I´m 44 and I was a a big fan of both bionic shows as a kid in the early 80s (re-runs). So I discovered all those toys only in the early 2000's. I started collecting 6MDM action figures, Bionic Woman, Playsets and "Le Grand Mask-a-tron" arrived around 2009! It´s really an ingenious toy. Kenner did an amazing job with all the bonic toys line.

Mask-A-Tron is the best action figure ever released. I collected several of the option arms and started creating new and different arm/weapons using parts from other action figure weapons.

I loved this toy. He was my time's Buzz Lightyear. There was no better toy than him.

Great review. Very fun. The sculpting on the faces is pretty good. Good enough to jogged my memory that John Saxon played him. Thanks for sharing

These 6 Million Dollar Man videos are really making me feel nostalgic. I have this urge to rummage through my parent's basement now to find all my action figures to see what condition they are in. Between my brother and I, we had quite a few of the accessories for Steve Austin.

I remember taking the pilot insert piece of the smaller Kenner diecast TIE Fighter, nestling it inside the claw arm of Mask-a-tron, and using that entire forearm as a small Star Wars ship. Oh, and I am pretty sure you can fit a cloak-less Kenner Jawa inside Mask-a-tron's back panel, so he can drive it like a Hulkbuster suit of armor. Yeah, there were some pretty epic battles in the old Droid Factory when the giant silver robot came around. The other Jawas would pick up Steve Austin's engine with the Droid Factory crane hook and bash Mask-a-tron.

I loved this toy as a kid I have one of the masks left but that's it :) For toys in that time period I was always amazed at how good the faces looked both with the Six Million Dollar man figure and this toy Steve Austin looks like steve. And the Oscar mask looks like the actor. That was rare in those days to look so much like the real person.

Had a SMDM, nothing else. He hung about with my Action Men... but a bright red track suit sticks out when everyone else is dressed in camouflage gear! Thanks for the great video, Dave!

I had both. I used with Big Jim's PACK Zorak and Bullet Man from GI JOE. I used to have a smaller action figure who had those metal claws for hands people get when their hands get blown off. I can't remember his name though.

I recently found my Maskatron and in the process of restoring it. Got everything but the clothing. I just tried contacting rodhullsghost to see if there was still a repro available or clothing for another figure that can used. Can't have him displayed in his purple undies! 😂

O.K. Toy Polloi, you are bringing back Awesome memories and terrifying memories for me right about now, as a child I had this toy and it was great, but the robot face used to scare me to death, hey, I was only 4, and I love to play with this figure more than Steve Austin, do you have the space probe by any chance?
@toypolloi

Hi Toy Polloi I have watched your episode of the Maskatron from 7 years ago and I was delighted to see the link for Rod Hull for some Maskatron cloths but unfortunately it looks like he is no longer trading so I was just wondering if you might have any other contacts that might do the clothing. PS love both your channels keep up the excellent work your doing 👍🏼

This figure was before my time, but my brother had one (I remember finding the head and one of the faces in a box of old toys he gave me when I was a kid). I wonder if Maskatron was in any way inspired by Takara's Henshin Cyborg?

We have had it for just as long as you did, it was available on tv at the same time, we had the same publicity, the same lunchboxes, the same figures etc so our 1970s and 80s children were/are just as clued up on the subject as any American kid of the same era would of been. I dont think most Americans seem to understand that, although British tv shows on American tv is a relatively recent thing, it isnt the same in reverse. In Britain, we have always had access to American movies, tv shows, culture etc at virtually the exact same time as America did, for a long time. Since at least WW2 If not even earlier. British kids tend to have grown up more clued in to American culture and Americanaa than how many Americans grew up exposed to British culture and becameas Anglophiles.,the only reason is because of availability. It's a lot different since the advent of the internet, and more widespread broadcasting of British tv shows etc, now, kids are growing up pretty evenly matched on both sides of the pond with regards to each others pop culture. Some things some people in Britain got a little earlier than a lot of either British or American children got in their stockings (only because these certain peoples family members worked in certain toy factories in Britain at the time) I won't mention names, but I'll just say this, if my cousins, brothers, sisters, friends and myself still had those many many toys now, some of which were prototypes or early concepts, then we would have paid all our mortgages off years ago!

I saw a lot of Steve dolls at my time(wish that i had one when i was a kid)never saw this Mask a Tron figure. In the late nineties, Mattel tried to copy this feature mask in their own toyline Max Steel His enemy had also a clip on mask(i have this figure) but it was poorly carried out. The hard plastic mask was not /is easy to clip on the soft plastic head. It should be another way around like on your video. Now that i think of it,,Mattel was basically copying this whole idea and giving it another name. In the nineties Max Steel was just a normal guy/boy but now he is the Six million dollar man of today
