In this video we look at the ViparSpectra aquarium light. Right out of the box i was impressed with this product. the packaging was excellent so rest assured that your light will make it safety to yea.
Looking at what's included you will see a hanging kit, remote light and power cord. The hanging kit is really easy to install. with the light only weighing 7 pounds you can hang the light off of a single hook.
This light is an 8 band 2 channel high intensity led light. We put it under our par meter and found that if was throwing so really high readings. each channel was showing a Par of400 per channel with a total in excess of 800 at 12-inch depth at 8 inches above the water.
Another test we did was checking the voltage draw. So running it like i am currently it only uses about 10 watts. At full power, we see that it pulls103 watts. So that is a lot of light for 103watts.
The last test we put out was a temp test. this Light was at max temp 42C directly on the bottom glass where the top frame was only reading 37C. This tells us that the aluminum heat sink is really doing a great job in the cooling
I would like to thank Austin from 420 reefkeepers for allowing us to use the photos of his corals
Thank you all for watching, Have a great day.

Thanks so much for this I have the same light and I have the whites on during the day and the blues on in the evening. I never thought to run both the blues and whites at the same time.

i have two for my reef tank. ive had one randomly stay off regardless of programming had to turn off and back on again before it resumed normal schedule and the other one stayed on and had to do the same thing. both lights have only done it once in two years of owning them and i havent touched the light schedule once since initial set up. other than that theyve done great, my soft corals are doing amazing, my duncan went from 4 heads to like twelve that i can see in one year, havent tried sps corals yet but i think it will be adequate. they have a high par rating but i was told the usable par for corals isnt that good.

Great info thanks. I use one of these lights over a reef tank, I was wandering if you know what the par of just channel 1 is at 100% as 100% on both would kill most corals plus that high with white it wouldn't look right for the coral colours. Most people from what I have heard run near 100%blue and only 1%white. I think for the price of them they work fantastic for both marine and freshwater just dependant on which channel you crank up.

I agree, i would love to see the par testing on just the channel 1, so we can get an idea on the ranges. Ideally if you could lift it to the recommended 12 inches for max range that would also be helpful since we can see the max capabilities for larger tanks

Once your light is setup, have you found a way to bypass the auto settings to turn either channel on manually? I was working on my tank and needed the blues. Outside of changing the time, I found no way to doing this (should be easy to do) task.

No i don't think you can or at least I have not found a way to bypass it. It can be a pain you're right, I am not sure why they did that.
