The end of the video "Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurrah)" was meant to indicate they are really splitting this time, but with no hard feelings involved. But then they reunited again four years later. Toto also split twice but have been together since 2020, with some personnel change. a-ha, of course, have never had personnel change. In the 80s it was better for bands that there wasn’t piracy via the internet, then subsequent cutthroat deals with companies like iTunes … but at that time, there wasn’t exposure without labels and radio play. It’s a shame that for new music we don’t have a system protected from piracy and affiliated industry, that would still allow for internet recognition and buzz. Surely the technology exists, but the industry prevents it? How great would it be for new music if they could charge (and get) CD/LP prices without having to rank in a streaming service?

@hannable7011 күн бұрын
I thought Sigue Sigue Sputnik was pronounced "Seek Seek Sputnik" or even "Sick Sick Sputnik" (I've heard it both ways) but never "Sig-way, Sig-way Sputnik." I really do miss the days when content creators actually read their own damn material instead of foisting it onto some AI text-to-speech robot that misprounces everything that isn't in some kind of pre-programmed dictionary. While it's not necessarily the "end of the world," it is rather annoying and jarring when you're listening to it, expecting to hear one thing and instead hearing something totally different. Regardless, knowing that an awful lot of content creators are leaning on AI bots to actually present their material has caused me to not subscribe to channels or like videos. Not to mention that if I subscribed to every channel in which I watched even one video, i'd have a sub list with hundreds upon hundreds of entries -- which kind of makes subbing pointless.

I loved growing up in the 80s. Sometimes it felt as if that decade had been made just for me. At least it did at the time. Looking back on it now, though, I realize a lot of things were really cringe-worthy -- especially most movies and television shows that came out during that decade. There were some good ones -- the Indiana Jones movies, the Back to the Future movies, Ghostbusters, John Hughes movies, and a few others. But the 80s was soiled -- even ruined -- the the Satanic Panic and the authoritarian fascism of irritating religious fanaticism. In fact, growing up in the 80s made me a die-hard anti-theist as well as an atheist. Unfortunately Ronald Reagan was a big time fundy religious fanatic who truly believed we were living in the "End Times." One of the things he did was pack the FCC, whose members are appointed by and answerable only to the president of the United States, with big-time fundy Christians like him. Christians who believed they had some kind of religious mandate to force -- literally FORCE all Americans to watch good, wholesome entertainment on television, at the movies, and on the radio. This is why, in every action show that aired during the 80s, almost no one died. Ever. This was why there could be 20,000 people shooting machine guns at each other -- and not one single person would die. At best, someone ... one person, maybe two ... would get hit in the arm. It's not that I want to see people die. It's just so unrealistic. And at the end of every ineffective gun battle, the big Hero of fhe good guy's team would engage in a "mano y mano" fist fight with the leader of the Bad Guy team. A few punches would be thrown, the Baddie would get knocked out, and the police sirens would start wailing about 5 seconds after the Baddie hit the floor. All the shows, from action shows to sit coms were highly formulaic and extremely predictable. This was due to the FCC becoming more or less a church which was beating the war drums against sex and violence on television. That was the big horrible stain on the 80s -- the autocracy of organized religion refusing to give people the right to listen to and watch whatever movie, television show, radio broadcast they wanted -- without some pushy religious fanatic telling them they were going to hell. And that happened quite often where I lived. Even at our damn prom, a group of us teens were out in the hall where we could talk about our relationship issues and parental issues and other "issues" away from the loud music and other distractions -- and here comes the janitor, lecturing us on how we were all going to rot in hell for listening to that evil rock music. It was always rock music. Even after rock music had fallen out of favor and gansta rap had FAR worse lyrics than rock ever had ... and still these dinosaurs complained about rock music. According to these people, simply listening to a rock song was a one-way ticket to eternal damnation. It was so damn stupid.
