Vinyl Top Gone Forever!! Restoring a 1979 Camaro - Part 2

In this video we finish removing the last remaining remnants and glue residue from the vinyl top as well as starting to prep the roof for primer! We also cut out the first cut spot to begin fabricating a patch panel to weld in place which will be done in a later video!

Saw big chungus in the background,love that truck,stripping paint and scraping it is tedious work but that camaro is in really good condition for a barn find

Big chungus is finally in the shop getting fixed so hopefully we’ll have her back and running here soon!! And yeah it was in pretty decent shape for sitting so long. Not much rust at all besides the floor boards and those two little spots I’ll be taking care of in an upcoming video!

Yeah man nice car...I love Cummins and Camaro's! I have an 06 dodge 2500 2wd 48re been great. A friend of mine had a7? Camaro....Yellow.It had a 350 with auto,it would get it. GREAT VIDEO'S. You guy's make great mechanical partners

I was gonna suggest acetone but you beat me to it lol

It ended up working pretty well, better than the goof off initially, wish I started with it at the beginning

Acetone will eat through your paint worse than paint thinner but it’s good for getting graffiti off a vandalized car. It will not eat through clear coat. There’s something in the laqure that the acetone won’t soften

It removed the glue residue, green base coat, and the gray primer but it left behind the factory black sealer.. strange how that stuff worked but it did the job

That sander didn’t work because the glue gums up the sanding pad. You can used those sponge scotch brutes disc thingys that’s for a angle grinder it’ll rip right through that stuff same with rust a lot quicker than wire wheel and sand paper

I was going to try out those sponge disks but just decided to go with the chemical removal, I’ve never messed with removing a vinyl top before and now I understand why everyone hates it lol

Try some WD-40 to remove that roof glue if you’re not already done. But I guess I’m a day late and a dollar short..

Alls good Matt, I was able to get it all removed. I ended up using acetone which did the job! I tried that out towards the end of the video! I’ve never messed with a vinyl top before and now I understand why a lot of people hate working with them lol
