I saw them in Branson in 2009 and got to meet Paul himself. He was in his seventies and still looked young. Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers and his daughter were the second show. I had the privilege of meeting him and had my pic taken withe he and Paul. I watched these guys on Where the Action Is when I was an 8 year old kid.

Love most of the bands in this video montage. Paul Revere & The Raiders had a hit in the early 70s, plus they still played up till 2016 or so. Electric Prunes played up until early 2000s or late 90s? Sonics played into the 90s era.

Mark Lyndsey had a big solo hit with "Cherokee Nation"( think it came out in '68, maybe '69) a strong message song about the unjust and terrible treatment of Native American people in general, Mark Lyndsey, ( I think) is full blooded Cherokee. Paul Revere & the Raiders were definetly one of the best bands from that great 60's era. "Hungry", " Kicks" and "Just like me" ( Pat Benatar and her band did a blistering remake, as she also did with the Beatles "Helter Skelter"

Just found your channel and really enjoyed the content although some of the bands meant very little to me here in the UK. Interestingly, one of the bands I do remember is Love who had what was known as a 'turntable hit' here with 'Alone again or' meaning it was played a lot but had little or no chart success. However, their claim to fame ( and not a lot of people know this, as Michael Caine used to say) is that the instrumental break in the middle of their track 'The Castle' from the album 'Da Capo' was used by the BBC as a theme tune to their TV programme 'Holiday' - about holidays, obviously. Quite how someone at the BBC managed to find that somewhat obscure track is anybody's guess! Great content sir, keep it up.

I was born and raised in Elmont, NY. Too young at the time to see your band, but.....My brother and sister (17 and 18 at the time) used to go to the Action House to see bands and go dancing. They both have many great memories of seeing the Vagrants, The Illusion, Rich Kids, Good Rats, The Rascals, and many more that played that club. When I was a kid, they let me play their 45s - including "Oh those eyes" and "I can't make a friend" both killer garage rock 45s! I have the 1987 compilation LP "The Vagrants Lost Album" that has all 5 of the Vagrants singles. Thanks for the cool music!

During Chicago's Cryan' Shames segment, some of the pics and film are of British band Paul And Ritchie And The Crying Shames. Two completely different acts.

Yes, correct. All the footage is of the UK band, easily distinguished by a different spelling: Cryin' Shames vs Chicago's Cryan' Shames. The UK band were produced by Joe Meek. His signature haunting sound being very prominent in all of his productions especially 'Telstar' by The Tornados, a UK and US #1. Meek committed suicide on the anniversary of Buddy Holly's death, claiming to have had communications with Holly's spirit. Just before killing himself, he shot his landlady. The last record released just prior to his death was a Cryin' Shames single 'Nobody Waved Goodbye'.

Yeah, the Cryan Shames were sort of our house band at Lyons Township Jr. College (LTJC) in LaGrange in 65/66 (called The Travelers back then). I had a class with Gerry Stone (Stonehenge) and ran against Tom Doody (Toad) for Student Council. The pictures of them (and not the other band) brings back lots of memories of that time.

Awesome list! I’m 17 and actually love most of these groups, wish some of them had more songs. But in my opinion, I think The Box Tops are one of the best gone groups from the 60s. Sure they’re still well known for their classic hit The Letter but they also had other good songs like Soul Deep, Cry Like A Baby, Choo Choo Train, and Neon Rainbow. Also other gone groups I like are The Outsiders, Buckinghams, Classics IV, Kingsmen, Searchers (and more!) , just to name a few.

In 1966, I saw the Standells; they were an opening act for the Rolling Stones. I saw Paul Revere in '66 as well.(and saw them again, I think in the 80s). I really don't think Paul and the Raiders belong on this list. You could say they were a second tier band. Not at Stones or Beatles level, but they did get their share of airplay in the day. And they did keep touring up until 2022.

I know all these bands and either have albums by them or have key tracks on Nuggets releases, including "Mass in F Minor". A friend of mine had an original pressing of "Lies" on white vinyl and I offered him quite a bit for it but he wouldn't sell. I find it interesting that you mentioned the members for most bands but only mentioned Sal Valentino for the Beau Brummels and Arthur Lee for Love. Ron Elliott, who wrote all the original songs for the Beau Brummels, and Bryan Maclean, who wrote some of Love's best songs, were awesome and deserved a mention for sure. Plus, as noted, you've included photos of the wrong bands...most notably the Animals. All that said, still a good listen.

The mix ups on this entire video are endless. He's talking about Chicago group The Cryan' Shames, but some of the photos and the song clips are British group Paul and Ritchie and The Crying Shames.

Yes, correct. All the footage is of the UK band, easily distinguished by a different spelling: Cryin' Shames vs Chicago's Cryan' Shames. The UK band were produced by Joe Meek. His signature haunting sound being very prominent in all of his productions especially 'Telstar' by The Tornados, a UK and US #1. Meek committed suicide on the anniversary of Buddy Holly's death, claiming to have had communications with Holly's spirit. Just before killing himself, he shot his landlady. The last record released just prior to his death was a Cryin' Shames single 'Nobody Waved Goodbye'.

You forgot The Fifth Estate, a band from 1967 that got up to number 11 nationally with Ding Dong the Witch is Dead. In fact, they toured with a number of the bands on this list. Also, they have a new album coming out in the spring.
