I've seen this elevator on You Tube within the last month or less. It's an amazing machine with the signal controls. Maybe you could get permission to see the machine room, I would like the see the controller and gear-less traction machine this marvel has.

@@EWPA14 Possibly is was a "Main" elevator at one time, now relegated to a Service Elevator, would like to know the history of the building it's in. I know of a few Two Elevator (+) buildings that have been fitted with a "Modern" elevator for normal use and the other is of an antiquated design and used for Maintenance and or Freight. The YMCA building in San Francisco is that way.

This 1 was always the freight, although I believe the whole building (passengers included) were like this. This place was built in the early-50s, & originally the entire building was an office building, but the upper floors were converted to apartments a few years ago. The lower 1s are still offices however. My dad used to work here years ago on 1 of the upper floor offices, but he doesn't remember this elevator.

@@EWPA14 Because I think they've almost always had "Automatic" Elevators, having Staff Operators was considered a "Deluxe" feature or in buildings with high Elevator Traffic. Some buildings had Elevators that could be Set to Automatic. The Hotel in the movie In The Heat Of The Night, a plot point was that the murder victim left the Hotel after the Elevators were "Set to Automatic."

It opens to a wall & sometimes the doors get jammed, & if you can't get the doors closed up there, you're stuck since it opens to a wall.
