Nice phone, push-button is very trendy...I had DVD box set of Are You Being Served in my hand at boot sale this morning but put it back. Nice Sound Effects, love those covers...Every collection needs a Shadows hits album...I'm coming back to REM now, having shunned them for years...Always nice to see 12s...keep the videos coming Martin, cheers Dale

I'd have preferred a dial one really to match my childhood. Shadows were better without Cliff right? REM were so over baked it's taken this long to hear them again. Do I need to say I'm free and has anyone seen my pussy? Hilarious.

Hi Martin. You never disappoint with the variety of your finds. You can almost make albums by John Inman and Peter Ustinov sound desirable (certainly as nostalgic reminders of childhood) ... Some excellent country records from Hedley. Country Gazette (bluegrass), the Louvin Brothers and Doug Kershaw caught my eye. I also remember Hedley's video about those country box sets ... I always like seeing CDs. It's hard to resist when they are 4 for a quid. I'm also picking up sealed DVDs for 20 pence just for the new cases.

Cheers Carl, likewise your videos are not disappointing either. The CD thing really doesn't bother me now in fact just diverse formats broadens the whole feel of loving the music.

@@Thevinylscavenger I've started picking up cassettes in recent months. They sound good and I like the packaging too. I played 'Tubular Bells' on cassette the other day.

13 days late Martin, sorry. Brave decision to go with Phil in your thumbnail. I've never owned that particular album but I did get the CD single of 'Another Day in Paradise' when it came out, and I very much liked (and still do) the 'B-side', 'Heat on the Street'. Phil is very misunderstood. I actually have quite a lot of Waylon Jennings LPs, which I haven't listened to enough. I've decided to start buying classical records here and there as I have a spare cube which I didn't have before. Going to have to be very selective so I'll enjoy the discipline of that. Glad you decided to show John Inman. After our chat I had a look to see if 'Are You Being Served' is available to watch online and indeed it is. Mr Humphreys of course. Elton John named himself after Long John Baldry and the Soft Machine horn player Elton Dean. Another useful fact for you. I purged my Hot Chip CDs during the move - it was time. Cheers, James

It is raining like crazy here in Massachusetts. Nothing new. It rained every weekend all summer long except for one. Fantastic intro Martin. I was wondering if you were either very busy like myself. Or if you were taking a few months off. Nice to hear that you met up with Hedley. A very cool guy. I love the British VC community. So many gents that I would love to hang out with. One of these days I am hoping to make it a reality. That was nice of Hedley to give you a few albums. I am the same way with the Louvin Bros. I know their religious stuff. A Night with the Voodoo Family sounds interesting. You said that it has some funky vibes to it? People have been dishing REM since they started. I always liked their music. But 'Automatic 4 Z Peeps' is the best album they ever released. Side A is so so so good. I went to a Morrissey birthday party once in New York at the Roseland Ballroom. A friend of mine was a huge REM fan. He went up to Michael Stipe and asked him to sign something. Michael turned to him and said "I'm sorry. I do not sign autographs". I was shocked. But even seeing that I still liked him. Tubular Bells always reminds me of seeing The Exorcist in the eighth grade. It scared the heck out of me. Maybe because I saw it on the big screen. The sound effects alone were chilling. Really enjoyed this one Martin. Hope to see you again sooner than later. Enjoy the rest of the weekend~ Rob/Boston

You clearly went back in time for that telephone. I can find tons of old country records in Kentucky & Tennessee, but precious little 90s/00s British indie rock.

We clearly need a TARDIS. The telephone still actually works..... just. I bought it in a charity shop for £3 for the novelty value.

