Not bragging, but I own upwards of 30 of these wonderful replica pistols, none of which are the more "entry level" or budget type airguns. I can honestly say there's not one that doesn't have some sort of issue going on with it. Some minor, some not. Whether it be a loose barrel on a Legends M712, a wobbly hammer on an earlier DW 357, a leaky magazine on a Sig P365, a 12 lb trigger pull on a Walther P38, a weak slide spring on a Umarex Makarov, etc..etc..etc. Point being, you can spend day and night fixing/improving/upgrading/modifying these guns, just in time before something else decides to let loose. I try to keep in mind what I paid, (usually in the $125 to $150 range), what the parts availability is (good luck with that), and just exactly what I want or expect out of the gun. Is accuracy my thing ? Collectability ? Just plain plinking ? I realize these are not real steel guns we're buying, but still want a gun to do what it's meant for, without any hassle every other time the trigger is pulled. Here's how I see it.......I'll fix it once, maybe twice, after that it becomes a wallhanger if it can't be returned or out of warranty. I won't let the $125 gun (with issues) take up too much of my time which is meant more for enjoyment, and shooting fun. That's just my opinion, whatever that's good for... lol.
@VipersVideos2 жыл бұрын
That's the fun and interesting part about this hobby. You get to decide how you enjoy it. I've found exactly what you're saying about each model/unit having some issue here or there, but I'm just the type to to enjoy fixing, upgrading, modding etc. I typically only gripe and/or complain vocally when there are outright misrepresented (functional and quality) specs, and of course gross poor quality manufacturing defects that cause performance or very noticeable aesthetics issues. I also like to share the info because in many cases I wished I'd have known, and I've found that others like to know certain things before investing in some models. In the end though, I do enjoy working on them to the degree of my abilities or guts to try something... As far as your opinion, my opinion, any and all the rest of the opinions goes, I say as always, 'to each his own'. Well actually I usually say YMMV, but I digress slightly... lol

Thanks for this video - I was most interesting. I recently purchased an M29, and my first excited reaction when examining it was a little dulled when I found the chamber a bit sloppy. I referred the problem back to my dealer and he seemed to think it was fairly common, and so long as it locked ok when cocked there wouldn't be a problem. None of the other reviewers seem to mention this little problem, which like you, I find a bit annoying, especially as the M29 is such a superb bit of kit.

Great video ! I've got the BB versions (3" & 6") of this gun and immediately swapped out the inner barrels for rifled Anschutz barrels, makes a helluva difference both to accuracy and power levels (fps). I hadn't thought about the cylinder lockup trick with the washer, as one of mine was fine but the other is a little loose so I'll give that a try (might as well do both though, lol). We've done the same with the grips over here in the UK, some of the guys have used modelling clay/plastercine to bulk out the grips and that works well to reduce the 'cheap' feel too. The DW715 and the S&W 629 grips are far better though, so much more solid. Great information though, thanks for the upload !
@VipersVideos Жыл бұрын
Yes, lot's of mod/upgrades needed for some of these to be a great pistol. I actually thought about modeling clay first but then figured I'd just use a little UV resin to snug up the fit.. Well that turned out to be the full inside after all. Next time I do this to grips it will be the clay! Thanks for the comment!

Great video. I've got the same wobbly cylinder on mine. Great idea with the epoxy, thanks. I didn't know that the ejection rod was supposed to be held in place once inside its cavity. I've already done the screw paint on the grip. But my grip is not squeaky at all. I've also got the Umarex Colt Peacemaker with the chromed cartridges and they are exactly the same as the brass colored ones. Thanks, very informative video 👍 I'm looking to buy the 6mm BB (airsoft) version anyway, so I guess I'll be getting a 6mm inner barrel with the full length (except the small section of fake .44 at the very front of course). I think the reason they are making the smaller .177 (4.5mm) barrels shorter is because there are so many models - 3", 6.5" and 8.3" and then all of these in 3 calibres - 6mm BB, 4.5mm BB and rifled for .177 palettes - so it's not practical to have 9 different barrels and they made 5-6 and are adding a 6mm piece for the rest of the length.

