OMG thank you for including dietitians! Also thanks for explaining how Dietitians and Nutritionists are different! The majority of the public don't really understand that part. It would have been really cool to see the dietitian perform the NFPE (Nutrition Focused Physical Exam) to see how she came to the conclusion that the patient was malnourished but overall it was great!

I have cerebral palsy, and due to several episodes of uncontrolled postoperative pain/bad doctor experiences as a teenager, I developed PTSD. I HATE hospitals, I can't even smell that institutional disinfectant smell without having a flashback. I’m also a clinical dietitian (in the Netherlands) and this video is pretty accurate and relatable. The multidisciplinary consultation is so important in these situations. It’s nice to see how this works in Canada. A lot of people think that dietitians only treat people who are obese, but it’s so much more than that! In fact, the most patients I treat are malnourished. Treating these patients, who also often have a cormobidity that you have to take into account, is very challenging!

This is amazing! I am a brazilian registered dietitian, currently on a two-year multi-professional residency program in Cardiopneumology and I absolutely LOVE this kind of interaction. In my context, sometimes it is still hard to break the barriers between doctors and other health professionals, since we still have a cultural unspoken hierarchy "system" between the different professions, but little by little this is changing. Interdisciplinary work is absolutely crucial for the patient and amazing for our learning process. Always enriching. Love this, love this!

I’m currently a first year SLP completing my CF, and I miss the hospital setting so much. During my internship prior to graduation, I worked in a rehab hospital with a great deal of patients with dysphagia. I completely agree with the shakes and “ice cream” desserts tasting great, but a lot of my patients were simply discouraged about not being able to eat regular foods and drink thin liquids at the moment/anymore. It was tough for them to come to terms with their new normal and the only way they could drink their morning coffee was with two packets of thickener in it. At that point, it just doesn’t feel the same in their mouth especially if they already have sensory deficits. Not to mention, puréed macaroni and cheese or turkey and gravy doesn’t look appetizing. I found that just acknowledging their struggles really helped their buy-in to trying the thickened liquids and our swallowing exercises and strategies.

If drinking the feeds by mouth pour them over ice! I’ve found my patients tolerate them SO much more if they are super cold. Great video! I’ve always been fascinated by SLP as I worked with babies and small children post cardiac surgery with lots of swallowing struggles and their assessments seemed like magic haha.

I was 40 in March. I had a cryptogenic stoke on March 11th, 2019. I was in the ICU in Barrows Desert in Phoenix for 7 days. I, luckily, had a thrombectomy that saved my life. I’m now back to work part time and only my speech is impaired now. (Most won’t notice my speech impediment). I couldn’t swallow at first. I had suppositories for medication. My swallowing and physical deficits can back fast, but it was the thrombectomy. I understand how crippling this life could be. I pray for your patient and love your videos! I’ve now had 5 surgeries. Loop recorder implant, PFO closure, endometrial ablation, and cardiac ablation within 4 months. It was sad and chaotic. I’m so glad to be back to my normal life (mostly).

I really wish I had a doctor like you! I went to a overcrowded emergency room for bad drug withdrawals. The entire process was just miserable. You seem so personable and kind.
