Hi Meg! I played violin and cello in kindergarten and first grade, but then I moved schools. I never had the option to pickup strings again until now as an adult. I have a performance degree on flute and I'm really looking forward to using your videos to practice everything properly on violin. Great job on your production! It's really hard and you're doing it!

Hi. I have just bought a violin. Nothing fancy. It has no shoulder rest. It only came with bow and the chin rest in the case. Is the shoulder rest imperative to begin to learn with?
@MusicwithMeg
@MusicwithMeg 3 жыл бұрын
No, you can definitely get started without one. Shoulder rest is really only for comfort. If you begin to find it uncomfortable without, you can use a cloth or sponge on your shoulder instead.

You don't need a shoulder rest. The shoulder rest is just for you to feel more comfortable when you put the violin on your shoulder.

Hey meg I am having trouble with the first step the violin is always falling when I try to let go of the violin is it because I don't have a shoulder rest or im doing something wrong?
@MusicwithMeg
@MusicwithMeg 2 жыл бұрын
It should be held in place between your chin and your shoulder, you may find you need to press down a bit more with your chin if you don't have a shoulder rest.

A shoulder rest isn't essential, it's more for comfort than anything else. Many beginners start without one and get one later down the line. If you're finding the violin uncomfortable, you can use a small cloth or thin sponge under the instrument to help.
