I discovered this channel earlier this year after I was diagnosed with the virus. Being on oxygen for over a month and unable to do anything for myself I promised myself if I make it I will start to do life outdoors. Healing has been a slow and difficult process but last month I hiked my very first hike of 4 miles total on Roan Mountain in Tennessee. Even though my lungs are still healing and it was difficult I pushed through. I am not going to stop! Thank you Susie and Luke for inspiring me to get out and have adventures outside.

Damn good advice Luke. I had a cousin who was also addicted and always in trouble when he was young. I had no contact with him for decades and we got together at another cousins funeral and we have been friends ever since. We were on a motor cycle ride and he told me this was his anniversary, he has been off drugs and alcohol for 10 years. I am so proud to know him now.

Luke, what you said about drugs is 100% spot on. Lost my older brother to drugs and my younger brother to alcohol, and I have a niece that is following in her father's footsteps. It is sad for the entire family. I truly enjoy your camping videos and appreciate your reviews of equipment. Peace!

Years ago, I taught at a major Southern university. The Drug Culture was just catching on. A few of my students would come to class impaired. My students included a lovely couple: he pulled out of drugs enough to continue his studies. She dropped out and worked at a fast-food place when last I saw her a couple of semesters later.

Man I’m really relating to this episode(hence 3 comments). My cousin is out there ripping & running and lost everything, after he had it all. Thank you for sharing that with us and showing us that when you find your true passion in life, you find purpose. Each day becomes a joyful experience even if it gets difficult at times. I know how bad my cousin has it right now and how miserable he must be. I found my purpose and passion which is Art. May we keep our heads above water and our noses out of trouble. Camp on my brotha!

Another video request: I have come to love a 16“ x 10 tarp. You can literally do so many great setups, you typically think you could only do with a square tarp - but you can use half of it to have a ground sheet :) diamond setup, A frame, flying A frame, C frame, pyramid and much more. I noticed that almost nobody uses rectangular tarps, but I do not see why. Could you please try a rectangular tarp and show some of the setups you do with your 10“x10“ but use a portion of the tarp as ground sheet? :)

Luke, I appreciate your story about your cousins. In 2007, my 17 year old daughter was killed in a car crash. The guy driving was high on weed that was laced. In the car he was driving was his girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat and was killed on impact and my daughter was in the back seat; she was ejected and in a coma for 5 days and ultimately secumed to her injuries. I have 3 other kids and I pray every day that, as they go through their teen years, they stay far away from that crap. It destroys people's lives and their families lives too. Thank you for sharing your camping trips. Congrats on the cabin. Can't wait to see it!!

A great camp Luke. There is nothing like a camp in stormy conditions, it is easy to camp only when the weather is good, but well prepared and in a storm, nothing beats it. Nature and peace, irreplaceable. I hope for your family that your cousin sees sense soon, and thanks for sharing. All the very best from London.

excellent video! Two stories, the first: Years ago (around 40) My wife and I went backpacking on the Black Forest Trail in Pennsylvania (AKA The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania...important later. We got a late start, one delay after another. We got to the trail head mid afternoon. We thought we had time to make it to our campsite so off we went Merrily DOWN the trail. Once under the forest canopy, we lost light faster than expected. Half way to the campsite found us in total darkness! we used a flashlight wo find the blazes marking the trail and a small camping Gaz lantern to light our way otherwise. we finally reached our campsite, pitched the tent and fell into bed too exhausted to cook supper. I had neglected to make note of those small squiggles on the map called contour lines and how close together they were. In the dark we did not appreciate the total drop in elevation. The next morning we could hardly move. When we climbed out of the tent we just stood there staring at the trail that went up, up, up, higher up this mountain that we had apparently hiked down the night before :O :( We decided that if we waited a day we would only be stiffer so we packed up our stuff and hiked right back out. It took us all day. Once we reached the top we dropped our packs and hiked to the car, drove it down the service road to pick up our packs and went to find a hotel for the night! One with a bath tub and hot water! Second story: As relayed to me by a friend. He and his wife were RV camping at some RV campground. An RV pulls in to the site next to them. As the newcomer is setting up, my friend notices them attach some large loudspeakers to the roof of the RV. Oh no, here comes the music he thinks. But as the day progressed, no music from the neighbors. Just other more distant(thankfully) campsites. About 10PM the newcomers turn in. About 45 to 60 minutes later, was that a distant wolf howl? Can't be sure, too much noise from campers. After a while another, closer. Slowly more howls, more often...and even closer. Sounds like more than one wolf. My friend kept listening intently, growing a bit more anxious. Finally a voice says "it's just a recording folks, good night. Then my friend realizes, the ENTIRE camp has gone silent!

