The girl with the blue eye hack, should also consider that in her example picture of her eyes "popping" she's standing in blue water with a bright blue sky above her, which will make her blue eyes reflect much more blue than usual. At least I know my eyes, and my cats blue eyes, are frightingly blue when we're looking at a blue summer sky :D

Does anyone know the best color to use when you have all eye colors in your iris? My eyes are very ugly, they look like greeny grayish mud with the subtlest yellowy sunburst around the pupil. They'd be so cool if there was a definable color to any part of my iris. It's like Mendel forgot to tell us, sometimes you just get a weird new ugly eye color....

Yes using color theory is a basic makeup technique, the problem is most people in the U.S. don’t know color theory unless they’ve taken makeup or art classes and even though color theory is taught here in the U.S. it’s taught quickly at a young age so most people forget it unless they take more in depth classes. I know it because I’m an artist but most people I know don’t know it because they aren’t artists. If it isn’t their passion or doesn’t have to do with their job it’s gone, it left their brains a long time ago.
@LadyLocket Жыл бұрын
When comparing celebrity photos or models' make-up looks, you need to remember that often the make-up you see is usually only expected to last for the length of a shoot or catwalk with constant touch-ups. The techniques used aren't designed to last a full day with minimal fuss and are often still edited and filtered after. They also have access to top dermatologists and skin care products, so their skin is usually a far better base than us ordinary folk.

You’re right about the color wheel being basic makeup knowledge (and just general art knowledge). In fact, I think it was Almay that had a makeup line based on it about 10-ish years ago. I know because I used to buy it for green eyes and the colors were always purple. 😆 Might still exist.

3:55 honestly in high school they don’t dice much I to color theory so learning color theory via fashion (like I did with color theory and composition) or makeup is really handy cuz not only do you get some understanding of it but you can also know how to apply it irl
@shereadsmysteries Жыл бұрын
I think there was a bigger emphasis on color wheel makeup in the early 2000s when it was about accentuating and less about artistry. We didn’t really have great quality colorful palettes back then, and I feel like because of that it was, “oh you have brown eyes? Orangey brown shadow for you!” Now with all the high quality colorful palettes we have, I feel like more and more people want to wear whatever colors they want to show off their makeup skills. I think maybe some of the “purple for brown eyes, brown for blue eyes” color theories have fallen off of being super commonly spouted because of this. But just a theory!
@QueenSoledad Жыл бұрын
There is also such a difference between doing your makeup for real life from an editorial look. You don't have to worry about how long the makeup will last if you're on set and the artist is there the whole time to touch up, so in that setting it makes much more sense to use less powder.

3:56 gotta admit that I paused at the water pic to see her eyes, and yes the blue was more noticeable… If your eyes are red from the salt water that’ll automatically ‘enhance’ any color by contrast. The prettiest pair of blue eyes I ever saw was on a friend of mine from school. His eyes were so blue. It was hard to believe they were actually real. The sad part is that the whites of his eyes were never really white, they were usually kind of pinkish. Just a matter of how he was born. That all being said, using the color wheel to good effect is a wonderful skill to have!

I've had a Journey learning to do my contour 😂 My skintone ranges from cool or cool neutral (winter) to warm neutral (when I go to the beach in summer). I'm also quite pale, even with a tan. Finding contour products when I got into makeup was frustrating and I eventually stopped because everything ranged from muddy to almost purple. Nothing read as shadow on my skin, ever. Now I use eyeshadow, and mix a color from; warm grey, true grey, light beige, warm brown, and a cool brown. I mix on my hand and compare it to the shadow under my jaw. I sometimes mix it a few shades darker than I need and gently go over it with whatever powder foundation is left on my brush or powder puff. I can easily control how natural it looks, which can be important for a goth who wants it to *actually* show up at clubs 😂

@standdownrobots_ihaveoldglory Жыл бұрын
And us cis people whose faces are androgynous could use the help too! Without makeup or hair cues, my face is very hard to ID by gender lol. I do have some great techniques of my own, as someone who gets misgendered a surprising amount (and usually I'm looking very stereotypically femme when it happens.) I lean a bit enby esp in my personal style, but def consider myself cis, and there's a lot of us who get mistaken for trans people or a gender that we are not. I certainly do not mind being mistaken for a trans person, typically trans people are pretty damn cool and very intellectual & self aware, but I would love to play more with both masc and fem looks, and to be more solidly feminine when that's important to me.

That's an interesting comment about deep eyeshadows on light blue eyes As a person with blue eyes (but not grey or light blue. More like medium or dark blue) I do find that my favourite color I've used around them so far is a deep teal which almost matches my eyes When I told my mum most people say to use browny-oranges on blue eyes she said "You'd think blue makeup would pick out the blue more" (bc she thought, and many people have thought in the past, that matching the colors would intensify your eye color) Ultimately whatever your eye color I guess it might be a good idea to just experiment lol It's all about what the person wearing the makeup actually likes on themselves!

Random, but Robert, as I am applying my laura Gellar treat n go lip oil, I realize that it is *your perfect lippie*. It looks exactly like the one you are wearing, it's got that shimmer that somehow diffuses and just looks light and plumpy not glittery or magnifying lines (it blurs them). Finish line shade is a true nude with a verrrrrry subtle nars orgasm colored shimmer, but it is soooo subtle in terms of color & particle size, but the shine is WOW. And the treatment oil formula is actually effective. No grit in the goo either, its so comfy and it is an oil not a thick goop, and you only need a tiny bit, it lasts forever. Just an fyi, if youre ever looking, but I don't think they sold well lol, I got mine for $6 from ipsy store. Haha had to share, I was just so pleasantly surprised to be lip twins today. I usually wear it at home but seeing how gorgeous and natural your lips look onscreen, I may be popping it in my purse more (I use spf lippies on word days for the commute, but I could easily use regular ones indoors once I get there). Omg I just wrote a book about my lip gloss. 😂 blame it on that good legal THC...

I have basic knowledge of color wheel but I kinda thought that because my eyes are dark hazel with dark kelp green color on the outside and dark gold on the inside, that I could just go with pinks and reds since my eyes are mostly a shade of green. I do think bright pinks work too,but looking at a more detailed color wheel like Robert showed purple is the right color for my green parts and if I am trying to highlight the gold side of my eye color I could play with blues. I do think it is basic knowlegde if you have makeup education back ground but mine come from fashion and hair so the colors in those wheels weren´t as in depth or we focused on different parts/colors
