You’re welcome! It protects the mechanism. As the engine comes to a stop if it doesn’t make it past top dead centre, it can come back on itself and overtime that jolt damages the recoil mechanism!

It would be interesting to put an am radio in the general area. You could probably check the rpm by ear. Good video. 🙂

@Vintage Engine Repairs You should be able to hear it. No touch tachs work by picking up electrical interference, and you are giving it a bigger field to work with. By nature, AM radios usually don't filter interference well, especially cheap ones. I would think it would pick it up as static from a couple of feet away. 😁

@@Rein_Ciarfella You are 100% right about the plug, but the wires are also shielded and this is bypassing the wire shielding. It would be a fun test.

@@Rein_Ciarfella great point! Resistor plugs greatly reduce rf noise but doesn’t eliminate it all together. Tom, try your experiment with resistor and non- resistor plugs, I’d be curious how stable the readings are used non- contactly

Nothing to do with the tach, it’s the lead specifically on these homelite builds. I have an Oppama tach that is just shy of $400 that is the same.
