Hey guys. So I finally got around to building some robots and automatrons and I think I've got the Ultimate Ranged/Assault Build for your Automatrons.

I had a very, very similar build but went with a heavy flamer instead of one of the gatling lasers. Found the flamers to be a bit in-accurate, but there's something glorious about watching hell-fire fall onto the enemy and seeing the land burn. And that's what's important, making a robot that you can look at and say "I love you (insert robot name)"

Not sure if anyone cares six years later, but an advantage to the Mr. Handy thruster is you can set the three arms to melee weapons, giving you three Voltaic armor slots for more energy damage (for a total of four with the thruster armor). Hilariously, the Protectron Automatic Lasers hit pretty damn hard too, and are surprisingly accurate (also req. Science 1). What's more, you can put armour on Protectron hands (not voltaic though, I think). So for just Science 1 and Armourer 3, you can still make a robot that has incredible armour and hits pretty damn hard with energy weapons.

Just a heads up to anyone scrolling by, but a Mr Handy with sentry arms makes for a great base for any type of build. Mr Handy bots are fast and have a long engagement range, which benefit several builds. The only real downside is that special heads, like the assaultron laser or robobrain, aren't available.

I just use mostly assultron parts with dual Gatling laser guns, with a sentry bot head, and a mix of hydraulic and voltic armors.

I use sentry bot torso because 1. usually engagements aren't long enough to make bots overheat 2. You get to pack launchers that are hard to break , or fatmans that can break but usually got the job done once it fires. I also use robobrain tracks because it is actually the fastest chassis, for some reason thrusters don't make bots go sanic, instead they float like butterflies.

@TheDB_Army Your robot is probably using assaultron legs or something. He won't overheat unless he's on sentry legs. He'll simply emit tons of steam if he has a sentry torso and non sentry legs.

To answer your question as to whether the parts are supposed to break, they are. Dismemberment is a part of the game, and enemies can do it to non unique allies. Thing is, it's much rarer, unless it's a robot. Usually, the regular NPCs are mostly immune to dismemberment unless the player does it themselves, but robots have the breaking mechanic on unstable weapons. As such, they are treated like power armor with durability. Sad thing is, there's no way to access the durability.

Yeah the "unstable" modifier makes it so that the weapon can break just from firing (2% chance per shot according to the BetterItemDescriptions mod). Regular weapons will all break if they take too much damage, but will not break from firing. The high rate of fire of the gatling laser and minigun is what makes them break much more frequently than unstable armor. It's not just the weapons that break from taking too much damage. Each armor piece and each limb has its own hit points, which are separate from the overall hit points. The armor will break off before the limb takes damage. Unstable armor has a 2% chance to break each time it gets hit, regardless of its HP. However, when it doesn't get hit, there's no chance of breakage, and even when it does, it's not getting hit at anywhere near the rate that the minigun fires.

FULL STOP. I just walked in to a camp of super mutant warlords /overlords. My new build wiped them out, including legendaries, in seconds. I have a bot named "Hangman" for hangman's alley of course... So I figured what the hell, the reaper helm perk fits the name. Set up the bot, took 'em for a spin and HOLY SHIT!!!!!!! You want to take out Mythic Deathclaws??? Try a half dozen Mythic Deathclaws. LOL - No Joke!!! Sentry head REAPER HELM - this helm is insane!!! Chose it over carnage because sifting through the gibbs sucks. Assaultron Torso - because Robobrain torso looks like straight shit. Front and Rear Voltaic Frames Left and Right Sentry Arms Left and Right Voltaic Frame on arms Left and Right hand Gatling Lasers Assaultron legs Mid Hydraulic Frame - for a defense boost Left and Right Leg Voltaic Frames. Anything, and I mean - ANYTHING will be decapitated in a blink due to the rapid hits and associated chance to decapitate.

I know all this is really old, but I just picked up the game a short time back. It appears it still holds true, this build wrecks anything I've came across so far. I didn't want to construct another bot, so I converted Ada to this build. She's an absolute beast. She kills it, I loot it. Excellent info.

I hate how the action points double at stamina in Fallout 4 it implies that the Pip-Boy is leaching energy from its user. Exiting V.A.T.S. feels like you just ran a marathon,Fallout 4's Pip-Boy is not good for your health.

You have to thing about the precision you have to have to shoot someone so precisely, it can actually easily very exhausting. Not to mention, that the gun might be heavy, meaning that you’ll be even more exhausted.

