This is a video showing you how to strip a technics 1200/1210 back to its face plate.
The reason for doing something like this is either to pain the face plate or to replace it, in either case stripping the turntable back to the face plate is required.
Just as an experiment I phoned my local electronics repair shop to get a quote on how much he would charge to do this and he said 20 quid setup charge 40 quid to strip it and 60 quid to put it back together 120 QUID !!!!!!! Thats like 170 dollars I could buy a second hand turntable for that alternatively 85 quid to simply change the face plate thats like 120 dollars, so you are defiantly saving a bomb by doing this yourself.
Its not massively difficult you just have to have your head screwed on and pay close attention to where all the bits went, if you think about it the main circuit board, the power circuit board, and the transformer are all joined so youre not going to put them back in the wrong place and you know where the tone arm goes and the pitch fader, and if you have ever switched on a technics turntable you will know where the power switch is, so you cant really go wrong.
Information.
When soldering on these turntables especially the older models leaded solder is normally used so keep your soldering tip clean after soldering, and mind your fingers because sometimes leaded solder can bubble and it spits and itll burn your fingers.
This link is for more detail on removing the screws from the bottom of the turntable the bit you want is at about 3:18:
• replacing audio cables...
If you want to wash your face plate you will probably want to get rid of the nasty thermal compound from under the voltage regulator, to get rid of it wipe off as much as you can with an old rag any leftover try a damp cloth make sure you get rid of as much off the voltage regulator its self as you can, once you have removed it all you will have to replace it after when you come to put the turntable back together, so got to your local computer shop and get some computer CPU thermal compound, it will do the same job, its non acidic and it will have a higher temperature rating so itll be more affiant and less messy.
Warnings.
Always unplug the turntable form the mains before attempting any repairs.
If you dont feel confident at soldering the mains cables than ether get someone you know is or get a qualified electrician to do this part for you, I am not going to recommend you do this if you dont feel confident you can do it.

A very big thank you viperfrank just stripped an old 1210 painted it and somehow managed to put it all back together again using these video's as my guide. To my surprise it works even with my fists of ham i pulled it off. When i first found out everything has to come off in the first vid my heart plummeted to my boots but after watching all four vids they gave me the confidence to have a go and i'm so glad i did.I did get into trouble once with the power assembly so went over to that vid by viperfrank and sorted that out to.Thanks again James brilliant clear concise vids easy to follow keep up the good work.

@pinoydrunknboxer hi there sorry for the late reply. if you mean the gimble (the bit at the back of the tone arm) than I would be very careful and I definitely wouldn't take that apart. there are LOADS of TINY bearings in there and they fall out every wear. even if you did manage to put it all back together they need calibrating witch requires special tools, the easy way is to do it with a brush but very carefully. sorry this isn't what you wanted to hear. thanks for your comment nice one!!!

Now i'm in the process of stripping mine to bits in order to do a custom paint job but i have thought of every step before i do so and one thing i encountered is the lettering on the TT's how does one paint the unit but stil keep the letters ? hi viperfrank, i replaced my old 1200 top with a 1210 top i did find the newer top had less screw holes for the inner base plate and only one screw hole for the power circuit board. the new top had a sticker stating it had been changed from the original, so if anyone getting a new / newer (prob 2005 onwards) top dont be worried if you have a couple screws left over
