Early Rolex promotional material boasted the number of ways Wilsdorf's watches were tested in, the amount of accuracy records they'd beaten, their waterproof, dust proof and anti-magnetic capabilities-anything and everything. Of the GMT-Master, Rolex promotional material declares, 'If you were flying the Concorde tomorrow, you'd wear a Rolex.' Sandman hard to expect the bracelet to also be mint. When I got my 5513 I immediately sourced a newer 93150 bracelet for it and left the original on the side. More comfortable, less clinky and more reliable. Keeps the original as it is.

Just simply a brilliant watch. Have owned model variations since the early 1970's. Don't fly as much as I used to but still a valued piece of daily gear. Quite odd, when not on my wrist, I feel naked and my arm is like a wet noodle, just flapping about. Silly to say the least. Although I have embraced digital and glass cockpits for quite some time now, at heart, just an old analog guy.

I am always thinking though the new GMT looks absolutely more modern and premiere, the numbers on the bezel look too big and aggressive than before, which make me prefer the old ones.

Wtf? Perpetual what? As a synonym for automatic. Using Rolex definition a $75 Seiko 5 is a perpetual watch too... Rolex is a mid-tier high end watch. When they start making actual perpetual movements, or start to make true Haute Horology, and something as “simple” as at least a doppel, let alone a Grande Complication, then we can talk. Until then, “innovations” in bezel design or adding an extra gasket is not the “pinnacle” of watch making... but you’re right about one thing, their marketing, as evidenced by this review has done the absolute best job at convincing people otherwise. At that, Rolex is no doubt the crown.

Got a $100 bill says my 1910 Elgin Father Time 16S railroad grade with "only" 19 jewels I "built" from a "scrapped" movement and "1 of 1" silver case from eBay and that probably hasn't been "serviced' in 50 or 60 years if ever will smoke any Rolex you can find timed over a week to the seconds but at least you Rolex "shills' have that "world's first waterproof pocket watch" shit to hang your cone-shaped hats on. You folks just don't ask any questions when its pro-Rolex propaganda, do you? Like why anybody would need much less make a "waterproof pocket watch" before there were rubber o-rings and anybody with a clue knows "high-end" pocket watches were "lever set" and were frequently "opened up" which would make them condensation and fog machines whenever a "climate change" occurred with higher humidity air inside the watch than outside the watch. Rolex was way more innovative to me when the sold their sports models for only about 1k in today’s money. ( they retailed for only around 180 dollars which is around 1k in today’s money). They also didn’t artificially create shortages. The company became a fat greedy dirt bag by forgetting their purpose of providing quality watches to anyone who wanted to buy into their company.

This is the video Rolex collectors will not want too see in the future. If you notice on the old GMT everything aged equally. IMHO, the new GMT will have the same shinny ceramic bezel with faded dial. The hour markers and hands might yellow too, but the oyster bracelet is built to not fall apart or show age.

I’m not a fan of the colour of the ceramic Pepsi bezel. The original is better and it’s iconic but I find it too bright and loud for for my liking. For Pepsi colours I think Tudor are the ones that nailed it, not too bright, not too dark not too purple, perfect.

While I understand and applaud the decision to set a seemingly impossible goal, I also can't ignore that the result of one's work should be of paramount importance. Meaning, in this case: What's the point of baking your own, two-tone, single-piece insert when it can't deliver the brightness and colour you're going for? Shouldn't the visual result ultimately be more important than the fact that you're employing a unique and harder process to achieve it? To put it a bit more simply: Why not look for a stop-gap alternative solution (like bonding two halves through friction) while your R&D-department still perfects the two-colour baking process? As it is, the colours on a $500 homage with an aluminium Pepsi-insert will look better (to me at least) than Rolex' two-tone ceramic on a watch for well over $10,000.

If Rolex was smart they would have made a sapphire-covered lumed bezel like Seiko's Spring Drive GMT. It would be far less complicated (and more practical) and pay homage to the 6542.