Difficulty DOESN'T affect companions!!! They always do 1 to 1 damage, regardless of difficulty.

I just think it's funny watching old videos before it was commonly known that difficulty doesn't affect anyone but the player (it applies and invisible debuff to the player that increases damage taken and reduces damage dealt). I.e., npcs treat the difficulty as "normal" at all times. I didn't know that either 6 years ago so no shade towards Puma here.

One thing I'd like to note about you saying normal gatling lasers breaking due to a glitch. That's not true. What happens is each robot part acts as a limb, so the equivalent of having a crippled arm will disable it during combat unless stimpacked. The same thing can happen with legs, etc. The thing is though, there's no way to stim a bot unless it's fully been downed (that I know of at least), but if it is downed, use a repair kit on it and the arms will continue to work. (Maybe having them hold a kit would work similar to human companions stimming themselves)

Sincerely, the best damage going alone, with 11 strong + good meele weapon + full stealth I managed to kill huge enemies in one hit or some more using VATS, but still be useless in those situations where you can't hide. Also when you want some else to do the job, it's a great build.

I did this but a sentry torso with mortars. I never get stuck in long enough to have my sentry bot overheat. Always short, crisp engagements, and if it does take a while, Chances are the enemies in the immediate vicinity are taken down already.

You know, between this and your melee bot video, you could make a decent hybrid bot. Just build this one, give it a robobrain head for range boost and replace one arm with the assaultron arm from your melee build to make a bot lethal both at range and up close.

For distance energy weaposn robot you can take the Mr Handy torso and reactor to have 3 Mr handy arms and stack the voltaïc parts to boost your damage. Nice video!

Tip:this is best for killing weaker opponents,a shishkebab using assaultron is a stronger automatron(with voltaic armor) and is perfect for one vs one,while this assaultron is better at multiple opponents.

i kept my robot pretty simple. i went with all assaultron stuff with factory armor just for the aesthetic. with a minigun on one hand and a blade on the other. really the only way i would ever pas up the assaultron laser head is for the deathclaw sentry head.

I have Robo Brain, Sentry body/arms and RoboBrain treads. I got Dual rocket pods on back and use unstable gatling laser + minigun. I made a army of them and use them as my provisioners. Walking through out the waistlands, I'm constantly seeing wars between my bots and raiders. It's freakin insane watching them just rape even the biggest monsters >:)

I know this is 4 years old, but I think that the Sentry Bot overheats because it's just *_SO DAMN POWERFUL._* It's gonna need some sort of disadvantage.

This build is good, but have you tried using the reaper helm? It allows your shots to have a chance to instantly kill any target, I used the same build but using the reaper helm and it killed a mirelurk queen by itself in 5 seconds!

With how many bullets it shoots so quickly, at least one will activate the decapitation effect and kill a deathclaw in less than a second.

Why go with the assaultron legs and not the sentry. I understand that the assaultron legs are a bit faster, but if this is a ranged build, which it is, speed does not really matter as long as the robot can engage an enemy near you.

I use a sentry head and torso, more weapons and a melee arm tends to give is a strong close attack, mine doesn't overheat much, and it tends to nuke most things before needing to purge heat. assault legs of course, gives it evade and melee rampage attack too..

I use a mod that makes all ranged weapon pieces as strong as the gatling gun. That way I can choose what I enjoy most without loosing much in stats. I also adjusted the material requirements to for fairness.

I somehow made a robot that literally one shots everything I’m pretty sure it has to do with the doom helm from the rust devils or it’s a glitch not sure

But I’ve had some problems with essential npcs like I wallbreached into the shop place on the prydwen to steal some stuff but I got caught and he oneshotted the essential npcs so now they’re walking anatomy models and I’m never going to the prydwen again

Also had issues with open season quest because he shoots once and pops off all the limbs of anything he hits but it’s a bit of a problem with protected npcs long story short had to find all the bosses heads in a huge pile of gore and hit it with a baseball bat

When I equip the voltic armor the energy damage doesn't increase. It stays at 78. I have dual Gatling lasers and full voltic armor but the damage is still 78. I even have the space monkey equipped. Tried this on Curie, Codsworths, and an automotron. I even went into different loading areas :/

Zammle I think you need to level up your big gun perk to make the laser do more damage Because leveling up any of your guns perks means it makes like enemy's weapons strong as yours like for example a pistol if you level your perk for your pistols it makes the enemy's pistols get stronger to so it's probably that just gotta level up your big gun perk to make it do more damage
