Great idea! It eliminates the worst part of doing stairs. Cutting off the bull nose
@slw042 жыл бұрын
Did you glue the riser down? If so would you glue the riser down first then put the stair nose in place? Also the second plank that connects to the stair nose how did you make it look seamless against the riser without a gap appearing between the two? Hope that my question makes sense.
@TheBlueCollarPreacher2 жыл бұрын
Did you watch the whole video?, I explained it all in detail. Thanks for watching.
@slw042 жыл бұрын
@@TheBlueCollarPreacher maybe I missed the minute mark on that part because I didn’t see you actually putting the second plank/ tread on the step that goes behind the stair nose that was glued down. You mentioned how it locks the second plank in place but that’s all I heard. The riser portion was already done in the video and you didn’t demonstrate that part or maybe I missed the demonstration. Thanks for the reply.

@@slw04 I also did not find any info on how to "snap" the second stair piece in and came to the comments to see if it was addressed. Guess not.

Great idea 👍 how far apart do you make the cuts and roughly how many ???
@TheBlueCollarPreacher9 ай бұрын
It all depends on your stair treads, most newer homes are about the same, but older homes can differ. I suggest taking some scrap pieces and experimenting first. Thanks for watching.

@@TheBlueCollarPreacher thanks for your response. I actually posted a video on my channel. In my part 8, someone commented that it will crack and it’s not safe. Whats you experience? From the feel, it seem stronger than the store bought stair nose and will last.
@TheBlueCollarPreacher Жыл бұрын
@@ronsko3753 I totally agree; I have done both for a while now, and try to convince the homeowners to use this method, but they rely on the engineers from the manufactures over my method, and end up hating it in the end. However since my video I have seen other methods on KZbin that might work better by using a router instead of a table saw that I might try next.

this looks awesome. I have seen other videos with the added nosing but don't like it because it isn't flat with the tread. This is great. Do you have any suggestions for a tread that might be open on one side with this method? For example the last 4-5 treads on my stairs is open with railing to one side so how would you do the nosing if it goes around to the side.
@TheBlueCollarPreacher2 жыл бұрын
Some manufactures make planks that interlock both ways (end to end, or end too side). I have seen it locked in a Chevron shape, you might check some flooring supply companies and tell them what you are needing to do, and they can help you out. Thanks for watching.

Awesome idea thank you for making this video. Do you have brands and or thicknesses that work best.
@TheBlueCollarPreacher3 жыл бұрын
If I could make the choice over which product I would use; I like the stuff from Lowes the best, typically I like it to be at least 1/4" thick and cut about 3mm out to form it. Thanks for watching.

The more flexible the better, but since I made this video some companies have started making stair covers, and edging, might want to check into that first. Thanks for watching.

What is the measurement for the cuts in the bottom of the boards? How did you measure that out?
@TheBlueCollarPreacher2 жыл бұрын
I made my cuts every 1/4" and 2" across, starting at 1-1/4" from the edge. Our stair treads were 1" thick, but I think it all depends on your nosing. I take a small scrap pieces and do some mock ups and experment with them first to determine what I need to make it fit the best first. Hope this helps, and thanks for watdhing.
