@Rose True, it won't work because it is solid underneath. Probably what causes the moisture is the closeness of cold (the outdoors) and heat (your body heat)??? Therefore condensation. I have a platform bed but get no condensation because underneath the bed is as warm as the mattress. What if you made a little platform for the mattress so air can circulate underneath? Would only be able to be a couple inches high or your noses would be hitting the ceiling. Hahaha.

You could build a 1-2” raised area with slats on top for breath ability under the mattress. I have a 1988 EMC Encore and we have made adjustments to be able to use it full time, including bed mods like this.

I think it may be a good idea to sacrifice a little bit of height where your bed is and put some 2"x1" down then put more plywood with holes in (allows air to flow) on top.

You could try placing something under your mattress to raise it up from the bed platform so air can circulate underneath your mattress. And also Amazon has charcoal in small bags that removes moisture and cleans the air. Looks good .Have a great day!

A lot of camper, van and RV drill or cut holes in the sleeping platform to allow air circulation, also that reteflex would work better under the plywood for warmth. It would also allow the plywood to stay dryer as with it on top it is traping moisture on the plywood. It will feel so peaceful and calm for you now. See... good things always come out of bad depending on your thoughts and attitude. Hey Luca & Sara its neat seeing the camper renovations and flashbacks to when you purchased it. That idea about the moisture is spot on correct and the paint will help. *I’d bet the reflectix under the mattress acts as a moisture barrier and probably traps more moisture in (it does more harm than good) so use some batt insulation or something to stop the draft and even better solutions use a hole saw and cut some holes in the wood underneath to allow airflow. Could. Also place “damp rid” underneath because breathing all that in is taxing on health. I’m renovating my conversion also, so I like this type of video you posted! Interested in seeing what’s next for your journey, safe travels.

Loved this video! We had this same problem in our Pop Up and by adding a layer of thick slats it allowed air flow. We also made sure once a week or close to, on laundry day, to expose the boards and flush a fan on it for 8 hours. Haven’t seen mold since.

The most effective method of stopping the mold is the exterior insulation. I don't know how much space between the truck roof and camper bed, but whatever could be added there would be well worth it. Nice work guys! You're livin' the life!

If you are building a camper, it is a good idea to seal the plywood on both sides before you mount it. I think I would have used some kind of oilbased floor varnish and a couple of layers with it. And the plywood needs to be completely dry before you varnich it/paint it. I understand that you couldn't do that now, so hopefully what you have done will help with the problem. If the fumes continue, which they can do for a long time with some paint, I would have repainted it with something that was oil based. It will take longer to dry, but once it has dried, there will not be fumes from it that can cause health problems (allergies). And if you build a 'plattform' for the matress that will give you just a few centimeters of airgap underneath it, it will not get so moist. A frame with some boards on it will do the job. And remember to get airflow through the camper by having windows and vents open whenever you can. You need to open that window in the back every day :-) And the next time you want to repaint the stove top, maybe you would want to consider using enamel paint: www.wikihow.com/Use-Enamel-Paint-on-a-Stove It will be easier to clean, and it won't rust so quickly.

Hi guys, Lucky Leaw looks great! Excellent job! Sailboats have the same issue with moisture under mattresses. On my boat we put a plastic spring system under the mattress which completely solved the problem and made the bed more comfortable than the bed in our house. The company is called Floli. I don't work for them or get any kickbacks but I absolutely love the product and it is pretty inexpensive. It is only about 5cm thick, it is super lightweight and it is easy to work with. Another product i have seen is a stiff, really open weave foam that kind of looks like a giant scrubby pad. It has really good airflow and doesnt compress. You put it under the matress so moisture can evaporate out and not get trapped. I forget the name of that one. Sailboats and campers share many problems and solutions. My wife and I love you guys!
