Hey Gary your guitar is beautiful, the finish looks perfect you really took good care of that thing. Thanks for your story on it I love hearing about these guitars. One I saw very similar to yours is on a KZbin video, it’s Rick James’ band in 1981. Thanks for sharing man, you’re lucky you got your hands on one of those! :-)

I always heard the pointed headstock was designed by R Rhoads when he sketched out the first Jackson guitar known as the Concord.
@garythomas44315 жыл бұрын
There is a strong possibility that he may have been involved, but Grover Jackson stated in a guitar magazine that after the fender lawsuit over the patented headstock shape, his wife came up with the idea of the pointed headstock so it would have similarities to Jackson guitars (since Grover had bought Charvel from Wayne but was business smart enough to leave the Charvel emblem on the neck). Unfortunately Randy is sadly no longer with us, a tremendous loss to music, so we have to rely on stories we hear and choose to believe. I like that Fender guitars went back to using both styles when they bought Charvel around 2000.

Gary Thomas supposedly it was Randy, and Grover liked it because he thought it was a good idea to use it and put the Jackson name on the First two Randy guitars. Grover thought the design from Randy’s was ugly at first and didn’t want the Charvel name on it. Once they were well received by Oz fans and stuff it was continued. Grover was trying to protect Charvel image at first. That’s how I’ve heard it many times before. But who really knows for sure with this kinda stuff. It does make sense though. It was a pretty radical weird design for 1980-1981

Gary Thomas I have several of those. Fantastic guitars. I have a few real San Dimas guitars too. All 3 are pretty rare ones because they are odd balls. I intend to collect at least one real San Dimas era guitar per year from now on.

It is a double rare pre production bumble bee with the rosewood fretboard and the matching headstock. I paid $700 for the guitar in 1981.

It's remarkable how ugly the other "Bumblebee" stripe jobs are. While the original Bumblebee has the best stripe job ever (IMO), the others look like a 5 year old did them
