Dude I can’t even tell u how glad I am to find smone who agrees w me on the hand bent track thing. I haven’t ridden Viper, but I know on Magnum, it makes for some of the BEST laterals I’ve ever felt anywhere. I like car 6 row 1 while u exit the turnaround. You get pulled down the spiral and pressed to the right, and then all of a sudden the turn snaps open, and your hanging on your side getting some wicked laterals to the LEFT. I very much want to ride Viper in the next year or two, if it closes before I get there I’d feel like I failed my life’s purpose. Anyway, thanks for the video, gives this wonderful ride some love. And just the sheer size of it too, like, wtf? They take it up that huuuuge hill, pull you to 70mph, but the loops are still MINUSCULE it’s historical I love it

I’m 6’ 3” and have to slouch uncomfortably to fit into the restraints, but I still really like this thing. It’s intense and runs remarkably smooth for a massive Arrow looper. Vest restraints would make it even better.

It *used* to run rather smooth. Last time I rode it, this August, I felt like I was at actual risk of injury. Probably didn't help that it was near the end of a hot day tho.

I’m about 5’10 and I never had any issue with this after learning the leaning forward method. I love this ride and always go on it. This is my home park that I live 20 mins away from it and I often come to the park on off days after the gym and when I don’t have work I just to go on this and x2 multiple times in a row. I hope they don’t remove it honestly.

Got to ride it for the first this past Tuesday and it tbh it isn't as bad as people say. Sure, it can get pretty rough and jerky in some areas, especial during the corkscrews and trims, but if you don't try and look for the roughness you might just see how fun the ride actually is

This is a great review of Viper!!! I rode it when it was new. I waited 2 hours in line for it, and it was worth the wait!! Viper was the largest and fastest coaster in the park all through the early 90’s. It had the world’s highest vertical loop for 9 years. It ran pretty fast during the first half of the ride before they added the trim brakes. Viper is still a good ride it just needs new trains! Excellent review!!!

Team Love. Front row going into the midcourse tries to eject you so you might land on X2 next door. Intense, rough, and a classic. Was running great this summer. I think it runs better and less janky in the heat. Even got my two kids saying they liked this summer which was a first for them.

Viper will forever be one of my faves. I was in 9th grade when it was built, and can remember waiting in lines that stretched down to the Carousel. Me & my Crew made a ritual out of posing for the photo every time we went. I hope they never tear it down, and it simply becomes a SFMM legend like it's older brothers Goldrusher, Colossus, Revolution, and Ninja. Crazy now, knowing those are the four oldest coasters in the park.

It's interesting reading the comments. I think MM has done a remarkable job at keeping this ride maintained through the years. Most of these were pretty much unbearable towards the end of their life. I would be open to see what Chance could do with this ride (Ala Phantom's Revenge) or if Vekoma could bring up to date.

Finally got a chance to ride Viper back in August! I was insanely excited get on the ride because of how iconic it is. I’ve always heard mixed things about it from people. I still don’t know how I feel about it.. It was more intense than I was expecting, but not unbearable. There were definitely some rough moments on the head. For me, it was the second vertical loop and the transition into the corkscrew, but I was expecting the latter. In the back row, I surprisingly enjoyed the final drop after the straight track 😂 I did have a slight headache after the ride, which makes Viper a one-ride-per-visit type of coaster for me. I can definitely see why people love it. My experience on Viper was bittersweet in a way. On one hand, I got to ride a coaster I’ve been dreaming about riding for 20+ years. On the other hand, I knew I wasn’t going to be able ride again for a long time because it’s difficult to get out there. Regardless, I’m hoping the next time I visit Six Flags Magic Mountain, Viper will still be standing tall at the park!

Living fairly close to magic mountain I have ridden Viper countless times since I was tall enough to do so. This ride is as rough as people describe it or more. That is exactly why it’s one of the best for some like me, and the worst for others. It completely depends on how you embrace and prepare for the way the ride throws you around. If you know the layout and brace yourself against the oncoming forces you will rarely hit the shoulder restraints and Viper will be an absolute beast of intensity unspoiled by pain. I got to ride it 5 times in a row once, with almost no stop in the station, and I was completely fine by the end. If you’re unfamiliar with Viper and especially a new rider, I can definitely understand the dislike of this ride. Even one ride will definitely cause ear pain, and possibly a headache. For this reason I would definitely agree with the idea of possibly putting this as a double black diamond, as you not only need to enjoy and understand the roughness, but also have knowledge of the track layout to truly get the best experience possible.

