When I was a boy camping in the 70s I made stoves out of 5 gallon metal buckets and old tin down spouts I found in farm dumps 😊 .

We had a bit of a scandal down here in the late 70s when it was found out that a lot of BBQ pits were being made from discarded chemical drums. We've got to be careful with what we're using to make stoves out of. Thanks for watching!

Very cool. I just built a quasi shepherd's wagon and went for a vintage look but chose to use a cubic mini wood stove. Looks good. Yours is very interesting and has an oven!

noticed the bb gun on yer wall. I have a good size collection of old bb guns & some camp stoves. Planning on building a couple diminutive wood burners for my campers too.

Unfortunately, its recent manufacture Red Ryder commemorative sold at Walmart this past Christmas season---less than $50. I hang it on the wall to keep me from shooting my eye out :). Small woodburners are a good thing to have b/c running out of fuel isn't likely to happen.

@@lordnebo Yes, but only for long term stays at a fishing or hunting camp. Not really your average backpacking stove. But now you've got me thinking of adding pack straps to the canvas cover I'm going to make for this.

Good to see an early one of sheet steel instead of the thin tin ones on the market. They will get really hot in the firebox. If you were camping in a tent in really cold as in subzero and using a dog sled pooping in the woods was not something you wanted to do. The deposit their solid waste on sheet of birch bark and put it in the roaring fire. Took little time for it to become ash.

It appears to be about 18 or 20 gauge. I won't be using it in a tent as it never gets that cold down here, but putting biscuits on the menu makes a guy popular at the campsite. Thanks for watching!

Nice stove. I just have a standard sheetmetal stove. Are there any baffles inside to direct flames to the stove top or, over the oven chamber above the oven?

The oven is a box that extends into the firebox and spans from the front to the rear allowing the hot air in the firebox to surround the oven box on all sides but not the ends. When I di the baking video, I'll do some close ups shots of the interior that should explain it better. Thanks for watching!

I was thinking the same thing. When I restored the Army stove, I didn't get near as much soot. I cleaned that with a 1: 1 mixture of vinegar and water, a stiff brush and green scratchy pad, and some strong language, but didn't get near as much soot on me as it looks like I'm gonna get off this one. I wonder if I can use the vinegar and water in a pressure washer---
