Hi Martin. I like Public Service Broadcasting. I saw them live in an upstairs room at a pub very early on and was impressed. I also like Mahalia Jackson. I have a musty record by her. All charity shops used to have that unpleasant musty smell. I was in a little one the other day, which was more like an old-fashioned junk shop, and it had that distinctive odour. I did leave though with a superb soul comp on Kent. All the best with the move when it finally happens.

Hiya Carl. Unpleasant smells? Hmmmmmm yes worst is tobacco I think. Seeing PSB in room above a pub is very cool. They made me think I need to get something by them at least. I saw first ever Porcupine Tree gig in a room above a pub in High Wycombe and also Pearl Jam first London concert, 2nd ever in UK. Moving is making me cull quite a bit though when I get back to selling at fairs I don't know. Cheers, Martin.

Looking forward to the Medieval Vinyl tag 2025 I must say, don't let me down Martin! You can't beat a good cardigan, one should never be ashamed. I saw that Dalek album at the record fair (£10) so you did well. I was convinced the thumbnail was Organisation by OMD but then looked closer. As for Mojo, I can only do a video now when the mood takes me, I feel like it and also have the time. KZbin can get stuffed, they treat hobby areas with contempt. The rubbish algorithm also does its best to sink the VC. However, you do seem to get alot of good comments Martin so I hope that helps the mojo a bit, cheers.

@@SteviesVinylCupboard thanks yes and I try to reply to all comments and I know most of the people too which is nice. @@Thevinylscavenger I don't think you are alone about getting up to 100 views. With YT, views should never be taken as a measure of popularity as it all depends on how much that video is shown around, IE the 'impressions' . More often or not, you'll get a video given exposure on the impressions reach for an hour or 2, maybe more, and then YT will drop it like a stone if it hasn't 'performed'! If it does buck up a bit YT will give it a push etc. But, as the YT algorithm favours clickbaity type things, and YT doesn't alert subscribers in a sensible way, any hobby topic area is on the back foot from the start. Momentum is therefore hard to achieve for long videos.
@jamesgriffithsmusic
@jamesgriffithsmusic 6 күн бұрын
@@Thevinylscavenger I think views are down across the board. I now routinely get a third less views than I was getting even earlier this year. The only time that changes is when I deliberately go as click-baity as I can, which I don't really like doing. Greater number of clicks doesn't usually translate to greater interaction - I've had a lot of views on my new video but judging by a lot of the comments, people are just commenting without actually watching.

Martin! Yay! Whoop whoop! I'd quite like to hear that "medieval" version of Carmina Burana. What an odd thing to do to a 1930s piece. Of course, early music recordings were all the rage in the late 60s. Talking about music being all the rage at certain times...What was it about the 70s which seemed to breed christian singing groups and artists? Why did the church groups feel the need to spread the good word via dodgy folk and rock music? Is it still a thing? Are the various evangelical christian groups churning out religious versions of contemporary music today? How're they disseminating the music? Is it all online these days? As much as I dislike Johnny Trunk, at least his record fair seemed to throw up some interesting stuff. Hed

No need to go Kirppis now. I onky missed crappy iskelmä albums. But we got Kenny G, Mantovani etc.. I checked Munich Machine and it was kind of cool eloctronic music from 78. Two versions of Holst Planets symphony in the piles. I would buy (cheaply) if I found here...

It was interesting to see the different packaging that US artists got for their UK budget compilations. Wouldn't you think that it would save money to recycle the covers? The Everly Brothers cover portrait was particularly dreadful. Still, I don't think that cutting costs in the art department really created a savings that got passed on to the buyer. That "Crosby Classics" LP is one of my most listened to albums. The music is very dated, but I really like Bing's recordings from the early 1930s. That ASV Living Era Bing Crosby compilation also has good tracks. My copy has a little white sticker that says "Made in England." That Merle Haggard/Willie Nelson record has become an entry-level collectable here in recent years. I usually see it priced at around $20 now. It was a clearance staple before Willie Nelson records got discovered by hipsters. The title track is great. Les Paul and Mary Ford will be worth a listen. Les' guitar playing is a treat for the ears. Bonus Trivia: Les Paul and Bing Crosby were early adopters of German tape-recording technology that was brought back to the USA as plunder. Les used the tape to pioneer multitrack recording. Bing used it to pre-record his radio show broadcasts. That Roy Orbison record has a good collection of hits that will sound great if the album got a good pressing. Cheers, Jacob