Great review ! So glad you did an in depth dive into this serpent 🐍. I love this ride . Have that being said I understand peoples issues with this ride but it can’t always be out with the old in with the new. Truly as you mentioned in the beginning of the video this ride is the only one left of its kind with shock wave and great American scream machine gone. And I grew up with great American scream machine great adventure was my home park growing up and boy oh boy did that ride get amazingly rough. So if you think this ride is rough GASM would be considered beyond torture then. Viper feels like an old ride but in a good way not painful. Rides arnt always gloss smooth, they let you know they are there and where they have been. And I love that about viper. It’s one of the classic arrow rides at the park and I really think magic mountain hands down has the best collection of arrow rides . And if you can’t appreciate arrow rides then you have no sense of history and appreciation of who laid the track work to where we are now for coasters( pun intended) . Im glad this ride is here. I love it it’s not the best of anything or amazing but it’s a classic and should never be talked about as a waste of a great plot in the park. I’m not very tall and what bothers me about the seating is the very odd back arch the seats give. It’s like a bulge in the seat arching your mid back . It’s not the best but it’s old I get it. I like the history and character this ride brings along with its intensity . I get it if it’s not your cup of tea, there are plenty of other teas in the park to sip on . So don’t hate on viper . The logo I also love and reminds me of the Togo viper I rode growing up at great adventure ! Snake on viper !!

I've always wanted to ride this coaster ever since I saw it on that old VHS roller coaster tape "Here Comes A Roller Coaster!" in 1994. My home park is Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL. I remember riding Viper's sister, Shockwave many times when it was around (RIP). I've done all roller coasters at SFGAm, and I even did all the great roller coasters at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio in 2018!!!! If I ever get a chance to visit SFMM then Viper will be the first thing I hit!!! I want a great intense coaster to start my day!!! :)

i really wish i could enjoy these arrow loopers but I'm a tall guy with back problems so they've never been enjoyable for me... Im forced to slouch in these things which just makes me dying to get off after the first drop. I'd love for the remaining arrows to get some new restraints/ trains if parks are looking to keep them around for their full lifespan.

Thankfully I’m just below the threshold, so I don’t have to slouch, but new otsr’s would definitely be more accommodating!

It's a little "rough & gruff", and it's seats let you know it's old, but it offers a great bumpy thrill that's awesome because it's lines are shorter than some others. We took it several times, because it's got the thrills. I don't know what "number" I'd put on it, it's not their top ride, but, if you're OK with a little bumpy ride, it's definitely worth a go, or several. Definitely recommended it. Like he said, easy quick access.. and shorter lines since it's not their "top attraction" any more. It's 70 mph top speed feels like more than that. Yeah, it's old & not as fast as some newer rides, but, do it.

I can deal with pain and discomfort, but this was the worst coaster I have ever been on in comparison to body pains.

@michaelbianco323 жыл бұрын
I rode this 70 times this year, and I don't have any experience with how it ran in previous years. My only recommendations are to hold on tight, and ALWAYS keep your head firmly pressed back during the main three loops. The shaping of them is not great, and will force your head down or back into the headrest hard, depending on how forward you're holding yourself. The first drop, I would say head forward, though the cars are jostling side-to-side enough that it'll be somewhat unpleasant for a second at the base of the drop no matter what. Head forward again right before the trims after the first loop (and then bring your head back during that turn around), and then after the MCBR just head forward a bit and hold yourself as stable as possible to counteract the main transitional bumps, particularly the exit of the batwing, entrance to the corkscrews, and final s-drop under the lift.

I find it very enjoyable and it brings back lots of memories, since the ride is just as old as I am! 😆 It's very sad that many crybabies have given up on this awesome piece of machinery, and as a result it may well lead to it's demise. I make sure to ride it more than once every time I visit the park (once rode it 7 times) I think Six Flags should give it a second lease at life, maybe rework it a bit to make it more suitable for all these crybabies, while keeping the train design intact which looks really classic and awesome in my opinion.
