Thanks, I thought I started rambling a bit but sometimes it's like that when there's alot to cover.

Good Monday morning Martin. I do remember mini discs. I completely agree with you on the Moby album. I never listened to it either. Never really had the urge for some reason or another. Louvin Brothers. Hmm. Was it their incredible harmonizing that put them on so many turntables around the world? Dig the flexi disc and the fabulous assortment of albums. Like the Cinnamin 'Pony Up'. Some of the 5th Dimension stuff is really good. That was one heck of a morning wake-up update Martin. Enjoyed it very much. Have yourself a good day. Hope the sun is shining there. It is not doing so here at the moment~ Rob/Boston

Hi Rob, it was the hottest June here on record beating 1940 & 1976. I've started to find the whole country phenomenon captivating. More old stuff though not Garth Brooks. How you doing? Did I mention Morrissey is playing the theatre here where I live but it's very expensive, I'm sure it'll sell out though. It's a nice venue but there's only like 4-5 concerts there per year, the rest is shows from London which isn't really my thing. Like you say I think it's the harmonized vocals but you can hear that duel reverence of what they sing about with honesty of a more serene time combined with certain amount of terror. I cannot imagine what the Bible belt is like in America but I'd like to go there to see.

Hi Martin, I love the Play School record. My daughter's favorite doll that she got when she was a baby is called Hamble. I don't think she knows yet where the names comes from. The latest fad in the VC seems to be Belly Dance music. Do you ever come across that in the wild? Cheers
@Thevinylscavenger Жыл бұрын
Hi John, are you due a passing visit through the Shire at anytime in the near future? Just put that out there. Play School I definitely watched and remember the names. At the risk of hipster card removal I've had a few belly dancing records and most are pretty much the same. I saw a belly dancer on holiday once at our hotel. That was more than enough for me thanks.

That's certainly an eclectic bunch of discoveries Martin. I couldn't tell you much about him but Alfred Brendell is one of the pianists I heard growing up courtesy of my dad's love of solo piano music. I have vivid memories of watching Play School as a kid - I so wanted my hair in braids like Floella's. Quick bit of trivia - she appeared in the first ever episode of Bergerac.
@Thevinylscavenger Жыл бұрын
I would like to say yes it's Brendel and he's superior to other pianists but can I tell the difference? Probably not 😂

Thanks. That kinda stuff is always wrecked so to salvage two of the better ones I was more than pleased. Yes I am a flatlander from the wild west of Pohjanmaa. Well by marriage at the very least......

Hi Martin. The room looks fine ... My ex-neighbour was a big lover of the mini-disc. The technology lives on in the CeX chain of shops ... Anne Dudley was in the Art Of Noise ... Some really nice country and rock 'n' roll albums, especially Tommy Collins ... The 5th Dimension is the most interesting album you showed.
@Thevinylscavenger Жыл бұрын
CeX shops for minidiscs? Oh I'll have to go take a look we have one here where I live.

He produced the Primitives album 'Galore' very underrated album and band. I think I'd have cringed at having to hear three lions again though.

This is without doubt a great channel relaunch video, well done. Bringing Playschool, Bernard Manning, Jim Davidson, some cleavage, country and some USSR together in one video. Flo Benjamin seems to have had every award going (for kids charity work I assume) yet we always think of her as messing about with Humpy in playground 😂 Great eclectic veritable vinyl feast 👍
@Thevinylscavenger Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm not so sure it was a channel relaunch maybe a bit of ramble and moan which happens every once in a while. Jim Davidson I listened to and he's even less funny than he was then. I met him once and I wasn't that impressed......

Wow that's a very Vinyl Scavenger haul there Martin. You should get some sounds or some pounds from those. I showed a Fairuz in my last video. Have that Play School album too, which I must clean and give a spin as it's been on the shelf for at least two years...Reselling sex is perhaps an unfortunate word combo...I always want to try to like the 5th Dimension...Great stuff...
@Thevinylscavenger Жыл бұрын
some sounds or some pounds - why didn't I think of that? Fairuz? I need to go back and check. Play School was good wasn't it? Just not so memorable as all the animated classics and cartoons we all loved. You've been inspiring this year with the culling but I understand things will probably slow down now. There's another Trunk Fayre up in London in October I think so consider if possible as it's worth the effort. Just start saving now though as plenty will grab you. Cheers.

Nice eclectic mix there Martin. Not sure I would have picked any of those up. Not that any of them would be found amongst the absolute dross that haunts the charity shops of Wallsend.

Hi Chris, it's understandable. I am known for my obscure tastes, it's not deliberate I just like to try different things. Actually Buckinghamshire being dead posh had a ton of classical more than anything not much proper working class music knocking about unfortunately. The same crud though we also have.

Nice bunch of Stetsons, Martin. Sadly Bobby Osbourne died last week. Not many of the old school country and bluegrass guys left now. I like Tommy Collins, he was one of the early creators of the Bakersfield sound and a good friend and mentor to Merle Haggard. The Bakersfield sound used electric guitars, famously the Fender Telecaster, had more back beat and drew inspiration from rock and roll and music from across the Mexican border. Wynn Stewart, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and later Dwight Yoakam were all exponents of the Bakersfield sound. Hed

Bakersfield isn't that where VC punkster Vinyl Richie resides? When the wall is completed thats the end of bluegrass and drug cartels then? I am now as they say 'digging the country' I don't think it's a passing fad more an expansion of mid life done jazz, done classical, done folk so this is the last unconquered wild west. No sports cars for me thanks.

Well that was a pretty international selection of music. Got to hand it to you for your eclectic tastes. Not much I had ever seen before which makes it much more interesting. Lots of a Russian.

Lots of Russian yes but I'd like to make this totally clear to all VC US and government I am in no way a communist 😂

As a child I found her scary. Like the scary teacher at primary school. But then I didn't like dogs either so I suppose something had to be done to combat the ferocious beast lol.

Pre recorded minidiscs go for a bomb now Martin. Nice to see someone in the VC showing that format, I have several players picked up cheap from marketplace. Lamented its' passing when Mp3 finally killed it off. You certainly pick up some varied and interesting titles..can't say I'm familiar with any of them, but thats' part of the alure of the VC I guess. Great Playschool album, I think those 70s TV albums are getting quite collectable now. Oh dear, big Bernard..goes down a treat with modern WOKE agenda..him and Jim Davidson would've been a match made in heaven. Frankie Howerd..ooh missus, now you're talking..😅
@Thevinylscavenger Жыл бұрын
It's questionable was Jim Davidson ever funny.? I met him once with mates in a club he owned early 90s and we told him your DJ is S**t. I don't think he found us or that very funny either.......

@@Thevinylscavenger No, definitely not the kind of comic that would easily laugh at himself..never liked him even when I was a kid, just wasn't funny.
