You are AWESOME! I am an older male, and to say I am somewhat worried about 'scaring' the students with my singing...just doesn't fit! Thank you very much for your help and examples! You sing great....hope I do not scare them off!

Love it! To all Vipkid Teachers and others teaching English to Chinese students...some English words sound like cuss words! BEWARE! "Cow, mud..." is a few of them. Don't force students to repeat (for example cow) students will say "moo" instead because they feel very awkward and uncomfortable especially when their parent is next to them. Just let it go if they won't say it. If not you, will offend the parent(s) and student (Some may not get offended). Learn Chinese culture and google KZbin videos on English words that sound like cuss words in Chinese (for example). Don't just teach the content...save yourself the embarrassment...know what is offensive in the Chinese culture. I wish I had the link to the video to share with you. This has not been my personal experience. This is wisdom/grief shared from other teachers who experienced this and even lost bookings over it.

thank you for all the tips. I thought something was wrong with the time lag so this is great advice! I have had numerous technical issues and actually had to tell my interviewer (who could not hear me) that I would reschedule to tonight. They sent me a test link so that helped

Thank you for this video. I am not musically inclined, so I struggle with the songs that are set to the tune of something else, especially the one set to Jingle Bells. I wish there was a CD of these.

Thanks for the video. A quick question. you mentioned the lag issue. I play guitar and would like to play along with our singing, but I am afraid that might not work with the lag or time delay. I would sing a line, then play and let them sing. Do you think this will work?
@LingLab5 жыл бұрын
I think it would work as far as the lag is concerned. Students complicate this because you never know what they will do. Sometimes I sing one line and the student just completes the whole song. You never know. In that case some accompanying chords might be nice even if the timing isnt perfect. I know teachers do use instruments so it's just a matter of finding what works best.

I love your videos!! Thanks for sharing! That time lag is a scary thought when talking about ECHO singing... So, I have a question. I'm a B & M Music Teacher and am getting ready to book my Mock 1. Am I allowed to play instruments with the songs when I get to that part of teaching ( ie guitar, baritone ukulele) to help provide melody and the awesome experience of the instruments?? Thanks so much! Victoria
@LingLab6 жыл бұрын
Yes, we have teachers who add instruments to their lessons. I think the baritone maybe not because you would not be able to sing ( I also can't play my flute) but the others would be fine as long as they don't take set up time or detract from the lyrics or lesson.

Hi, Hope! Thank you for your willingness to help! I have so many questions. First, being a bit of a Facebook illiterate, how can I message you? Then, how long is each class and how many classes do you typically teach? Is it seven days a week? I'm excited about the prospect of teaching again.

Are all of these songs sung at one point or another? I am quite familiar with most but not with others. Will I have to sing them or do I get to chose?
@LingLab6 жыл бұрын
Most of them appear in lessons time to time but I usually ask upper level kids if they like to sing. If not, we don't. For younger kids, I do choose to sing the songs. VIPKID doesn't have a rule on this.

This "embrace the lag" thing, is it a leftover from the old days when everythng was on satellite? There used to be a lag of about half a second because of the distance up and down to geosynchronous orbit. If so, please note that everything is now on undersea fiber or close-in non-geosynchronous satellites, so that old lag has vanished. Or is she talking about the normal "OK, is it our turn now?" lag as the kids synch with each other? If so, then this problem is a subset of the more general "Pay attention to the kids" set of skills.

Hi, I've watched many VIP videos and I can't help but notice everyone is what I'd call young looking....you too. :) Is this something they are looking for? Youth? I'm in my early 50's and worry this will count me out. I'm sure they would NEVER say this outright but these days anyone over 40 is generally considered old in the professional world. Thoughts? Please be honest. Thank you, MW

I do not get a lag at all when I'm teaching with VIPKID. I use ethernet wired connection, not wi-fi when I am teaching and there are no lag problems. When I watch the playback, there IS a lag for some reason. But during the actual teaching, I have not experienced a lag. The student answers me right after I ask the question. It's great!
