As much as I hate with a burning passion the phrase "As a vet", but as a Vet this series hit me in the right place at the right time in my life. The only anime I watch is Gundam but I was recommended Violet Evergarden by a friend and man it was really a show that I needed in a low part of life when I was about to get out. Great video man

I didn't care much for Violet Evergarden, though I did really enjoy the animation and music. That said, you highlighted a very important point--how one receives something depends very much on where they were at the time. I'm glad to hear this anime helped you through a difficult time in your life.

I love this anime so much. Sure, it isn't my favorite anime, I don't like it nearly as much as Fate/Zero or Ping Pong, let alone Hunter × Hunter or Berserk, but it holds a special place in my heart. It's the anime that taught me that anime could be art. Without it, I don't think I would've went on to appreciate manga like Berserk or Vinland Saga nearly as much.

When I watched it, I very rarely got emotional. I honestly at points paused the show and tried to open my eyes wider, focus harder, in order to see what everyone loved so much about it. Through some scene's, I realized a bit of that, and now I can't say it's my favorite, but it certainly is an amazing piece. I'd never gotten the value of being honest, but after thinking about how such a concept relates to even the art of the show, I'm glad to say I'm a bit more impressed, and a bit more thankful for the show than I was before. Thanks.

I disagree. Violet Evergarden is perfect, given sincerity is a pillar of Japanese values it’s not being melodramatic but sincere. Are the fight scenes out of place? No as they remind everyone of violet’s past
I know no one will agree with me, but I can't stand Violet Evergarden. Mediocrity offends me, so hearing this show being praised for anything other than its visuals fills me with pangs of cringe. Paper-thin characters get entire episodes focusing on them (Violet's coworkers). The plot that goes nowhere. The show refers to typists as 'auto memory dolls'. It takes Violet 9 episodes to figure out Gilbert died despite Claudia all but blurting it out to her & the audience, 3 times, in the first 6 minutes of episode one. The narrative's compulsive need to broadcast what going to happen long before it happens (gilbert's death, the soldier's death, the girl & her sick mom). The show has a grounded, realistic, historical 1910s setting that doesn't acknowledge or explain why Violet has the strength of 10 men & can jump 50ft in a single bound, why she's the only person with robot limbs despite all the other wounded veterans, or where the robot arms even came from. Violet, more often than not, doesn't solve other people's problems so much as she provides a blank wall for people to vent their problems to until they decide to finally deal with the issue. The answer always being either 'accept what they already know' or 'talk honestly to others'. Forgive me if I don't find such exaggerated melodrama engaging. But the thing I hate the most is how naked the manipulation is. This show doesn't have characters to explore or a story to tell; they're surface level vehicles designed solely to manipulate the audience into feeling emotional. As if the audience will forgive any flaw so long the show can get them to tear up. I can't help feeling gross watching Violet Evergarden. That said, there were parts of the show I did like. The princess made episode 5 watchable and it was great to hear someone actually acknowledge how pointless it is to send someone a love letter (what Violet does in most episodes) if you don't write it yourself. I also empathized with the playwriter who lost his daughter. Benedict is a joy to watch because he has an actually character arch. He's also the only character who has a life outside of their on-screen appearances. Between episodes he goes on dates with an office girl, becomes best friends with the older postman, breaks his leg in motorcycle accident, was familiar with Claudia prior to joining the company (notable b/c Claudia's a rich noble & Benedict's a commoner). No other main or supporting character has as much off-screen development or even to have an implied existence beyond what we see in the show. The people Violet meets all get a 'where are the now' scene in the las episode, but I mean more than a one-off update on a character.

if it offends you that someone likes something Id say you need to rethink your priorities. also a lot of your criticisms especially in your first paragraph simply dont hold up. it seems like you missed the whole point of the show. not all series need deep characters. just look at Romeo and Juliet as an example. its characters are all very surface level and it is widely regarded as one of the best pieces of literature to this day. not to mention many of your points are nitpicks if anything. there is nothing wrong with typists being called auto memory dolls or the fact that there are robot limbs in the setting. wanna know why. cause its fiction. it doesnt need to line up with our reality. fiction is allowed to have fantastical elements to it in case you didnt know. and as for the part about Violet being a wall for people to vent to. thats kinda the point. some people just need someone to be there so they can talk about their feelings. sometimes the best thing you can do for someone is merely listen. I serve this role with my friends a lot and that part is actually a very realistic aspect to it cause sometimes other people cant just solve your problems. you need to. and sometimes to realize what you need to do you just need someone to talk to. now the show is far from perfect but its certainly not nearly as bad as you are making it out to be. and if you dont like it ok. but there really isnt a need to get offended by it cause other people like something you dont.

Honestly the fact that the only episode of the show that elicited any kind of emotion beyond 'eh that was a decent episode' in me just so happened to use a type of plot line I'm a sucker for is what cemented this show into the waste of time bin. It's Oscar bait in anime form, and nothing more.

The plot is not the main focus of the show...
@kyletimmons29404 жыл бұрын
@@kenmarkollano5795 Correct. To the story's detriment, Violet is the focus. The sad thing is that I love the character type Violet represents; the stoic, battle-hardened veteran who can't socialize well. They provide great chances for both action with their battlefield experiences and comedy as they often don't understand/ are misunderstood by others. They're not particularly deep or interesting characters but they're great because they do interesting things & provide unmovable support for others. They're great as secondary characters or one member of a large main cast . Not so much when the sole focus, and especially in a shallow soap opera. My problem with Violet is that she is this character archetype but doesn't DO anything. That, and the story doesn't allow for situations to exploit her natural strengths, explore her history & circumstances, or learn more about the world. Save for one or two instances, she doesn't help people solve their problems. She provides a blank wall for people to talk their problems out until they come to a conclusion themselves. I'd personally like to know why Violet is such an incongruous with her own story. This a realistic world with no magic or super-science, yet in strength and speed she's basically a Power Ranger. Why are there fully functioning robot prosthetics in a 1910's story, why is Violet the only one who get's them, and why is no one shocked at this crazy level of tech? At most some characters are surprised that she's a double amputee, but not at the arms themselves. The series isn't internally consistent and there was a better story that could have been told with this setting. The studio cared more about manipulating the audience through visuals than it did it's character & story writing. It's a mass of wasted potential and the excessive adulation it receives for what little it does is bewildering.
