I just wish I could express to you how your tutorials are helping me. I am 52 and started violin lessons when I was 11. There were always things that didn't feel correct with my left hand, vibrato and bow arm. I studied under Eastman school of music graduates and still was not resolving some of my issues. Your method of breaking down left hand placement and the proper use of the bow arm has helped me more than my years of instruction. My teachers would say, "but you play beautifully". However, I could internally feel that something wasn't quite right and you have addressed my trouble areas. If I could give you a hug, I would. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me!!

Welcome back professor - as an adult beginner I find your insights invaluable. If you have any exercises that compensate for double-jointed pinkie finger locking during bowing they would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much for your posts - they help my learning far more than anything else I have access to.

Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of this exercise and how do we apply it in a piece?
@ViolinClassUSA3 жыл бұрын
The purpose is to know the bow (as the title says). What every part of the hand/arm/each finger do in each small section of the bow is most important for musical expression. You cannot utilize the bow at 100% if you do not know how you work in every inch/centimeter of it.
