Hi, Alice! Here’s a censor patient / a viola beginner across the globe. I’m not a native English speaker so I was kinda shy to leave a comment, but your positive personality and your videos always cheer me up. Thank you.

Trombonists have a related skin condition you could call “trombone neck”, due to allergic reactions to the neck pipe/valve rubbing against the skin of the neck. It’s not too common with new instruments (because the lacquer protects the skin while the lacquer is intact) but it’s very frequent with older horns. And if you wear a wing-collar shirt with your tux, it will come home with gross green (if your neck pipe is brass) or green-black (if it’s nickel-silver) or black (if it’s silver-plated) marks on your shirt. The usual solution is to mount a leather guard over the pipe, or wrap some bicycle handlebar tape around it. The handlebar tape trick works well for straight horns, but not so well for tenors with an F or basses. The leather guards are really unsightly, and kills whatever “cool” factor you might have left after being a trombonist. I tried draping a microfiber cloth over it, and had the same problem you had-it works while you’re playing, but is an epic FAIL in rehearsal and performance. (And that’s worse for us than it is for the wire choir: little known trombonist secret-we study for the CPA and/or actuarial exams when we’re accounting rests, and we usually have lots of time to study!) I’m going to look into the scar sheets though. That may be the perfect solution-attach them to the horn and forget them for six months or a year. By the way, is that a mandolin or a mandola on the stand behind you? All we can see of it is the head plate and I can’t tell.

Maybe a niche topic but a really good one. Not a topic you’d find just anywhere. I really like all of your posts; I share both chronically issues that you talk about - so really appreciate it! THANK YOU!!! 🎻🎶🎶

this isnt related to this video but i wanted to say, since you have autoimmune desieses. but i dont know about autoimmune diseases. but i would try bioresonance. if you like? it sounds boogy woogy but it doesnt seem to be :P it's been used in europe for ages but it's not overly common in where i live. but there was a man from germany and he was wondering where the medicine was. i would recommend it. the first time i went, it temporarily completely fixed one of my problems. and they give you medicine to keep that progress. enjoy your week, love :)

Hi, I've been using Cica Care. It's nice, but keeps falling off in between playing when I take my violin off my chin. Any way to prevent that? Or should I use a Strad Pad?
@ChronicallyMusical7 ай бұрын
I will say I do struggle with the same issue, it doesn't stay on that well while playing but it does help! Recently I've been using chamois while I play and then the cica care at night when I sleep and that is a good combo for me. The strad pad wasn't for me, but I know a lot of people use them!

@@ChronicallyMusical Thanks! Does Chamois or Cica Care get absorbed into the skin and bloodstream? Also does Chamois protect the skin from irritation while playing?
@ChronicallyMusical6 ай бұрын
I don’t believe either gets absorbed anywhere as they are not creams or liquid or anything? But I’m not a medical professional so don’t quote me! The chamois is basically a suede cloth you can cut to whatever size you want and place on your chin rest before you put your chin/neck down to play. I find it really helps when my neck is super inflamed!
@AK-os9mj Жыл бұрын
Have you played violin using that cloth before in tip 4?
@ChronicallyMusical Жыл бұрын
I haven’t personally but you can absolutely use a cloth on violin! I also have been using a chamois cloth lately that really helps.
@AK-os9mj Жыл бұрын
@@ChronicallyMusicalThank you for the reply, but instead of using a chamois cloth why don't you try a thick microfiber cloth and cover the chinrest just like Hilary Hahn?
@ChronicallyMusical Жыл бұрын
I don’t like how the thicker clothes affect the sound of my instrument. But everyone is different!

Wear a turtle neck
@ChronicallyMusical7 ай бұрын
Unfortunately turtle necks aren't super comfy for me to play in and they also don't go high enough, but I appreciate the suggestion!