@@EbolaS007 Actually for a couple reasons. First is some Americans don't like to shoot real firearms and are airgun/pellet enthusiasts and really like to shoot only airguns. Also, many places to shoot real firearms have been closed down or are very expensive to shoot at and typically very crowded to get in. Now question doesn't the tubing of the cartridge add to the overall length of the barrel since it's just some more tubing like the barrel for which the pellet and or bb is going through?
@VipersVideos2 жыл бұрын
Seems like it, but there is that space between the front of the cartridge and the springy cone thingy (actual barrel starting point) that rests in the front of the cylinder which is an interruption to have the bb jump from one to the other. So, the cartridge tubing/inner body is actually to the bb, what a chamber/hole in the cylinder is to a firearm cartridge bullet.

I wonder if the 6,5'' with rifled barrel version will do same accuracy with some type of pellets and the silver Colt SAA cartridges, or maybe the ones that come with the pellet version. If the actual length barrel from this long 8 i 3/8" version is shorter than 6,5'' the result should be very similar? I know hard to say, the combinations of differet factors make the result difficult to predict.
@VipersVideos Жыл бұрын
With a fairly long rifled barrel like 6.5" and a good pellet match it would be a good bet it would be as accurate or better. But yeah, lot's of factors can affect that. Trial and error is best to achieve consistent good accuracy.

I got a loose barrel, it wobbles A LOT, any fixes for that?
@VipersVideos2 жыл бұрын
No fixes, but ideas a couple. - The actual barrel is a inside the outer barrel shroud. It would be held in place by clearance fit and springs. So either the clearance is too great and/or the springs are to loose or out of place. You'd have to take it apart and check. - The outer barrel shroud (only guessing as I never removed the barrel) and front of the frame would have male/female fitment with pins holding it together as one assembly. If the pins are only loose, then oversized pins might work. Possibly requiring drilling and reaming in barrel and frame to the pin press fit size. If its the parts (barrel shroud and frame) not fitting snugly at all, that would be like JB weld (or equivalent) time, but that's a risky thing and no guarantee of proper repair. - If it came this way, it would be best to return it to where you got it for replacement. Or, contact umarex for repair or warranty claim. Unless you are a really confident mechanically inclined or experienced hobbiest, I would not recommend trying to repair it yourself, unless you would be okay with possible damaging of it to the degree of not being reasonably repaired. And yes, I have wrecked a gun (one I wasn't concerned about) trying a risky repair. Lots of JB weld and glue after that. Again, not recommending but only sharing ideas.

In your opinion, Is the m29 better than the dw 716?
@VipersVideos2 жыл бұрын
My opinion can only be based on my particular units, not to mention what actually constitutes "better". If that makes sense. Also, I'll only base it on the DW 715 bb version as the M29 is a bb version. 1.) Visual/dimensional/aesthetics as replicas - Both are equal imo. Excellent looking metal replicas. 2.) Actual quality of build fit/function/tolerances - DW 715 (based on my exact units) is better due to being built tighter, solid crane/yoke/cylinder lockup, solid feeling hogue style rubber grips, etc. M29 was loose in crane/yoke cylinder lock up, grips were thin, creaky and loose fitting, etc. 3.) Accuracy- M29 was slightly better with bbs. Shooting pellets (I'm not recommending, but) through the M29 was nothing short of amazing accuracy with the supplied smooth bore barrel. The DW 715 accuracy was fine, but M29 just a bit better. Conclusion/opinion - If you want them for collecting replica air pistols, then which is better would of course be up to you. If you don't care about the replica value, but are interested in which appears to be more sturdy/ruggedly built, then I'd say the DW 715 is more solidly built. If you had to have the one that was even slightly more accurate, then I'd say the M29. So, it's not all that conclusive which in my opinion is better for someone else, but my opinion and experience with them in these categories may help you decide. As always YMMV, but I hope this helped answer your question.
