Totally agree. I currently have my 1998 BMW 328i for sale and most of the people wanting to buy it are younger people, wanting to mod it and drift it etc. My car in particular is a low mile, clean example with a manual gearbox and good owners history so it sucks to sell a car which may end up getting crashed or trashed by the next owner...

@@saimk4239 What does it matter, if you got the amount you wanted for it, then why would it bother you what happens to it. The perfect buyer could come along, promise to maintain it and keep it stock, and get into an accident a block away and total it. As much as I like cars, they are temporary, and the more attached you get, the harder it is to let them go.

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm the same, although most of the cars I have sold have been near end-of-life in some people's eyes. Fast forward to about 2015 and I bought a 2004 with some miles on it as a daily beater. After about 1.5 years of dedicated service it finally grenaded on me. I had the infamous timing chain rattle on startup from the hydraulic tensioner, don’t know exactly what happened but that probably played a role.

My mom had 2 mountaineers and a 04 Aviator. My dad at the time worked at a Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda dealer. So my family owned a couple ford and Mazda products. In a snow storm in around 2007 or so my mom was on a business trip to Maine. Driving the aviator, in the snow at probably 70mph on the highway when full-size 4WD trucks are stopped and won’t go. That thing was a beast. And considering she basically already owned two, with the mountaineers. Considering they are basically the same car. Very interesting vehicles but also pretty nifty also.

Best friend and I always used the "buddy system" to check out used cars. After a while it became clear the state of the owner's property was almost always the better indicator of said car's condition. Also you probably would've been fine if you never towed with it. 🙂 You'd think, absent a fix, Ford could've at least reigned in that overly generous towing capacity, but I guess that would've hurt sales.

aviators are fun, those years have a nearly the same 32v dohc v8 that were in the mach-1 and non-terminator cobras. 6 bolt unforged crank but everything else is pretty much plug and play. I never looked in the engine bay of an aviator but in my mustang the master cylinder was in the way of the drivers side head so working on that side was a PITA and pulling the head would mean pulling the MC and booster, you couldn't even get the valve cover off on that side.

My early life was spent in Lincoln’s. My family despite claiming America as our home, still had ties to the old country Dominican Republic. So my dad would buy a car and send it to the DR to use whenever we went there, usually in the summer. The first was a 99 Town Car bought from a taxi cab fleet in New York. Somebody there loved it so much that we ended up selling it at heavy profit there. I’ve seen it around Santo Domingo still, it’s been repainted but still driving fine The second one was a 2001 Navigator. Absolute beast of a car with the triton v8, interior nice as hell. My father got it off eBay for a steal around 2003, but he had to travel halfway across the country to drive it back. It’s been through 3 minor fender bender accidents but it’s still running fine. Although it’s about to be sold, just cause we don’t go back to DR as much as we used to, and the maintenance costs that result from it sitting are too much. The third and final one was a 2004 Aviator. This is the one I have the fondest memories of. My father bought it in 2006, also off eBay with the original intention of sending it off. But driving it across a few states he loved it so much he decided to just keep it in the states. I was 2 years old when he got it and it’s probably the earliest automotive memory I have when he rolled up to our Bronx apartment in it. We did everything in that truck, and it handled everything. He of course did the preventative cylinder fix so no mechanical issues (through the fuel pump did fail on a road trip once, stranding us). I was about 11 when he decided he wanted something Japanese (he had his eye on the Acura ZDX) and sold it to a family member who had just gotten married. But they neglected to take proper care of it and after getting impounded with expired tags. It ended up back in our possession before getting sold to a stranger who said he would restore it back to to oem condition. Never checked back with him but I’d like to

They’re slow but safe, and that probably the ideal car for an 18 year old city kid. My friends and I practically lived in the thing. One fine day we were just cruising around, and my stoned friend in the backseat suddenly said, “ This thing is awesome. It’s like a flying couch!” 💥💥💥BOOM!💥💥💥 The FLYING COUCH was born! I still have it and it has 185k now. I went ahead and replaced the engine and transmission after both went out around 90k. Its hard to maintain because the parts are non-existent now, but I've taken it from Ohio to South Carolina several times, towed with it, hauled my family in it, camped in it, and I've never gotten stuck in snow. If Ford would've fixed some of the flaws and did a refresh similar to how they did Explorer and Mountaineer, this would've been the perfect vehicle.

I had my 2004 Aviator for eight years. Longest I ever owned any vehicle. Loved that ride. The AC seats were great and it sat seven in a pinch. Hauled two Sea-Doo PWCs for years.

Years ago I bought a 75 Harley Davidson police bike it never seen Police service but a woman bought it brand new in 75 I got all the paperwork where she had bought a t-shirt for $3. Now when do you get anything for $3 at a Harley dealer anymore. But I had to meet her at the dealer where she had it. Because it is set for some time and they went through it and made sure it was road safe. And she said she wanted to talk to me before she would sell it she did not want this cut up into a chopper. At that time the chopper craze was starting up again this may have been in the late 90s. And I assured her I like classic motorcycles and this was going to stay just the same way. She worked the switchboard at a phone company of course this place is it quite a few years ago. The old man that sold this auto reminded me of her.

I had to have a top end rebuild on mine due to the heads. Also, you don't have to lift the body off to do the heads, you just have to pull the engine out.

Great story. I currently have an 04 Aviator and absolutely love it even though it is extremely rusty. I have owned it for about 4 years. It was my wife's until recently when my daughter took it to collage. I wish they had kept making it, I would buy a newer one (I know they are making them again but I am not about to drop 60K+).

Our 04 Aviator is rusting away, too. But man, that thing has mojo. It just drives so sweet! It has power when called upon but sucks on gas. I prefer driving that over my newer Navigator.

I didn't know about the cyl 1 issue on the 4.6 in the SUVs, I thought they were bullet proof. I had a 4th gen Explorer with the 4.0 and didn't my homework either, only to have the death rattle and finally the rear timing chain break and kill the engine. She was a miracle though and made it to *250,000 miles.* Unheard of for a 4.0l that had original chain guides. Thought for sure the trans would die first. It was a sad day having her hauled off to the scrapyard.
@9HighFlyer9
@9HighFlyer9 2 жыл бұрын
I bought a 3rd gen with the 4.0 and 120,000mi. It had the timing done at 110,000. The trans went out at 140,000mi. Damn 5r55w
@Aaron48219
@Aaron48219 2 жыл бұрын
@@9HighFlyer9 oh man that's rough. Did the 4th gen have the same trans? Never had issues with trans or transfer case, which was surprising since *every* other ford I've owned had trans problems.

I believe the engine in his particular SUV was a 4V, which seem to have odd issues, but as you stated, yes, the enimic 2V engines will go half a mill sometimes and keep begging for abuse.

Hey Guys. Love the CH. Need some....guidance. Cause I'm at the GF 'a lot,' the town here in CT just sent me 3 years back-billing for vehicle (property) tax due to plate scanning. What license plate skewing-tech are you intimately familiar with to 'streamline' by future billing as zero in the future?
