Nice job CT. Taking your time taking it apart and studying it. It’s smart of you to not attempt to dismantle something you’re not familiar with and ask questions to people who might know the proper way of doing things. I saw somebody mentioned about reaching out to Mustie1. Great thing to do. He knows quite a bit about VW’s and their carburetors. Another good idea would be like some people said and get some of those magnetic pans for the nut and bolts. I also use small plastic Tupperware cups to put things like choke parts and bolts in one container. Another one with the accelerator diaphragm, spring, cover, and bolts. Another one for the accelerator rod, spring, 2 small washers and the tiny cotter pin. This way you have organization knowing where everything specifically came from, you’re not missing anything, and you know where it goes upon reassembly. Heat up the ultrasonic cleaner, and put the carburetor housing in it to get them thoroughly clean now on the inside. Get all of the gaskets, and stuff, and have some fun putting it back together. We all look forward to nice new looking rebuilt carburetor video!! Good luck!

Hello CT, the carburetor is in a very good condition for his years. Very good work.
Hello CT, greatings from Brazil. I've a 65 Brazilian Bus (the engine is a 1200cc 6V with 36hp) and the original carb It is a Solex 28PCI. There are many differences between 28PCIT and 28PCI. Great job with the carb cleaning using the ultrassonic bath.

The carb is a lot cleaner than I was expecting. As you started to strip it, I was thinking it was going to be thick varnish inside from decades old petrol. You are so lucky.

CT, nice work again man. Grab some of those magnet bowls. You have on hanging on your file cabinet. All those small parts suck when they hit the ground. Dont know if you have it already, but the idiota guide to keeping your volkswagon alive is awsome for stuff like this. Keep it up man. One more thing off the check list.

Thanks Scott! Yes, I have 3 of them. Two of them are right on the table in front of me when I was doing this.... Oh well. Sometimes you "can't see the forest for the trees"! That's a great book! I have it. I need to use it! =) Stay tuned!

I think you would appreciate a magnetic parts tray when working on things with a lot of small screws and parts like carburetors. Harbor Freight has them dirt cheap and they are a life saver.

You are done with disassembly. It might be helpful if you were to stop by Horrible Fright and pick up a couple few of those handy magnetic bowls for screws etc. I think the 2 gaskets on the needle and seat was to lower the float level.
The little brass curved pipe is the outlet of the accelerator pump. From "Rob and Dave's Aircooled Page" they state: "When you open the throttle, the airflow increases immediately but the fuel (being more dense than air) takes a moment to catch up with the increased airflow. This would result in a lean mixture for a few moments (the car would hesitate), so the carburetor has an accelerator pump built into the side of it which supplies a shot of fuel to ensure smooth acceleration. The accelerator pump connected by a linkage to the accelerator; when acceleration is required, the pump squirts a spray of fuel directly into the throat of the carburetor to momentarily increase the fuel-to-air concentration." Once you reassemble the carb, and fill the bowl up, you should be able to pull on the throttle arm and see a small squirt of fuel into the center of the carb throat. I would not try and remove the small pipe, as it's only pressed fit into the carb body and could be dangerous if it was to work it's way loose when driving.

I know it fun to do things for the 1st time and learning all you can, but with what you have invested already with Rusty plus the little dollars for a new pict 28 or 30; I would get a new carb. and use this as a back-up parts like the guys on VWLife. The one golden rule my son and I have with the VW hobby do all the work ourself. Yes have fun rebuild it test it on the motor then use it as a back-up. Mike F recommended a PICT 30 sold by CarCraft I procured one and put it on my stock 1600 it runs great.

Hi CT I'm Still Enjoying Your Videos. I can't wait to see and hear Rusty going again. Regarding the accelerator rod /shaft with the butterfly's on. check it for play if there's none or very little then leave it on. However if there's to much play then remove it and re-bush it. I hope hope that helps you. Still your loyal Fam from Perth Western Australia 🇦🇺 Kind regards Paul Rawcliffe.

I believe that you have removed enough, the squirter on top is a .004 press fit and is easily removed with a twist, but must be very secure when re installed. Use compressed air every passage. She looks very low miles and original... nice carby tag

I can't avoid to felt frightened watching you disasembling this carburetor because in my experience I know some of these parts were adjusted permamently in factory, buy I'm sure that you know what you're doing. It is very interesting the dedication that you put in your work and I wonder what happen with the rest of the engine? Very good video, congratulations.

The brass piece that looks like a faucet should just pull out. The thing really to check is the brass pipe gas inlet.. It's press fitted and has been known to wiggle out and start fires. I think Mike F did a video about how these gas inlet pipes get threaded into the card to avoid failure. Good video👍🏻

Butterfly screws are usually peened for safety, so you should replace them if removed. Unless there is play in the shaft I would just leave it intact. Also read this guide. www.vw-resource.com/34pict3.html

The carb looks nice and clean. So the only thing to do is cleaning the carb in the ultrasonic cleaner, use compressed air for cleaning and take new gaskets and a new diaphragm for the accelerator pump. I don´t think it´s necessary to disassemble the throttle valve.
@CTmoog5 жыл бұрын
Yes sir! Should be pretty straight forward. I agree. I think the throttle valve is fine. Thank you! Stay tuned! =)

The screws holding the butterfly valves are staked in, don't remove them if you can avoid it. You don't want loose screws falling down the carburetor.

Hi matt, turn on your ultra sonic cleaner and warm it up for 20 mins. While that is happening, watch one of the many videos on mustie1 about cleaning carbs. Don’t bother removing the choke plate, but yes you can remove the accelerator pump nozzle. It twists out. Did the steering wheel trick work? You will need to use a bit of force mind you...
@CTmoog5 жыл бұрын
Good idea sir! I will do that! No, I didn't mess around with the steering wheel again. I'll try it this weekend. Stay tuned! =)