You are Blessed to do what you do. A lot of people that don't like camping or going fishing or hunting have no idea what it's like and the peacefulness that comes with it when you rough it not an RV or a great big camper bus a tent how to start a campfire how to set up camp there's a lot going on just to do that and you got to love it because when you're done with all the hard work you sit back just like you're doing and listen to the beauty of Silence. I've been doing it a lot longer than you have I'm 73 years old and I still love it and I have only 10 acres but when I'm out here it is so quiet thank God because I'm the only one that lives here I'm out in the boonies in the forests there are pigs Bears deer you name it it's out here and the stars at night when it's clear is gorgeous you just look at the creation God has created for mankind and he has many mansions and I sit back and just enjoy it and it makes you really concentrate your mind gets to relax and think rationally.

I do enjoy watching your videos for nature and the practical things you share. Thank you.

We have an abundance of wildlife where we live. New scenery every day. We also walk / hike every day to the lake, river through the woods in our neighborhood and is always relaxing and a bit of a reset.

Thank you for the additional thought on addiction. I have been clean for two years and I have realized that my actions and drug use doesn't just affect me but everyone around. Praying for your brother to come back clean. Ps love your content.

I camped last weekend and was lucky enough to get heavy rain on 2 nights and a thunderstorm on one 😀 I loved this video! I have a fair bit of wildlife around me but always marvel at a beetle or moth that I've not seen before. Nature is a great healer. You're so lucky to have Suzie to share your passion - I love the videos with Suzie too. Stay safe and living your best life both ❣️x

I appreciate and agree with your comments about not even starting with any drugs. You don’t hear many messages like that anymore. Our school used to have a DARE program but gave it up years ago. I know you just want the best for your viewers and your family members so thanks for all you do and say.

OMG, at the start, This brought back memories of me and a friend walking through the northern Ontario woods at night , I hated it as the forest felt like it was closing in on me scary don't know how you did that, Yikes . I guess with me it is the unknown of what is out there , watching me such as bears and Moose in my case . you and Susie are blessed to have Loan Wolf mountain. I am with you having no people beside or around to close. Awesome set up you had. Well toy haulers are nice congratulations and what a place or it to be . epic shots of the clouds wow. what another awesome adventure that we could join you on .

If you've ever read A Wrinkle In Time; I think the brain "IT" thing is the perfect metaphor for addiction. Kids, myself included, never really understand the danger with just words, lecturing. Seeing a really, really smart kid (in the book) think he can out think this Thing, but then just get wrecked really shook me. I'm fortunately one of the people who can smoke and have no desire to do anything harder, and I still agree with you. It's so much better for young people to approach with the overall philosophy of "just don't". Any sort of desire to escape reality with a substance leads down a dark, dark path. You seem to actually 'get it' in terms of actually wanting to help people conquer their demons, versus a lot of people who seem to lecture (if I didnt know any better) out of a need to control people. Thanks for being a real one.

Hi Luke! I think you and I are the only two nuts who actually like gulleywasher storms. I think I only get worried when I am driving and can't see two feet in front of me. Have you thought of carving a small trench around the tarp area for rain diversion. It may help keep things dryer. Thanks for taking us along. 🇺🇸

House works perfectly the way you express your feelings for what you feel and see from your perspective, when I started this video, and you showed us the beaten pathway, the music helped me feel as remote as the beaten path itself. Slowly beats of the drone driving upwardly to show the patches of mountain fog was awesome too. Right on, keep experimenting!✊🏻🏜🏕

Hi Luke, thank you for the adventure! I'm always buying gear based on your reviews. What type of "rope" light are you using in this video? Is it Big Agnes or another brand? Listening to the storm was very peaceful. It's been a very cold June in the Pacific Northwest so hearing temps in the 60s for night was awesome! I live in the mountains also and I agree with you, there's nothing better. Glad you shared your family story with the young viewers, I believe young people look up to you and you have a way to influence people in an inclusive friendly manner. And glad you and Suzie get out for hikes together. Looking forward to seeing the toy hauler on a new adventure!