The ...But Seriously album was a big one around the time I started paying attention to Top 40. Six singles! Phil gets some points for trying a brassy sound, but those tearjerker numbers that showcased his conscience were unpardonable crimes against music. Just watched Phil's "Hang in Long Enough" video for the first time tonight courtesy of KZbin. The guy has a gift for being crap. I agree that it's a depressing time. Not much cause for collective optimism. We'll have to take our pleasures where we can find them. (Looking forward to The Church next Saturday.) Cheers, Jacob

I've been invited to a 1990s party, refusing to wear a wig (I had hair then) someone suggested I go as Phil Collins...... Hope the church gig is up to expectation. Check your email if you haven't already. Just me waffling on.

I have that Shadows comp. It's brilliant. I like most of those cd's, but i have to say i'm not really looking forward to playin Tubular Bells II even though i did like it at the time. Most likely, as you said, has not aged well. Never were a big fan of Prince and even less so of that type of music which is the Batman, but for some reason that one is a good song. And now we clearly know where the inspiration for The Jam's Sound Affects sleeve came from. I haven't released videos because my camera broke down as i was uploading a new video on to my laptop. Was meant to buy a new camera today, but forgot to go to the store after visiting record stores. Pasi

Heippa Pasi thanks for watching. Easy mistake to make getting distracted 😄 you live in the capital area right? If you know him I heard Greengrass Records latterly in Kallio/Sornäinen has permanently closed. Tubular bells 2 yes it's a bit cheesy really. I'm not particularly into Prince either no I was too transfixed with Madonna that's my excuse.

@@Thevinylscavenger About Greengrass from what i heard, the original shop keepers alcoholism took the better of him and his child(ren) took over the shop and moved it from central Helsinki. Never visited the shop after. I did make some good finds there over the years.

@@6758pasi that's sad. Everytime I went in there he always encouraged the use of natural hallucinagetics. Probably a mistake moving though could've been rent.

Stereorrific, must be a good one. Kirpputori half a kilometer from our home have lot of old ten inc recs of city sounds from London, Leeds etc. Also dozens of Czech humour/speech vinyls. Have not bought any but kind of funny to go through. As a ten years in vc celebration you could show all your jalkapallo related albums or covers, how many do you have circa? Nice video Martin, näkemisiin.

Hi Petri, a mate is a serious collector and has tons of football records, even the oldest known one, like 1910s Glasgow Rangers versus Celtic. I have a mere drop in the ocean. All those ones sound up my street but they'd not make the journey here78s break so easily. Next Saturday should be good where I'm going, some very unusual records though unfortunately London prices but I'm hopeful let's see..... Thanks for checking in.

Thanks for the Stairs tour, you glided up em majestically. That NowTWICM1would make for a good quiz on Iains livestream, get on there. That Dif Juz, 4AD, Discogsagogo says Median £25.00, might be good for a tenner or more! That BBC sounds effects is worth it just to put it next to the Jam LP...or even Blur! I think that Shadows was part of the furniture in alot of households, it came a close second when I did my top 10 albums I sort of listened to the most but the Seekers topped it. Some good bargains there, should be resellable, McCartney did get a bit on the whimsical big$ bandwagon didn't he.. 'cannabis album' 🙄, Pet shop boys is worth a few quid! Glad to see we've moved away from Bernard Manning towards John Inman but can we avoid using the word 'shoegaze' pls. On the look out now to cash in on the Betty Boo revival (NO NO, it was @mikevinylspiral who showed it to get his 4 for £10 but I think you knew that ; ) But thanks for the shoutout! Cheers

The word shoegaze to be removed - noted. Only thing was that's the word we used for it then so what's the alternatives? Feedback & DMs?

"I'm free!" I never had the album of Tubular Bells II, but I did have a cd single of one of the tracks/movements. It had different versions of the track with different MCs who got to introduce the instruments. I think the version on the album is with Alan Rickman, then there was another with Billy Connolly as the MC, and a live recording from Edinburgh Castle with John Gordon Sinclair, who was clearly there because they couldn't get The Big Yin for the live show. You're in the sin bin for Phil Collins. I'll release you when you show the right level of remorse. Hed
