I actually was with another company that we could have up to 6 kids in 1 class with an average of 2-4 kids called Golden Voice English. I left and went to VIPKID and love it. I tripled my income in 1 month, and I love love love the 1 on 1. Kids learn so much more. Chinese kids spend all day in class with 30 plus other students so getting 1 on 1 for them is the best possible option. When you teach more than 1 kid they check out when the other kids are talking. Also when you have 4 kids plus teacher that cuts down the talk time for each student to only around 5 minutes per student.
@DCVocabulary6 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it's best not to correct the student....especially beginners. Yes I know this sounds counterintuitive; However, think about how a child learns their first language. Does the parent correct the child for every mistake he or she makes? No. The child will not want to speak around the parent. Instead it's best to correct to take note of some of their mistakes and then incorporate these mitakes in the following lesson. Of course this all depends on the level of the student and their (his or her) confidence level.
@shannonguynn37915 жыл бұрын
I agree! I have always struggled with this but tend to correct even when I don't think it necessary as the parent expects it and will give poor feedback if I don't.. :(
@nathanarquiette4305 жыл бұрын
Actually, correcting is very important but it's how you do it. You don't say "no it's this". If a child says. "I seed the bird fly" You respond "Oh you saw the bird fly?" Your correcting them passively and they will likely respond the correct way without even thinking about it.
@thecampercook5 жыл бұрын
@@nathanarquiette430 Exactly. I'm a parent of three children. They started reading around age four and I believe it's because I corrected them very much as you've explained. "I seed the bird fly." "Oh, yeah! I see the bird fly, too!"
@aldoranematzada82144 жыл бұрын
No. You must correct errors accordingly. Most of these student live in thier native countries and do not practice much outside the classroom. If they are learning a language incorrectly, it will easily become habits hard to break in the future. Whereas with a native language, your obviously being exposed to fluent speakers daily.
@DCVocabulary4 жыл бұрын
Aldora LaPlume It does depend on the geographic. I used that example to make a point. Regardless of where the student lives, it’s better to not correct them on the spot. Rather it is best to keep track of the habitual errors then implement the next lesson accordingly. Or use self correct methods.

I agree with you about ME being so much more fun and interesting to teach. VIP feels like work and ME feels like work disguised as play. Thanks for the Screenshot idea. I got a message that my FB were too generic but idk what they expect when you have to be so engaged and energetic you can't look down to take notes. I don't even remember half the students let alone tailored feedback. This will hopefully help me come up with a little something personalized for each student.

Thanks for he update Hope! All I have left for ME is the trial class - finished the interview and the demos. The curriculum takes a second to get used to - and I have found myself trying to extend and add too much- as sometimes it seems like it is so little, however I think going through it with four students will make the difference lol. I do like the lessons so far and the format - they seem way more fun and interactive. I’ve been with VIPKID for 1.5 years now and like you I’m worried about missing my regulars! So yeah, your update was really helpful and came at a great time for me!

I'm so happy to see this update. Upon reading some negative reviews from others, I wasn't sure what do. (I work for VIPKid for more then a year now, have great feedback, but also have had good luck with being adaptable as a personality) I will honestly say that I have both regulars whom are advanced, that I LOVE, but then there are regulars, or somewhat regulars, whom may be sweet kids, but not very great students, so I feel bad about cringing sometimes. So I have mixed feelings about teaching 4 kids, most likely kids that I've never seen before. On the one hand, I would miss not having that special rapport with those kids who really like me, and laugh at my corny jokes, etc. I would miss them. Ideally, for me, with Magic Ears (versus VIPKid), I would still have regulars, but have the flexibility you've talked about with ME.

What's interesting is that I use "incidental language" all the time with VIPKID. The class is more fun that way. "Are you ready?!" "Leeeeetttttsssss Goooooo!". The Kids love it. However not having to think of a new way to impress them is nice. At this point I'm like "Look kids, I know you, you know me that's it." lol

I agree. To me a good teacher is one that pays attention to their students needs. If your student is ready for some incidental language use it. It will help sound more like a native speaker. but if they are not ready don't use it. It's all about being flexible.

They do not acknowledge, take accountability for, or attempt to solve technical glitches on their platform. I have a Master’s in Teaching English and over seven years of experience. I passed my demo and one on one training easily. The ONLY thing I was told to improve on for the trial class was my background. My trial class started, and the platform began freezing as soon as I gave my first trophy. I tried pushing restart; it did not help. I tried contacting my success manager; they did not get back to me until long after my trial class was over. When my success manager got back to me, he refused to even acknowledge there was a technical problem. I also have a computer that meets all required specifications, and my computer was plugged into the modem with an ethernet cord.

I was going to apply with Magic Ears but when I ran their software through virustotal.com it said they had a trojan horse in it. There are two other platforms that have a trojan, so I'm not surprised. Has anyone's computer been affected or is this a false positive?

I have not heard of anyone having any problems!

Yes!!!!! My computers hard drive completely failed after downloading their platform!! I had to get a brand new computer. What a joke! I will not be working with ME! No thanks, I'll pass!! I'm sticking to the other companies I already teach for. No need to download anything with them.

Can always use VirtualBox and set up a Virtual Machine to run the software safely, in the case that one wants to ignore such a warning.

Hi I applied more than 5 ESL teaching companies so far. I am not a native English speaker. But I have a bachelor's degree in English and Tesol certificate. Do you think I can find a job finally?

Not for VIPKID or Magic Ears, but yes, there are companies out there. Look at www.teacheslonlineanywhere.com

I'm thinking of starting with ME. I tested my PC for their speed requirements and I have those covered, however, our internet is wireless. Would this be OK for them since the speed requirement is met?
@LingLab5 жыл бұрын
The answer from the company would be that you have to have ethernet and trainers have been known to say they can tell when you don't, even if the speed is fine. I'll leave that to you to try if you think you want to and let the team give you feedback or not. I don't know if this helps.

I applied with Magic Ears almost a week ago but have not received a response. Is there a specific amount of time before I receive an answer from them?

Hello! I just used your referral link. Thanks for the great info. I was just hired by VIP KID who said all I needed to do was a certification by email, but in the Portal they are now mandating 10 hours of their TESOL training before I can move forward. I scored high, so I am discouraged and opening my mind to another company. The Magic Ears application is requiring at Skype ID? I was surprised by this. I don't have Skype. Is there any way to move forward in another way?

First let's talk about your VIPKID situation. If you've already been hired by them, you've already done TONS of work because their application process is so intense . I'd hate for you to not finish it out after all that. I can tell you that ALL of us teachers have the TESOL course waiting in our portals, but it is optional. They have told us they will not and do not require it. Would you mind screenshotting what you see and also forwarding to me your latest emails from VK? I'll see if I can help figure this out. Now, about Magic Ears--I LOVE working for them and would LOVE for you to get hired by them too if you like! Skype is the way they do their quick tech-support both during the application process and after you get hired. It is required. If you think about it, since they are in China, calling us on the phone would be difficult and email too slow if we had an immediate technical need. So we do use skype for that immediate type of communication. You can get a skype account free online! Please do email me with the screenshots of your VK portal and your last emails! My email is therealhopewilliams@gmail.com
