I went to a music camp where the violas (inspired by that peice) in our orchestra got everyone to scream at a certain point in a peice, this gave our conductor a mini heart attack it was the funniest thing ever

The slapping of the mouthpiece actually makes a cool sound. Ask a brass player to do it to you.

I am late to the party here, but the Widmanns viola concerto is one of the strongest piece of music in any genre I have had the pleasure of listen to the last couple of years. Maestro Tamestit is a true virtuoso on his chosen instrument. Widmann is a seriously exciting composer. I hope this concerto inspires more composers to create more for the viola, since it is obvious it is under utilized as a solo instrument. A destiny it shares with its cousin the double bass.

2:39 correction: That is not an 'Alto flute', which is in straight shape, it is a 'Bass flute', which has a curved head joint(+ massive size of an instrument)

+ fun fact! 1. on the score, Mr. Widmann specifies the location of the music stands where the solo violist should walk to, and the routes for the journey. 2. the 'SCREAMING' part is NOT notated on the score, rather as 'the highest note on the A-string'. Maybe Mr. Tamestit added them for theatrical reasons.

A much better take on this piece than Twosetviolin. Then again, they raised an army of classical snobs, so it’s not like I expected them to have anything good to say about this piece
