Floor Pan Replacement Begins! - Restoring a 1979 Camaro - Part 3

In this video we finally start doing some metal work on the camaro, we first stripped the interior out, and then fabricated up the patch pieces to weld in the passenger side! Can't wait to start on the driver's side next!

Nothing will make you prouder than saying “I did it myself”.. even if it’s not 100% perfect, practice will eventually make it perfect! I’m having a great time working on this car.. just a little bit of prep work left to go, and I can finally start piecing back together the interior and I can’t wait to share it with you guys! Seam seal over all the welding on the inside after priming spray on tar on the bottom side after cleaning up with grinder .... Keep up the good work mate ! Great video .

The welds will be under the carpet, so as long as you have it water tight who cares. You are getting it done. Are you going put some paint on the patches from under the car? The roof survived the winter nicely. I bought new carpet for my 01 Dodge 3500 and paid 500 to have it installed. You will be pleased at the difference new carpet makes.

That’s true about the welds, I’m just trying to practice with it and get them set the best I can. I got all the pin holes welded up and it’s patched pretty good for my liking. Hopefully the driver side will be a bit better lol. I will eventually get the under side welded and sealed once I get it up on a lift. I know the new carpet will completely change the interior of this old car lol! Thanks for watching!

It’s an older mig Lincoln Electric model. Not sure how old it is, my dad had it for years, and thanks! It’s Always nice having pieces of metal laying around to use for projects like this! Never know when they might come in handy lol! Thanks for watching!

What kind of paint did u end up using to brush on? Im doing a 1977 camaro and will need a new floor pan on the drivers side

I just used rustoleum red/brown rusty metal primer. It comes in a spray can or brush on.. Even though the metal is new and not rusty this has been my go to primer for jobs like this. Its also easy to top coat. I primed my grandfathers truck frame with it and it’s been sitting outside for years now and not a spec of rust returned! Hope that helps and good luck on your build! Great job. floor pans or any welding on a rusty cars suck. Definitely need to turn the heat up on those floor pans. That is why your weld is coming out so high and not flat. As far as grinding. It looks like you were starting off with a cutting wheel. EXTREMELYYYYYYY DANGEROUS to use for grinding down welds, even more dangerous without a guard. Look for a sanding pad or flap disc to grind those welds down. 80 grit will take that down right away and nice and smooth.. Keep up the good work 🍻🍻🍻 please don't use that wheel again for grinding 🙏

The best welds? They look like staggered dimes overlapping each one,don't feel bad,your a beginner w welding,when I welded stuff I used oxy/acetylene nothing like today's standards,old school,pretty good at brazing too
