The tang design is called bifurcated, it's like a 2 prong fork.

The double tang was patented by Western in 1931 and used on most of their fixed blade knives throygh 1990 when the company closed the doors for the last time in Longmont Colorado. The full payment # is 1,967,479. The patented stamp was used on the split tang knives until 1950. Your cross guard knife is a G46-6, called the shark, was made for the military during world war two.

The one on the left looks kinda like the case 366 that they made in the 60s and happens to be my favorite skinner

I've got one of these that belonged to my grandfather. Mine has the upswept skinner style blade, and the handle is black and silver, I beleive they called them "Black Beauty's". As the original sheath is missing I'd like to get a sheath made for it with my grandfather's name, and the dates he lived. Hopefully a couple generations down the line whoever owns it will realise its something special and take good care of it.

A 2 prong tang how cool is that. A pair of really cool old knives. Look forward to seeing how they look and perform at the end of the rehab.

I’m not sure if that’s the technical term lol. But that’s what I call it. Should be a fun project