@@DallasOpenMicr I'm so sorry I've bunged bing in the bin.There are some truly dreadful illustrations out there (would it be fair to compare to Italian catholic Jesus?). We don't have made in England stickers or products anymore it's all UK though Wales, Ireland and Scotland can all feel good about themselves. I will try the hipster country here it's not hipster to my knowledge. Maybe ask Hedley he'll know more what they are clinging onto. Talking of clinging on looks like Donald will and Joe won't. @@Thevinylscavenger Willie and Merle aren't/weren't hipsters, but the hipsters have decided that they were far enough removed from mainstream country music that they are cool. It's hard to tell if the hipsters like the music as much as they like the image. Willie is the only elderly country entertainer who I've seen attract a young crowd at his live shows. Willie's mainstream hits, like "On the Road Again," get a strong reaction from youngest concert attendees. The twentysomethings go wild when they hear the familiar/nostalgic songs. (These are also the few songs that most actually know. They get bored and talk loudly during the deeper cuts.) I would imagine that many of the drunk young ladies who soulfully wave their beer cans in the air while swaying to the music don't actually own a single Willie Nelson album. Cheers, Jacob

Good evening Martin. So good to see you again on this Sunday evening. I saw that James Griffiths posted a new video that I will get to later on. I have to say. That was one of the most unique variety of records that I have seen in a long time. I do not really know what to say about 90% of them. Because I am not really familiar with them. People like Marty Robbins, Peter Ustinov {I thought that he was an actor}, George Hamilton {an actor from here in the US who is always tanned} and Boxcar Willie I am aware of. But not their music. Manfred Mann and Pavarotti were nice finds. It was a longer video but interesting from start to finish Martin. Are you going to give each one of those a listen? That may take you some time to do so. But if so. I hope that some of them are much better than you may have expected. Have a nice week~ Rob/Boston

Hello Mr Scavenger. I swear one of those boxes was full of a bunch of country records I dumped at a charity shop a few years ago. I've got a couple of Jean Redpath records, she's quite a good Scottish folk singer who spent most of her later years in America or Canada. She has a nice voice, but there is a whiff of shortbread about her. I've got that Lewis Family record. Pretty good bluegrass gospel. My parents had that Gary and Vera Aspey album. I think they bought it at one of their gigs. I used to love it, the 8 year old me found the funny songs hilarious. Lots of music there that's become horrifically out of date. Makes one wonder what is the modern equivalent? You can't move for Robbie Williams CDs at the charity shop. Hed

@@anotherfatbeardedmantalkin5893 Robbie Williams you can keep his back catalogue thank you very much. Especially Angels with it's dodgy theological instabilities. It's possible it's the same box? Hilarious. I reckon the outlay was worth it because of the UK folk records. Rare stuff and some of the CDs were decent too. The Lewis Family. The Carter Family. Hmmmmm it'd be difficult to turn down the family and go and be a dairy farmer or an accountant.

Harry/Wales must've been a huge appeal for many how many got Woolworths budget label presents as stocking fillers for Xmas? Well I thought it was kinda different in retrospect maybe go back to some decent cool records next time. Hope you are enjoying the summer.

I read that Kim Gordon book - I am not a Sonic Youth fan, so I am not sure why I read it. I found I didn't like her, or Thurston Moore. Leaving the covers in a container full of charcoal, maybe even kitty litter should do the trick. Lovely jazz in that whole bunch. The Iron Maiden 12" single cover is amazing - you MUST keep it just for that. Bonzo is a must keep as well - The Intro and Outro is outstanding. Why did Mofi do a Crystal Gayle record?
