Welding circumferencially around the tube makes it contract. You either need to turn it a few thousandths larger to begin with or ream/grind it out after it’s finish welded. Cutting Edge Engineering showed this on their latest hydraulic cylinder rebuild video.

I'm a Heavy equipment mechanic in the mining industry we usually use nitrogen in a metal pail to freeze bushings, you need a diffuser to get liquid nitrogen but a few minutes and they drop right in no heating needed. When I don't have any nitrogen it's the freezer and heating method with lots of hammering and curse words lol.

I pack my bearings in dry ice prior to install. Works way better than a freezer. If I worry that it is still going to be super tight, I'll run a brake wheel cylinder hone down the sleeve to smooth it out after being welded.

To bolt that recessed zerk in - put a bag in the socket, stick the fitting in, rip extra bag away. The bag takes up the slope between the socket and the zerk/nut/bolt/etc. Paper works good too.

If u cold soak a close fitting pin inside the bushing that will help hold the cold longer . I would use dry ice with alcohol for the cold soak . Also use the pin for alignment with the opposite bushing . No question of alignment then. The bushing should also have a smooth chamfer to help guide into the hole . Keep the dry ice and alcohol close by ( lower travel time ) and keep it inside a Styrofoam fishing bucket or cooler sized as needed. Be sure you protect from spilling its dangerously cold. Inside cardboard with blankets or similar.

Hey Viny, this is what I do for interference fit, go to your local weld supplier for some dry ice in a cooler. I would set up a hydraulic press as well with levelling table, works every time for me. Could also use Enerpac tooling. As you know the driving force for the bushing should be applied evenly and ensure parts are free from burrs, nicks etc. Good luck with the build. Cheers, Joe

Another thing u can do is make your cold soak pin with a shoulder and use it as a bushing driver . The big boys ( manufacturers ) machine the weldment after it is welded together so they know its perfectly round. No question about its fit .

In regards to the first episode, I recommend getting a magnetic drill and just swizz cheese your existing table, you will save approx 9500 bucks lol. As for this video, and I'm sorry for unintended innuendo's, pro tip with that grease nipple at 7:00, put some grease in the socket, the nipple will stick to the socket 😁 Those bushings are tough customers, surprised you didn't use the press for those, and ideally the housing needs chamfer so you can start the bushings easier, there's some solid pointers on CEE here on KZbin! Knew that boom plating would twist with heat, so was laughing at your expense when you used torch on the boom plating because I knew you'd figure out how to use the press. My main takeaway from this is clamps, so I went out and bought some... Will buy more 😆

When you make your bushing that you will later install with a press fit, turn the first .200" down about .010" This you a locating register for the part to drop in and sit straight in the hole before you try to drive it home. Much more likely to get it started straight. Good luck, and thanks for the build videos.

Hey Viny, This has been a great series. So good, that there is another project I wanted to mention, because I think you could do it even better. There is a channel called Lucia's Workshop and she is building her own skid steer. Like your channel, it is very entertaining and the project is turning out awesome. I think you would appreciate it, and also do a great job building a similar piece of equipment. Either way, I would love to see more of this type of project... you have a real knack for DIY farm implements. Keep up the great work bud!

If u need to use threaded rod to draw the bushing in u need to make a shouldered end plate to keep your threaded rod centered on both ends . Alignment is crucial... Have everything ready to go. Not to be hunting for your stuff to assemble.

@@VinyB57 oui mais tu veut pousser en extension pour relever le boom (L'extension a plus de force que le retraction...(la rod prend de l'espace donc moins de surface pour l'huile a pousser) Il y a pas mal plus d'utilité a avoir de la force en montant le boom qu'en le descendant...... ..je viens de voir des mini excavatrice monté comme toi: j'ai toujours apprécié que le cylindre soit au dessus(plus protégé), mais jamais compris pourquoi le cylindre est pas dans l'autre sens :|

To make your bushing start correctly when you're pressing them in, you need to turn about 6 mm on one end to a couple thousandths of an inch smaller than your press fit bore. This will allow it to sit in the hole so you can start straight so when you hammer on it or press it in, it will slide correctly. He also need to get the part with the bore quite a bit hotter than I think you are. It needs to be a dull red color before you remove the torch.

Great progress. This is going to be such a great attachment. As for bushes. All thread is not really up to the task. A high tensile rod with thrust washer/bearing nuts would be a better choice. The addition of some adapters to align the sleave would help. Or a hydraulic puller. Other issue is the heating of the arm, I suspect the torch heat is almost instantly negated by the thermal mass of the rest of the arm. You have a sexy press, which would do a nice of installing the bushes, but I understand the hassle of setting it all up.

When you are heating the boom, the whole thing wants to expand, so it is expanding into the hole, effectively closing the hole for the bushing. I’d try freezing them both so they both contract.

Pour rentrer des bushing pressfit de même c'est plus froid que ce qu'un congélateur de maison peut te donner. Soit de la glace carbonique ou de l'azote liquide. Question de vraiment la refroidir et que ça prenne assez de temps pour la réchauffer dans ton tube chaud qu'elle est déjà rendu au fond de la sleeve. Source: Je suis mécanicien véhicule lourd. Been there, done that.

not a fan of using rams "inverted". that is, your main lift ram, as its on the top... it has to PULL, its in tension... and that means you lose the force equal to the piston rod diameter, and youre stressing the rod seals as well as piston seals, along with whatevers holding the end cap on.. i just chopped my backhoe up to undo this very feature and flip it so the ram is underneath where it makes the most force when needed... when breaking out, lifting UP... major difference. look at every excavator... yes, i know.. it reduces clearance and/or risks more damage but i prefer it that way.
