THANKS! Your video on this from 7 yrs ago gave me more questions than answers, but this one finally dumbs it down enough and explains it well for me. Muchos gracias.

I’m kinda new to watching football. So what do those receivers that are covered up on the line of scrimmage do? Are they there just to block? Can’t the defense just ignore them completely? Also, how far off the line of scrimmage do the other receivers need to be? Btw, this was such an awesome and effective video. Helped me out a lot. 👏

I thought that in college (and maybe high school?) an offensive lineman (with a certain jersey number range) is always ineligible even if he is the end man on the line of scrimmage. You can't just report the jersey number of the O lineman as you can in the NFL

What’s the interactive software program you are using to explain all this? Thanks again!

so if you ran a jumbo set wouldn't that be covering up?
@thekoreanzebra2 ай бұрын
Love the video but we need to differentiate NFL from all other levels. Example. No reporting in HS and there is no 7 on the line rule. It’s only 5 and by number. No max than 4 in the backfield. Eligibility is declared by number but the covered up rule is the same.

What if Y is on the LOS and Z is not
@bradcollard526215 күн бұрын
Then Y is uncovered and eligible by rule. Z is also eligible since the plwer is in the backfield. In the end, you need to have 7 on the LOS and 4 in the backfield. For a player to be eligible, they must not be covered on the LOS

Yes I am a Offical i’m like the NFL there’s no reporting in because they just cannot run a pattern or catch a pass if they are a certain 50 -79.

i want to know the history of this rule. what happened to cause this to exist?

I tell my players to think of the 7 on the line as a sandwich, the Ends are bread & only the bread can go out, meat cheese, & mayo can’t. It doesn’t matter if the sandwich is the width of the field, staggered in a contrarian way, or shoulder to shoulder, the rule still applies. We can always have more than 7 but never less. The others that are more than a yard back are all eligible. I’ve coached from 2nd grade to high school & they all get it. My 2nd grade team lined up vs a swinging gate in a second because they knew the gaps & eligibility rule. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZylaK2cl7tkaJIsi=yFvbQXqPTlbI6Mml
