл бұрын
If you are talking power saws that have been made, I would say that the McCulloch 10 series and some Pro Mac series, would be my choice. Easy to work on, just about indestructible, powerful, reliable, just straight out simple but outstanding designs. Some Pioneers would also fit in this catagory.
@johnnorman77083 жыл бұрын
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 I figured it would be only a few of the older models that had proven their worth over decades of service. Funny that you should mention Pioneer. They had the name correct.

Poulan made good equipment way back when. No better and no worse than brand H or M. But it's true that in the 60s and early 70s Homelite had some designs that sawyers really liked. If you can't beat them copy them.
@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea91563 жыл бұрын
Poulan made some very good saws over the years, but when they wanted to compete in the user saw market, they copied the XL Homelite design, like so many others. This saved them all the engineering costs, and knew it would be a good useable saw, since the Xl,s were such good saws.

Love it mr obsolete!!! I own a few stihls and I can see them charging $52 bucks for a computerized spark plugs. It's nuts. I recall a zoology teacher in high school making fun of those people who said warshinton instead of washington. Same people would call Illinois , Illanoise.... But I think my dear old dad tops that with the sediment bowl on his old tractors... He calls the sediment bowl an acetylene bowl. I still don't know where that comes from. I recall as a know nothing kid, him sending me to farm supply store for acetylene bowl and the people would look at me like I was from Illanoise or someplace
@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea91563 жыл бұрын
The $52 plug was just a joke. The sediment bowl was also called a settling bowl, as the debris and water would settle in the bottom of the bowl, and the piece of equipment would still operate.

Po-lan, like the country, Poland, is the correct pronunciation. Wall- bro is the correct pronunciation. Steal is the correct pronunciation for Stihl. Some parts for Stihl saws are a lot cheaper at a Stihl dealer than on EBay.

When I used to repair saws for customers, I was always shocked at the prices for major components on Stihl, and Husky,s compared to other brands of saws.

How many saws do you have?

It,s a secret ! Not actually that many. I would have to go find them and count them to give you an accurate assessment.

If you want to know the correct pronunciation of "Husqvarna," watch Swedish Homestead. It's "Hoosk-a-varna."

Those Still saws are kinda pricey. And in grand Teutonic style are becoming too sophisticated for what the tool is and is used for. I never did gravitate to them even though we owe that company a debt of historic gratitude of sorts for bringing us the concept. A spark plug that costs more than $2.00 irritates me. I was buying Autolites for 99 cents each only a couple of decades ago....
@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea91563 жыл бұрын
After working on a large variety of saws, I find the Stihl,s hard to work on and have some very strange engineering, First doesnt always mean best. I am no fan of Husky,s either. The EPA has caused most of the problems with the new saws and power equipment, trying to make them meet emission standards that are nearly unobtainable. The $52 spark plug is just a joke. I have used all types and brands of spark plugs in my professional career, and the two best are NGK and Denso.
@johnnorman77083 жыл бұрын
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 You got me with the $52.00 spark plug. Seriously I wouldn't put it past some companies to pull a stunt like that. We are in an era where engineering just for the sake of a tiny improvement isn't uncommon. And yes EPA emissions stickers on new saws and small engines sound ridiculous. They are only certified to meet the requirements for 40 or 50 hours. That's just a wasted effort really.

No there were no quality control issues with those top handle poulan saws those were professional grade saws. Those were made long before poulan went down the tube. Youre talking shit about one of the most popular high quality saws poulan made. Trust me im a big time poulan collector. Poulan didnt go down the tubes until the early 2000s. The poulan micro/1800/2000/2300 were every bit a professional grade top handle saw.

It is nice to have an opinion, even when it is wrong. The 25 series were not a pro saw, as they were so cheaply made. Here is a perfect example. The real low end saws had a bushing for a bearing in the clutch, and the clutch was very small and would over heat and chatter after a short time of use. No professional saw would use a bushing clutch. They run hot and vapor lock in warm weather, no pro saws do that. They are excessively loud, and vibrate a lot, no pro saw would do that. These saws were designed for casual use by home owners, not arborists. These saws are the ones I am talking about. The saws you list in your comment, are saws I have never seen or used, so I think we are comparing oranges to apples. The 25 series were made in the Beard-Poulan timeframe. The larger saws in this era were very good saws.
@williambray41349 ай бұрын
I wouldn't call Micros professional grade. They're decent little saws, in-line with the Mini Macs, and Super-2. The S-25 is a vastly better saw in every way. The Mini Macs are strong runners if you get a good one out of the box, and will likely last a lifetime of occasional use with ease. You're better off tossing one in the trash if it has problems out of the box because it's never gonna be right now matter how much time you try to fix it.
