I naturally teach the Magic Ears way. I don't teach the VipKid way. I find VipKid boring.

You totally portrayed how I feel. This is the worst part about VipKid. I consider it to be even worse than the paycuts. I have had a few students like that, who suddenly disappeared and who I love. One student disappeared for almost year and she was my favorite. She is now back and booking regularly again. My consolation about heartbreaker students is that they may come back, or I will get new students and some of them will bond with me in the future.

They are just trying to create a product of excitement and energy, not learning or education. I've heard horror stories about how bleak and unemotional the state-run TV is in China and people are crazy for some non-political excitement on a supposed education platform. I teach 1st grade as my full-time job and you say "I don't bring the excitement". BTW, how many real classes have you ever taught? Whenever their dirt feedback comes my way you know what I think to myself? Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers) would be fired by Magic Ears for lack of enthusiasm. If you ever think Magic Ears is being hard on you remember, they would fire Mr. Rogers for speaking in a calm voice. Do you want to teach a class of 5-6 year olds that THEY say Mr. Rogers would not be fit to teach?

I don't recommend. Magic Ears hires based on how much one can smile regardless of the quality of education. There is no company-employee relationship and they don't give room for teacher-student relationships. I was very disappointed in them.

I can’t understand how anyone could spend a dime of their own $ when you might make $20/hour if you’re lucky. I’m a full time public school teacher at a very large school district and at this point in my career I’m making over $60/hour. So making $7/ 25 minutes at some companies is incomprehensible to me!!! It seems like a lot more work then “regular” school/classes to boot.

I really like your background. Where did you get it? Don’t forget no good deed goes unpunished and being nice usually doesn’t payoff.

Hey Hope! I taught for 3+ years at iTutor, 6 hours a day with kiddos and occasional adult classes. Had a bunch of regulars, mostly great kids, but there is limited fun in their platform. I am ready for a new adventure and am thinking Magic Ears sounds like "Magic" to me! I have a 4 year degree, 60 hour and 120 hour TEFL and TESOL Certifications. I also was the founder of our local Montessori school. Basically, I am a wild and crazy ESL Teacher looking for a new nest, have fun and actually communicate with support and "Magically get an answer!" I am excited. Please email me @ [email protected] My website is wildwingsway4esl.com/ Hope to snatch a mentor for the process and the future... fingers crossed, if not you, perhaps you can recommend. I just had an interview with Magic Ears this past week. I was shocked to see my interviewer was sitting in a very busy cafe almost in the dark. I could not see her face clearly. As I began my demo, people in the cafe started mocking me by repeating what I was saying. They were saying "snow," snowy!" and laughing. I simply could not believe the obvious lack of profressionalism I was enduring. I was really put off by this and feel I could not work for a company like this. I wrote to them as well and have not heard back. Furhtermore, I did not receive any results. When I go to the page it is prompting me to sign up for a demo. I was excited to work at Magic Ears but I am no longer interested. Is this considered normal for an interview with this company?

Hi Hope, thank you for the video! I am working with 5 siblings from age 5 to 14. They know lot's of English words but can't say a sentence, the children are very mature, I wanted to know how you would go about this when dealing with mature/older children?

Correcting students all the time instills fear in trying. It's unfortunate that they don't understand that.
