We've been away from our vintage RV long enough! So we're flying back out to California to resume our RV road trip. But before we do that, we have to make sure, once again, that Clementine and Ruby are both ready for the journey.

Pro tip: When flying to LA, fly into Bob Hope rather than LAX. It's right in Burbank. So, even if you need to get an Uber, it's going to be a short drive. Plus, Bob Hope is super chill. And almost never crowded.

Here's how I keep rodents out of my garage -- I use Irish spring soap bars. They say original works but I've used whatever was available. so next time you have to park Clementine maybe use 10 Irish spring bars throughout. Honestly, it really works -- they hate the smell.

Tip at LAX - walk to the in and out nearby and then call an Uber. The cost will drop significantly once you leave the airport!

Tip for LAX, take the free shuttle to the hotel closest to your hotel. Alamo rental car (free shuttle) has good prices, good cars, and they’re usually open 24hrs.

It’s hot here in California. Come get her and head to the north coast. Bodega Bay, Mendocino, Caspar, Fort Bragg (go see glass beach first thing in the morning!), Westport, Avenue of the Giants (amazing drive through the redwoods)…. It’s gorgeous up there!

GL. Glad you found the brake issues with Clementine before they became a bigger issue. You lucked out. Also, be sure to check the oil level at fill-ups on both vehicles, especially with the newer motor on Clementine

If you get Uber at LAX, just walk down out of the airport and prices are normal again. You can walk to one of the nearby hotels. I used to live right by that hotel and it would be like $15.

FOR RODENTS fill old aspirin or whatever bottle with cotton balls and add peppermint/spearmint essential oil. Can also be used in spray bottle to cover engine bay. 🥬🥬🥬🐭🐭🐭☠☠☠

I do worry sometimes about mechanics you don't know upselling you on stuff you don't actually need done... I hope the swindling is kept to a minimum! Like when you go in for a fast oil change at a Jiffylube or something and they suddenly "find" an issue with your coolant. Like, why were they even looking there, that's not the oil.

And then when we visited again with my husband and kid to Palm Springs/Joshua Tree, that Bear Mountain all over the 210!!! hahahaha and then to get to Hacienda somewhere on the 405 ... GPS became my best friend again!

Bounce regular dryer sheets will keep mice out , we use them in classic cars to keep mice out while vehicles sit for the winter

Another good thing for deterring vermin is ground pepper in places where they can get into the vehicle (in the air filter) along the bottom of the windscreen (wind shield) around the grill area of the wiper blades they absolutely hate it

Let us know how the rat packs worked when you get back. At my daughter’s everyone leaves their hoods up. My husband didn’t want to do that, so we had cotton balls soaked in mint essential oil in areas around the car and in the car, we carry a spray bottle with mint oil to refresh that minty smell.
